Ryan Mallett is doomed

As of right now, Hoyer is a massive upgrade over Mallet.

We don't know this but we do know that Mallet has more physical tools to play in the league. Whether or not he can harness and utilize them is to be determined.

So far, Mallett has participated in a bunch of practices and played one half of preseason football against the scrubeenies from a 90 man roster. There is not yet any film of him playing against NFL caliber talent and he has yet to compete against the big boys armed with a game plan specifically designed to exploit his own weaknesses and combat the NE offense.

Mallett has obvious skill as well as the advantage of both superior coaching and the presence of Tom Brady. There's lots of reason to be both encouraged and hopeful. But Brian Hoyer is not going to be traded anytime soon. And Ryan Mallett has a long way to go to prove that he is ready for prime time.

Are you one of those knuckleheads who persists in believing a Daunte Culpepper or some JAG QB with 3-4 years of experience failing to progress as someone else's starter could come in here and run this offense better than any backup Bill trusted as his #2 from the time he drafted him?? Hoyer has been learning how to run it for over two years now after running off the last two poor shmucks who even aspired to ever backup Brady...

I am not sold on Hoyer - I don't see a 6'2" averaged arm QB being any more than a backup here. I think his advantage is his sharp football mind but is he tall enough to be a pocket passer? If we lost Brady for the year does Hoyer have the physical tools to thwart game plans.

Kinda hard to argue any points about events that may or may not happen 3 years from now.

For now, I am content to watch Brady play and have the back-ups warm the bench. Maybe there will come a day when Brady is challenged for the starter's role. The team would still have to be very good for Brady to lose out.

Who knows, maybe football is less of thing to Brady in 3 years...hard to imagine, but maybe there are other opportunities in his future life he's interested in pursuing. Maybe Brady and BB walk off the field together at the same time. Maybe....who care about maybe

Let's just get the next few weeks over and get the season started.

This height thing is sooooo overblown. The QB of the SB champion Green Bay Packer is 6'2. The name most commonly thrown around for league MVP last season was Michael Vick, he's 6'0. Prior to that Drew Brees was the SB MVP, he's 6'0.

How many throws have you seen Hoyer make where it was obvious that his arm strength was limiting the offense?

I dont know about you but I'd take Hoyer any day of the week over 6'6 rifle-armed Joe Flacco. TFB is no physical speciman, in fact he's downright ordinary as far as his physical ability goes, it's his mind which makes him so deadly.

Hoyer seems to have a very good command of one of the more complicated offensive schemes in the league, if a GM had any brains he'd see Hoyer as a very solid option and a FAR better risk than a college kid going into the draft.

We have our future QB, he just also happens to be our past and present QB...and your right that Bill would not leave a bitter taste in the Franchise's mouth by giving him up for a prospect... Your problem is nothing is of consequence to you and you're projecting that mindset onto rational adults.

My first thought was "he's more mobile than advertised". That wasn't a play we're used to seeing around here.

I'll never understand why his mobility was so underplayed. I mean sure he's not going to outrun anyone but its like they didnt watch his game film on the run.

I was and am still liking the Mallett pick. I liked the moxy the kid showed and the fact he's come in with a chip on his shoulder, much like Brady did.

That being said, as others have pointed out, it's only about a half of a game he's played. Let's wait until next TC to see what happens. If the Pats trade Hoyer next year, then we'll know that Mallett is the next guy to have earned the right to be the man behind Brady. Every one of us will still be praying that Mallett never has to see the field unless its in "garbage" time or a "garbage" game to end the season.

But let's stop acting like Brady is an interception or two away from being benched. That's just not happening.

regarding HEIGHT. Look @ Doug Flutie. Ppl were reluctant to think much of him b/c of his height and he goes to the CFL and does really well a great career. My point is teams passed on him b/c of the height issue. I wonder how good he may have been in the NFL if he was given a chance early on?

Flutie was pretty much his own OC when he was in Canada, he knew his strengths and weaknesses and adjusted his game to suit that, IF you gave him that flexibility I think he would have done great, I dont think he'd do as well an offense built for a taller statue like TFB.
