Let's talk a little more on JJ Watt vs. Muhammed Wilkerson

I agree.

Too many similarities to Mike Mamula to warrant such a high pick. Wilkerson has a higher ceiling, IMO.

Any thoughts on Kendrick Ellis at all?

Belichick has been looking for a backup NT for years. Such a player should have another role, perhaps short yardage run defense. Some thought that we were getting that with Brace.

I would be fine with drafting Ellis as a backup NT.

I might be the only one in here who sees JJ Watt as a future BUST

I would take Muhammed of the two...any day,any time

i definately feel that Wilkerson has a higher ceiling in terms of what kind of a player he can become.I love his size.

Good analysis of the two. Originally I was for Muhammed because I don't think Watt will ever develop into a run stuffing 3-4 DE. OTOH with the Pats close to another SB run, I am looking for players who can make an immediate impact in this draft. Wilkerson will take at least 2 years to develop. IMO Watt will immediately help our pass rush and I can see him being used as a DE in both 3-4 and 4-3 fronts. His height and wingspan alone will help against the pass.

The people advocating Wilkerson forget to mention how raw he is technique-wise. He will take longer to develop than Watt and has faced a much lower level of competition. Therefore his transition to the NFL is likely to be tougher as his opponents are now that much bigger and faster than what he's used to seeing.

The same caveat applies to Kenrick Ellis. Although with a second round pick, you're taking a lower risk on a player with serious upside. And Watt's athletic ceiling is much higher than Wilkerson's so I don't get at all the people who think Wilkerson has the higher ceiling. Who tested out with an explosive 37 vert and 10' broad jump? That was Watt, not Wilkerson, let's not get confused here. Size edge to Wilkerson, but explosivness and agility edge to Watt. Not even close there -- Wilkerson's vert and broad, 27" and 8'10 respectively.
