OT: Jets coach on sidelines trips opposing player

Re: Trip-Gate

Jets: 9-4*

This whole thing makes me sick. Slimy coaching in a slimy organization full of slimebags. New sig for you rex, you slimer.

Alosi apologized but not a peep from Jabba, Tannenbaum, Woody Johnson Etc. What class. I would expect the team to issue a statement condeming Alosi action but as far as i know none has been released.

Would they know what they are apologizing for?

They are probably trying to figure a way to bury the story next to that game ball on the practice field.

Alosi was instructed to do this. The jets management is in a panic now as it was caught on film and now is in the open.

Fair is fair.....500,000 fine, loose first round draft pick, and Alosi should be fired and fined 250,000.

just my opinion

I agree, it should at least match the pats punishment, plus a firing.

i also think the jets organization should at least admit what happened and make a statement.

have they done that yet?

Not a word. Makes you want to launch conspiracy theories, doesn't it? As in:

"Surely they would condemn this obvious breach of sportsmanship and basic ethic...if it were just one rogue coach acting alone? But you can't condemn a guy for doing what you told him, now can you?"

Re: Trip-Gate

Jets: 9-4*

Karma's a beayotch. I picture Goodell curled up in the fetal position in his office in NY, with a "Do No Disturb" sign on the door, the realization that there is basically no good option here beginning to dawn on him.

Re: Trip-Gate

Personally, I like WEEI's Thigh-Gate moniker better than Trip-Gate.

Re: Trip-Gate

I can only see this debacle coming back on the Pats (a possible mental distress defense directed at that 45-3 score). The Pats will likely forfeit 3 draft picks for being too good and thereby forcing the Jets to resort to desperate tactics like this. The Jets are actually victims in this incident.

And no, I see little happening with either this or the Favre incident.

Goodell will rule that Carrol caused Alosi's thigh to hit him because he ran out of bounds and was trying to get back on the field.

I think they need to investigate the other people in that line. I'm not sure what responsibilities the strength coach has on gameday (seems a bit late to improve Sanchez' noodle arm). It would be interesting to know why those guys were occupying such prime real estate on the Jets sideline. Also, do those guys have a related job description or some other reason for being together? I mean, how many people make up their strength and conditioning staff?

I'm not saying there should be punishment unless there is hard evidence this was planned out by Rex. I just want to hear the Jets organization try to explain how 6 low-level employees with no gameday responsibilities just happened to be in that alignment when all other comparable staff was pulled back and not blocking the coach's view of the game. Notice the while line behind them that everyone else seems to be behind. I'm just looking for the comedic value with the potential for a "you can't handle the truth" moment.

Re: Trip-Gate

I don't think Alosi was alone in the act. If you look at the video and the still shots, there are like 6 similarly dressed guys standing all in a line foot to foot playing pocket pool and watching Carroll rather than the returner.

At the very least, they were purposefully deployed there as an obstacle and 1 guy just got a little over zealous.

At worst, the trip was premeditated by the entire group. Someone suggested that one of the other guys on the line seems to dip his shoulder but missed carroll as he fell to the ground.

The whole things stinks IMO and it makes me wonder what the rules are regarding contact with players running out of bounds.

Didn't BB once accidentally (on purpose?) get in the way of a player who was running even further out of bounds one time. I seem to recall a small bit of controversy over it although it never resounded like trip-gate has because it "looked" accidental... like BB was trying to get out of the way and ended up moving in the same direction as the runner who had changed directions to get around him.

anyone remember that? just got me thinking is all ...

Re: Trip-Gate

Personally, I just don't see this as that big a deal. He wasn't trying to injure anyone, he was just cheating a little to help his team. I don't understand why everyone's jumping all over the guy about this. Who hasn't thought about doing something like that if you're in position to?

Yes, he was wrong and should be punished but it's just not as serious a crime as people are making it out to be.

He's not a part of the on-field game, and he could have ended that player's career.

He should probably be fired.

Smart stuff.

The Jets silence is deafening.

A coach on the sidelines tripping a player involved in a play on the field is CHEATING...not a peep out of Jetdell yet...as if this wasn't expected
