Pats almost acquired Pierre Thomas

I have to ask whatever happened to Pierre Woods?

Glad this trade didn't go down, pointless. Butler's ceiling is still high even if his floor is caved in at the moment. BJGE is the main back and when Fred is healthy he will be the rotation man. I don't know where Pierre would have fitted.

Thomas would've been perfect in our system. He's one of the most underrated backs in the league. Really, really would've helped this offense when healthy. I wouldn't have givem them Darius Butler, but Wilhite and a draft pick would've gotten it done for me.

I take this to mean Sammy Morris's goose is cooked.

Like we needed another injury prone RB... I still want to see what Darius Butler has in him (If it was him that was possibly being targeted).

If Pierre wasn't hurt and Woodhead hadn't emerged this could have been a good trade..
Pierre Thomas revealed Thursday that doctors "found something else" in his ankle when he was re-examined last week.

Doctors are still telling Thomas that it's simply a bad sprain, not of the high-ankle variety. "Honestly, I feel it all over my ankle," said Thomas. "When you touch it, I feel pain all over my ankle ... So, I really messed it up. They say I really messed it up pretty bad." Thomas doesn't seem any closer to returning now than he did a month ago.

New Orleans Saints running back Pierre Thomas Q&A: Ankle injury still lingers
..but after reading that it I don't like his chances of contributing for another couple weeks.

As long as he avoids the dreaded hangnail injury...

it shouldn't take this thread for you to draw that conclusion.

Other than that special teams block on the kickoff return by Tate, he has been invisible all year

Ha, gotta love Bill B and those draft picks, the Pats love to hustle the weaker organizations.

Would have been nice if they could have thrown Heath Evans to sweeten the pot

I wonder if Butler's name actually was thrown in. If not, maybe Wilhite or Wheatley?
Precisely, NO loses Randall Gay whom they used as their Nickel/Dime back, NE has Wheatley riding the inactive list from a foot injury after a decent looking preseason, and Wilhite NE's Nickel/Dime back.

NO has a RB nursing injuries who is pretty good when he can get on the field and NE traded Maroney, then lost Taylor (short term) and Faulk (season ending) shortly afterward. Thomas is injured, but he's depth for a playoff run, and his inactive time gives him playbook study time.

Thomas is in his contract season, Wheatley and Wilhite are both signed through next season - NE asks for a late round pick to cover the value of 2011 - NO thinks about team building and the value of a draft pick because they are trying to copy NE, no deal.

I doubt Butler was ever mentioned, he's just the one struggling CB most people will find in a casual google/lexis-nexis of NE news reports.

Maybe BB regretted trading his glass RB and wanted another.

I kid, you Maroney lovers. I kid.

Besides, we have Fred Taylor for that role now.

I strongly think it was butler no way they would try to get draft picks fire wilhite or wheatley....also butler was brought up in the reports after miami last year laughing and joking after the loss

When I was a kid, in France, there was a zoo guy who came to the school and showed us all kinds of animals. His name was Pierre Thomas.

He later built a beautiful zoo, to which I take my kids when I go back to France. *that* Pierre Thomas passed a while ago. Zoo de Pont-Scorff- parc animalier dans le Morbihan en Bretagne - Zoo de Pont Scorff France

In other words, I got nothing of value to add to this thread

Ditto.

PS I love zoo stories.

PPS But I wish the guy's name was Randy Moss.

I'm kind of glad we didn't. When healthy, Thomas has been a decent running back. However, it's the "when healthy" part that's concerning. Guy almost makes Shawn Crable look like Iron Man.

Yes, exactly. Thomas is a good player but do the Patriots really need another run of the mill oft injured RB? Kick his tires in free agency and buy a hyperbolic chamber for him and Fred Taylor.

Wheatley?

Is he still on the roster???

I know Wilhite is..I keep seeing his Hobbs like coverages

really ? i cannot think of 1 slot WR or TE having great success against us. I see him more with the safeties nicked up.

I don't think it is true.

It smells like tabloid sports journalism to me. Note they did not name which CB was being offerred.

The Saints fans I've talked to also seem to discredit it, saying the team would not have considered trading thomas.
