Brian Allee-Walsh of NewOrleans.com reports Pierre Thomas was nearly traded to the Patriots leading up to the October 19 deadline.
Further confirmation of Coach Sean Payton's ongoing frustration with Thomas' inability to shake nagging injuries. The Saints were targeting a cornerback (Darius Butler?) in return, but talks came to a halt when the Patriots asked for a draft pick to be thrown in. Thomas can probably forget about receiving that long-term contract for which he's been pining. He should have accepted what the Saints were offering last spring. Nov. 4 - 5:14 pm et

Interesting. If the Saints do not offer him the contract then he's an FA available w/o trading a player and a pick.

Bias note: I have a thing against players named Pierre. Just sayin.

I wonder if Butler's name actually was thrown in. If not, maybe Wilhite or Wheatley?

Okay Clint. Ya look lust like that in your beach pic anyway. I dunno why you bothered to change it. Same crusty image, just a different guy sporting it. lol.

I bet ya wouldn't mind Pierre Garcon lining up wide fer Tha Pats tho.

Wheatley?

Is he still on the roster???

I know Wilhite is..I keep seeing his Hobbs like coverages

Probably all ended on a conditional 7th round draft pick.

I don't know, Thomas is in his contract year and hasn't played since week 3. Unless the Pats were absolutely certain he would be able to play soon it wouldn't make sense for them either short term or long term; and New Orleans with their RB injuries, it doesn't help them either.

How close are Belichick and Payton? They must have some sort of relationship, they did set up the pre-season scrimmage. Maybe this is a bit far-fetched, but perhaps both sides floated this rumor in order to light a fire under both Thomas and Butler.

That could certainly be the case. Or trade an underachiever for another and hope that a change of scenery would work out for both of them.

Well our Bill is consistent ... he goes to sleep nightly dreaming of how to acquire more draft picks. He will forever want more picks to makeup for the one we lost.

I'm kind of glad we didn't. When healthy, Thomas has been a decent running back. However, it's the "when healthy" part that's concerning. Guy almost makes Shawn Crable look like Iron Man.

This!

Normally I'm a hate conspiracies kinda guy but this has a ring of possibility.

Eh, I don't know about that. Thomas is legitimately banged up. I have him stashed on my fantasy squad just in case he comes back and tears it up late in the season. He's been quoted for the last month or so as saying that his "ankle still doesn't look like a normal ankle". Take that for what it's worth.

Butler's problematic status combined with Saints' frustration with Pierre's MIA made the speculation attractive to me. That said, I admit the 'conspiracy' is outside the 3 sigma range of probability.

Acquiring Pierre Thomas this season might have been interesting. And New Orleans does need secondary help. However, as intriguing a player that Thomas is. He's possibly injury prone.

I doubt he would of already given up on Darius Butler, unless he had Thomas in the long term plans they would be throwing away Butler for one year of thomas and some probably low draft pick.

Good thing that didn't go through. Not a fan of trading for mediocre RB's especially when CB is enough of a worry now. And why would you trade for somebody with a bad ankle sprain? He's still not practicing.

With Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas injury concerns and Mike Bell heading off in the off-season it would seem strange for the Saints to trade Thomas leaving them with 1 often injured RB in Bush and Chris Ivory, Ladell Betts and Julius Jones at RB.

None of them are the Law Firm .
