Which player(s) has been the biggest disappointment so far?

Tate for mine. Apart from 1 game he's really done nothing on offense to show he's going to be a reliable long term target for Brady. We need some playmaking receivers big time through free agency or the draft.

I agree with a lot of these posts.

On offense:
Brady
Vollmer
Bethel Tate
Edelman

On defense:
Butler
TBC

Special Teams:
Ingram

Everybody else is pretty much who I thought they were, for both good & bad, mostly bad.

Edit: I also want to add Fragile Fred Taylor to the list. What a waste of time, money & a roster spot.

I don't agree with that.

Are you saying Wes Welker is a diva or are you claiming he lacks talent?

I meant the "go deep" WRs like Moss. And I did say seem, because it's clear that it's not a perfect correlation.

Butler is the most glaring.

I also think you can name any WR on the roster (or the one no longer on the roster) and get a guy who has been a disappointment to date.

A lesson I learn every fall but somehow forget every summer is that apparent pre-season performance means nada. Watching Wheatley, Moss, Tate and Edelperson this summah I was convinced that WR was a solid position and that we were set at CB since Butler was a soph. Never thought our solid rookie year LS would get the heebie jeebies.

Butler -- important position, big fall vs. expectations
Moss -- ditto
Brady -- super-important position, some fall vs. expectations
Ingram -- minor position, 180 degrees from expectations

I'll go with Moss over Butler, and both over Brady.

Brady by far in my book. I think this year has put the debate down to rest that Manning is really better than Brady. I am a huge brady fan, but Manning is just so good. The guy puts it on the money every single time. Never misses anyone deep.

This is unfair to Tate, IMO.

People used to say the same thing about Roddy White.

For the people that are saying Brady what do you think the Patriots record would be without him?

I would say either 3-5 or 4-4. Brady has played well this season and has kept the Patriots in every game that they have played. People need to stop getting all over Brady

I think you need to reassess your comparison. Tate is going to need a blow out year to even scrap the barrel that Roddy White was in in his 3rd season.

Through 2 years, White's production leaves Tate's for dead. Tate has been a disappointment for mine this year on offense not on special teams.

So people aren't allowed to have an opinion on Brady if it's about how he's not performing according to their expectations?

Yeah it goes the other way too. If he played better they could be 7-1 or 8-0 IMO

Probably more like 7-1. Even if brady played outstanding during the browns game they woulda lost still IMO

Players no longer with team:

Randy Moss - Would've hoped he would at least play good soldier for one more season with the Pats before pursuing that last big contract.

Laurence Maroney - Fortunately he's disappointing the Broncos as well. Nothing against him personally, but in most cases I hate seeing a player peak right after leaving the Patriots, which is something we seldom see.

Jake Ingram - Just the fact that he was drafted to do his job and he couldn't do it effectively enough.

Players still with team:

Darius Butler - Not much else to say that others haven't already said.

Fred Taylor - Was hoping he still had one more vintage Taylor season in him. In a way, he still has, but that's vintage Fragile Fred instead. Here's what Fred Taylor without the turf toe looks like, for those that may have forgotten.

Logan Mankins - For his holdout.

Leigh Bodden - Not his fault but still disappointing that our best corner had to be put on IR before Week 1.

People are entitled to their opinions, but the title of the thread is "biggest" disappointment. Brady is no wheres close to the biggest disappointment.

The Patriots dont beat the Jets either. The Patriots 6-2 record is a lot better than it should be.

That depends entirely on one's expectations, he's not a big disappointment to me because I didn't expect magnificent play from him, other people might have different expectations.

Well, clearly they had extremely high expectations especially when you look at what Brady has to work with on offense

After last season's performances, I fully expected Julian Edelman to match or exceed his 2009 production of 37 catches. He's my biggest disappointment. Last year, he demonstrated the quickness, elusiveness and good hands that were going to make him a star for us. But in fact, he's done squat. To date, he has:

4 catches for 14 yards, avg. 3.5ypc...FOR THE SEASON.

I don't know how one can say Tate is a disappointment before mentioning Edelman. Tate is coming off two knee surgeries, having never made a catch in the NFL. While hopeful, I didn't have any real expectations for him. Just hopes and dreams. Through 7 games, Tate's receiving yards are about 20-fold more than Edelman's. Plus, he's taken to KR back for scores. Teams are kicking away from him.

Edelman is the disappointment, not Tate.

Your point doesn't make sense if you didn't expect anything from Edelman to being with.
