Pats Trade for Haynesworth (merged)

Great low risk move in my opinion. A 5th rounder will have a hard time making this team due to how young and talented NEP's are. Other teams fans will be hoping he is a cancer and blows up our locker room. What they don't realize is - that if Haynesworth doesn't tow the company line, then he will be gone before you can say, "call the moving company". No season long soap opera drama like what unfolded in DC.

The only real question I have is - how long will it take him to pass the conditioning test? Guess that also signals that Gerrald Warren is unlikely to be resigned. Though probably he would be kept on shadow 'speed dial' roster.

WOW I was off net yesterday so wow

all upside or a quick cut

1. Assume BB spoke with him and AH can be turned around by the pats way
2. he is in shape
3. realizes it is his last chance
4. did bb know this at draft time?? Stroud and AH easy covers any draft pick
5. 4-3 Strong up front pass rush and strong in secondary
Mayo cleans up teh mess and cunningham and rest mature

BB playing the cards dealt to him or picking the cards then playing!!!!!

I hope it works it would be sublime!!!!!

I gotta admit that I, too, was blindsided by this. I was doing a bunch of work early this morning, decided to surf over to the Herald to see what's up Pats-wise. I had just poured a cup of hot joe, and fortunately sat it down before I saw the headline.

WTF? Well, I certainly am wide-awake now, and the more I ponder it, the more I am liking this trade. As others have said, there really is no downside here. If he plays, we're in like Flynt. If he reverts to being a headcase, or his trial goes bad, etc, then he's outta here and we're no worse off.

Yes indeed. The sun is shining, the coffee tastes great, the birds are chirping outside my window, and Offensive Coordinators and Head Coaches all over the league are all rewriting game plans as we speak. :rocker:

I'm guessing Haynesworth is ring shopping. If that is the case, he might be less of a problem.

I wake up to this!!!! One thing I want to say, reminds me so much of the Moss trade:

Albert Haynesworth is 30, if he can wake up and play like he did in Tennessee,

Wilfork and Haynesworth on the same line

Also, when Haynesworth was in Tenn, he was even better than Wilfork, please revert to old you headcase!

I think everybody is missing the real issue Haynesworth had with the 3-4, he didn't want to play on the nose. He didn't think it utilized his talents as a run stopper and pass rusher. In NE, he will play on the end in the base defense, and probably play in the situational 4-3 formations that Belichick like to put into the game plan.

My guess is that, assuming he makes the team, he starts and is on the field for at least 50% of the plays.

This is such a Belichick type move, low risk/high reward type of thing. If he plays the Pats get one of the best defensive linemen in the game for a 2013 fifth round pick, if he turns into a dog they cut him and nothing is lost except the pick they traded for him and the cap room he uses up this year.

This is a good gamble, it should work at least for this year. Haynesworth need to rehab his image, and as long as he buys into the program here in NE, he will be put into a position where he can succeed. He should be pretty motivated to be a good soldier for at least this year, he probably knows that his contract makes him a one year experiment in NE. He is does his job and doesn't cause any trouble, he could be renegotiated. If be proves that being an ********* is in his DNA and flames out, nobody will touch him except the dregs of the NFL. I'll bet a nickle that he has a very good year this year.

Exactly. Some people are assuming that Albert is a D-Bag and a lost cause. Organizationally and and coaching-wise NE >>> the Washington Redskins. I'm sure Albert will be motivated not only by WINNING for a change, but also to rehab his image, as you said. Very little chance that he "pulls a Haynesworth" on BB and quits--I think the opposite will occur.

I love this move. It might revive the "Is Brace a Bust?" threads as well. :bricks:

Concur. You know who else is not having a good morning? Peyton Manning. You gotta know that with that neck trouble, and having a so-so O-line is going to be making him a tad bit uncomfortable with all this.

Hey Gweed usually the saying is we are in like Flynn but now that you are wide awake
I am sure you are referring to Larry Flynt of Hustler mag. Good One

Yeah. Eyes brain & fingers all trying to process this story.

Great move by Lord Bill.
Depth at LB is the only thing left to address at this point. How can this not be a good thing if Vince or Warren goes down? If that ever happens, the move gets real interesting as AH is forces to play more in the 3-4.
We have this guy for 2 years max.

Not quite a ham sandwich...

Oh there are tears in the Wheaties today for sure.

I see a lot of Manning Face in our future.

I honestly thought this was another joke thread until i saw the number of replies. I honestly think us as fans have to treat this exactly like the randy moss trade. If you thought BB was a genius for that then you should have the same opinion about this. Look Haynesworth may very well be shipped out 4 weeks into the season... but all we lose then is a 2013 5th. The upside is the RDE spot we have being trying to fill since seymour being solidified and the max upside is one of the most dominant d lines in the NFL with Warren, Wilfork, Haynesworth.

Personally i am extatic about this trade and i really hope he goes the way of Dillon, Moss and Rodney Harrison. People who were given up on who got their 2nd chance in NE.

Doesn't this just make the pessamism of the last few days of "when are the pats going to have interest in someone" look silly.

A 3-4 line of the following:

RDE: Haynesworth
NT: Wilfork
LDR: Ty Warren

IF Haynesworth plays to his potential, it upgrades, not only the D-line, but the LB position as well. Why? Because the opposing O-lines will have to Double Team Wilfork and Haynesworth. This leaves the OLBs to beat a TE or a RB. And on the inside rush, Spikes and Mayo should be able to get through relatively easily in the holes created by the O-lines Double teams.

As others have mentioned, this is a low risk, High reward type of move. And if anyone can get Haynesworth into the right frame of mind it's Belichick and Kraft.

It's a big IF, like Moss was an IF, but if Haynesworth plays like he did in Tennessee, do you see the pass rush solved? I do.

Have to agree - low risk and potentially high reward. I bet Vince is smiling this morning, with Ty back and AH on his right can you imagine the damage they can do? There is a chance that AH may not grasp this opportunity, but if he returns to his Titans form, watch out.

I also like the under the radar activity, the Jets just can"t do anything quietly and their hubris is never ending. The Patriots are their antithesis which can be hard on the fans as silence and perceived inaction is frustrating - however when the Patriots do something it is so much more satisfying.

Floyd Reese must have been a broker behind the scenes.

Hence the reason that the IF was in bold and a larger size..
