235 Years and 2 days ago ~ on July 2nd, 1776 ~ 12 Colonies ~ not 13 ~ voted to Declare a War of Independence against the most powerfull State in the World, announcing it two days later, on July 4th, 1776.

A native of New England, home of the greatest Patriots of the Greatest War of Independence.

And it sure as hell doesn't apply to anyone affiliated with New York...

...The only one of the 13 Colonies that did NOT vote for Independence, that historic day!!

I hope I'm not coming across as an Hater.

My point is not to bag on New York, but to celebrate New England's astonishing heritage.

Independence Day means a lot to every true American, including the descendants of the courageous foot soldiers of New York who fought and died in that Great War.

But it means far more to New England, and to its Yankee Patriots, even though most have forgotten what that means. :rocker:

In fact, the original Yankees refereed to the entire Northeast, New England AND New York. Latter the term was expanded to refer to all of the North in the Civil war and by World War I meant the entire of the US.

I can see that any further pursuit of this subject with y'all is just gonna be a waste of my time. I suggest you crack open an Encyclopedia and educate yourselves: There are several theories ~ but only theories ~ about whither the term originated, one of which includes New York, which is manifestly false, as the term for those folks is "KnickerBocker"...And in any case, all that is KNOWN is that by the time the term "Yankee" became common, it referred to the English speaking folks of New England EXCLUSIVELY.

And it has only spread by association, since the days we YANKEES led the nation to Freedom.

Wow, I was going to let your OP go since I thought it was just an excess of regional pride on our Independence Day, which I certainly can understand. I lived in New England for 17 years and treasure every moment of it.

But, saying that Independence day means "more to New England" than the rest of the country?

Nope.

That's the very kind of sectarianism against which our Founding Fathers from across the Eastern Seaboard, Mid Atlantic and South of a rapidly growing continent were fighting.

I grew up in Pennsylvania, trace my ancestors in this country to the days of the Revolutionary War, am the great grandson of a Union Army warrior at Gettysburg and the son and nephew of men who served, fought and were wounded in Europe while fighting for the Red, White and Blue during the Second World War.

Nope, Independence Day does NOT mean "more to New England" than it does elsewhere in this great land, right down to its newest citizen or immigrant.

While your patriotism is noble, the particular sentiment expressed is misplaced.
