He has a higher ceiling than his draft stock would suggest. I think he has the potential to be a space eater who is stout against the run, ala Ty Warren. He was taking snaps at NT during pre-season so he could be useful depth for the team. I am bullish on his prospects.

FWIW, Weston made it to IR via waived/injured, so he can't have made a tremendous impression on the coaching staff. But he certainly does have the raw physical materials.

Why is that?
My impression of him was a player very good at going forward, but playing in space didn't appear to be part of his skill set. Sheard looked more capable of playing in space, and I have my doubts about him too. :confused2:

The fact he was IR'd after the waiver says he did enough to catch some positive notes from the coaches. As a converted soccer player he's a project and will be interesting to watch going forward.

Isn't that just a contractual obligation for anybody waived/injured? My understanding is that you can waive an injured player in hopes that somebody else will pick him up and free you of his contract, but if that doesn't happen you have to place him on IR for the year.

Never heard it described that way, certainly an interesting take. The kid had a fairly short audition missing OTAs while he waited for his immigration paperwork to update, then he was nicked up and limited in Training Camp. I know he got a few NT/DE reps late in a couple preseason games ... I've seen worse. As long as he's on IR I'm inclined to think he's coming back. :confused2:

This was my understanding as well. The kid fell so far behind and then got hurt.

Fact is he didn't really even start on a mediocre Georgia team unless someone got hurt. He was clearly miscast in a 4-3 and needed to be in a 3-4.

Is he strong enough to hold at the POA? Can he stay healthy? Will he ever be able to learn the playbook?

I think he comes to TC next year ONLY if he does well in the OTA and mini camp programs.

When a player clears waivers as waived/injured, the two possible next steps are IR or negotiating an injury settlement with the player. The player isn't technically required to accept a settlement, and if the anticipated duration of the injury is long enough the team gets little financial advantage from settling anyway. So the IR designation in itself doesn't necessarily mean a lot. The telling part will be what happens in the new league year.
