Your thoughts on Ryan Mallett

I'm stunned but fascinated.

A player so personally troubled that the Bengals passed on him seems, on the face of it, an anti-Patriot pick. But...the Bengals really couldn't take him, could they?

That right there should indicate that Mallet is OK.

The Bengals are the ***clowns of the NFL.

Their is a reason every team in the league passed on him, so their are risks associated.

Agreed, there is a reason that every team passed on him BUT I'm certain that reason wasn't his ability. If the Patriots can prove he has a better character than reported, then they have themselves a winning lottery ticket waiting to be cashed.

Another thing I like...

If this kid really is a "football guy", then he should have a major chip on his shoulder after nearly every team passed on him. Players with chips on shoulders are sometimes better than the ones that feel entitled.

was the the report...smoking pot......hmmmm that story sounds familiar ....how that work out for us :)

another michigan kid

Mallett had to go to a team that DIDN'T need a QB. This way he doesn't have to be a leader, at least not right away. He knows he's disposable. The team has the chance to benefit from his tremendous potential, but can cut its losses immediately if he can't get it together.

With the Patriots he starts out as the #3 QB. He'll have to work and learn in a no-nonsense atmosphere with strong role models and strong coaching. When you think about it, where else?

I'm with you, great points. I wanted Stanzi and envisioned him as a perfect understudy to Tommy Brady but Mallett's talents are off the charts for a QB. Cannon arm and can move some in the pocket to escape rush.

Mallet can spin the ball,no question about that. Big arm and can make every throw in the route tree.

However the drug use and questionable posse are issues that need to be resolved. Also remember, we so not have the strong locker room we once had.

I makes me sad, cause we all know that he will be Brady's successor. So once Brady's contact is up and if Mallet shows good sign, that is when we will part away with Brady. He is the highest paid QB in the league right now, so when the new contact is up we might see Brady in another uniform :(.

Keep him on the roster for two years and show the league that he's clean, then trading for a first. Until proven otherwise, I'm considering him equivalent to a 2013 1st.

Superb. :singing::singing:

best qb in the draft

I wish people would stop knocking Mallett. Great arm, lacks mobility, which is exactly what was said about Brady (that and he was 'skinny as a rail')... and off field issues are a problem on the patriots all the sudden?

We will coach him up and trade him in the next 2 years or so, hopefully for a 1st round pick. He's going to be a free agent before Brady retires so I don't think he is the guy they are grooming to take over.

Unless Brady gets hurt and Mallett plays well in real games, what team would give up a first for him?

gr8 pick

we will trade Hoyer for a #2 pick

quote me. Hoyer will net us a 2.

I assume we keep Hoyer up till 2012 he is a RFA

Hoyer would be a perfect fit for Arizona:)

If he keeps his nose(literally) clean for 2 years, he'll get a 1st. He would have been a top 10 pick this year. If he didn't have the drug-related issues. Stay clean. Learn a system. We can ship him off to someone in mint condition in two years for their 1st rounder.

Looks like a QB, plays like an NFL QB, but his character worries me. Hopefully it's just a maturity thing that he can fix behind Brady.

does a third string QB count towards our 53?

My biggest concern with the Mallet pick is that now I'm going to have to endure dozens of threads calling for Mallet to replace Brady in a year because Brady goes through a rough stretch.

And/or his hair.

Or his Uggs, etc.

Yes. Remember that the Patriots at one point kept Brady as their 4th QB. The Pats' patience paid off when Bledsoe went down.

thnx it is well worth it though

Ihope he makes huge statements right away

Hoyer will net us a round 2 pick
