Re: Bargain Hunting?

I agree with bringing in Roth or another body to compete for a 3-4 OLB or 4-3 DE position. Looking at the current depth chart I see, Jermaine C, Markell Carter, Rob Nin, Dane Fletcher and Marques Murell os our OLBs.

Yep, that is it. You can add Moore as well, but you are right, it is a totally unimpressive unit devoid of any real talent.

Re: Stylez G. White anyone?

I can't take a guy named Styles G. White seriously. Name reminds me too much of that crappy old wrestler, Coco B. Ware

Re: Stylez G. White anyone?

What's the success rate of guys with awesome names?

Re: Bargain Hunting?

Lofa Tatupu on a one year deal?

Low risk, not a lot of money. See what he still has left in the tank. A few years ago he was one of the better playmakers in the game at LB and he's always been lauded for his smarts/football intellect/being the QB of the defense/diagnosing formations and plays.

Could definitely help regardless of if we played 4-3 or 3-4 IMO. If he's fully healthy, he's probably an upgrade over everyone besides Mayo. The only other LB I could see developing into a better player than him is maybe Spikes.

Craphonso Thorpe and Stryker Sulak never went anywhere, but Earthwind Moreland is a legend.

Re: Stylez G. White anyone?

A name I'm suprised I haven't heard is Chris Kelsay. He started a bunch of games has played in the 3-4 and 4-3. I like to see him, Roth or White.

Re: Bargain Hunting?

I'm all for Ellis. I suspect he could be a pretty decent strong side DE in a 4-3, and he's close to as proven as it gets in the 3-4. Put him next to Haynesworth and Wilfork, and see what happens.

I don't know if Lofa is a bargain, or would even consider a one year deal. Wasn't he released because they didn't offer him enough money? He might get desperate, but I think over teams have a bigger need at MLB than we do.

Bryant McKinnie

Bryant McKinnie was released.Any interest?I am surprised. You can never have enough protection for Brady.

i would not mind bringing him in for vet minimum if possible.

... just keep him away from the combination of strippers and party yachts.

Re: Bryant McKinnie

As mentioned above, the yachts, and strip clubs.
Oh and he showed up fat and out of shape... and there's an article I haven't read about him being urged by Venus Williams to get in shape.

Can the guy play football? Yes.
But not on this team.

Re: Bargain Hunting?

What's the story with Mark Anderson? He made a big impact as a rookie but seems to have done nothing since.

I thought Mark Anderson resigned with the Texans

Re: Bryant McKinnie

He just got displaced by Charlie Johnson in Minnesota, so I'm going to go out on a limb and say that he's some combination of out of shape and done

Re: Bryant McKinnie

Figured, as is with any cut player, that some would wonder if McKinnie is worth a shot.

A big, fat no.

Light and Vollmer starting, with Solder waiting, we're golden.

The Bears are interested.

Re: Bargain Hunting?

I would absolutely love to sign LeRon McLain to give our offensive backfield a real dose
of power & attitude. With him next to Brady, we could run Law & Order on 3rd/4...
and make the 1st down.

If Bill were truly serious about returning to smashmouth football, this move (instead of grossly over-drafting Ridley in the 3rd round) would've been made already.

The TEs can do everything that a FB can do, and won't complain about not carrying the ball enough.

Vareen Ridley Woody BJGE faulk morris

no thanks

Re: Bryant McKinnie

Hell to the Nooo. I watched Peppers(who we handled decently) destroy him and his backup.

I believe Lofa was released because he did not want to take a paycut, so both sides agreed to part ways. His value is lower than it ever has been in his career. Some people starting to question his healthy and his ability.

Just throwing it out there, but maybe he'd be interested in a deal like Bodden to come here and prove he can still be a difference maker. He has always "screamed" Patriot material to me. He played HS ball in Mass and his father was a Patriot.

We'll have to see what kind of market develops for him. I can't see him really getting a big time deal at this point.

I'd love to see McClain here too, but the backfield is pretty full at the moment.

However, I really don't know why Morris was signed, and as much as I absolutely LOVE Kevin Faulk, how much does he realistically have left in the tank?

I think the Pats could benefit from a guy that can block and play FB, open up some holes as a lead blocker for the RB's, as well as pound it between the tackles 5-10 times per game. McClain also brings some of that edge/nastiness/chip on the shoulder type of style to the backfield. He's a guy that runs angry and can pick up the tough yards.

But Bill has not carried a FB for a few years. So doesn't seem like a realistic possibility.
