Are we still talking about Moss. He is gone. The Pats are 5-1 without him. He free agency stock is sinking faster than the Titantic and probably regrets that he wanted to be traded in the first place. Time to move on.

But I think it's OK to make observations abput Moss here in this thread. His story this year has been fascinating.

Ok, you got a point there, but no more fascinating that Brett Favre's season. I don't see as many Favre discussions though.

I think many people, myself included, are just fed up with Favre. Given that Moss played here it will probably get more attention here.

Yes, and I do read all of the Favre threads too, because I also find him fascinating.

Compassion for Moss

Tennessee Titans wide receiver Randy Moss(notes) generally doesn’t rank at the top of anybody’s list of sympathetic or compassion-deserving characters – probably not even among his biggest fans. But right about now, Moss probably deserves a hug.

First, he’s not winning. Since being let go by the Patriots after they started 3-1, Moss has gone 1-5 between stops at Minnesota and now Tennessee. He has also been limited to 14 catches for 200 yards and two touchdowns over that span – numbers similar to his final six appearances with the Raiders in 2006 (18 receptions, 202 yards, no touchdowns).

Second, he has gone from one nightmare situation to another. In Minnesota, Moss got tossed into the middle of a dysfunctional team on which the quarterback (Brett Favre(notes)) dislikes the head coach (Brad Childress) – a dysfunction Moss only exacerbated. Now, Moss is on a dysfunctional team where the quarterback (Vince Young(notes)) reportedly dislikes the head coach (Jeff Fisher) and is now benched.

So what does that all mean? Well, it’s not a good idea to read Moss’ mind, but at least one person who knows Moss well said Sunday night that the idea of Moss begging his way back to New England in the offseason is getting more and more likely.

“You don’t think he’s thinking about how good he had it in New England?” the source said. “That stuff he said after the Vikings played in New England, he meant it and he’s been talking about it since then. He thought Oakland was messed up, but this stuff is worse. Way worse. He went to Tennessee because he thought it would be great with him, Chris [Johnson] and Vince.

“He didn’t know how weak Vince was.”

I still think this is a covert op by Belichick & Moss. He has no love for either Childress or Fisher.

BB: "Hey Randy, what do you say, would you like to bounce around the league for a few weeks and set fire to some covered wagons?"

Moss: "Anything for you boss, where to first?"

BB: "Do you like wranglers?"

Come on home Randy, mission accomplished! LOL.

Well.. Branch came back home, so anything is possible.

But you have to wonder how much he has left in the tank.. then again, we did sign a 39 year old old fart last year, by the name of Galloway.

My only question is- will Moss tolerate a greatly reduced role in the offense?

Oddly enough I think this last team meltdown actually helps his cause.

I think with him having played on 3 teams in a year one could ask what went wrong at the 2 original locales especially with the Vikings as he seemed to just further add fuel to the fire. But this one with Tenn so clearly has nothing to do with Moss and now Chilly has been fired too. Might make some teams rethinkn wether it might not be as big a risk as it seems.

I think I speak for most on here that we would all welcome back a happy and hardworking Moss but this offseason he will likely sign his last contract and I am not sure I want this guy on a final contract. and with breakdowns that could be blamed on Moss looking more and more like others fault he might have more suitors.

If we can get him for cheap on a one year deal Bill would have to be crazy not to consider it. I don't care if Moss is 65 years old, he's still an enormous upgrade over Brandon Tate.

I do not want Moss back,If we want a downfield threat then we have the draft picks to obtain a YOUNG player who has potential.

Randy is looking more and more like T.O. ...A decoy who makes a deep catch every now and then.

If we can get him for cheap on a one year deal Bill would have to be crazy not to consider it. I don't care if Moss is 65 years old, he's still an enormous upgrade over Brandon Tate.

Tate has 18 catches for 301 yds and will be 23 at the start of the 2011 season. I expect him to be 40-50 catches and 700 yds next year in essentially his 2nd full year in the offense.

Moss has 23 catches for 339 yds and will be 34 at the start of the 2011 season.

The kid won't ever come close to 2007 Randy but he is already at Randy's current level of production.

But ... a team might still pay him that.

more realistically he may be worth 2 - 4 million a year on a team that already has a true #1 or a few top receivers ... but no more than 2 years.

If we were to resign him I don't see him getting a penny over $3 million for 1 year if that.

Repeat after me. Randy Moss is not coming back. He was let go for a reason.

I think you are spot-on. With his marginal production and nomad-like 2010, no one will throw silly money at him.

Unless he wants to play for a team like the Bills for the remainder of his career, I don't think he has a choice. The Pats have obviously changed their offensive scheme and Randy will have to adapt to that, not the other way around.
