Peyton Manning is a dominant QB no doubt, but he can't win when it counts. He has won only 1/2 superbowls and Brady has won 3/4. Peyton has had a good team to win so many years but often comes up short. Brady I think is a smarter and harder working QB than Manning. I'm also pretty sure Brady has more NFL records than Manning. I bet that by the time they are both retired, Brady is ahead of Manning on this list.

Not sure who is left for defense but Ray Lewis is a worth top 20 IMO.

apparently Favre is a better qb than Marino and TB.

Really? They went with these images?

I like the tongue sticking out. My 5 year old nephew does that when he's concentrating, too.

Edit:
Ha! They got Elway with the tongue too!

There had to have been better photos of these guys!

List is a complete JOKE Honestly whoever makes this list has zero credibility after this IMO...

I was also going to comment on how TB should have been rated higher, but then I put this into perceptive. The fact that we are quibbling where the Patriots QB is seeded in the top 25 NFL players of all time is pretty awesome.

Its not like a definitive list anyway and his career is far from over. Lets enjoy the rest of the ride and appreciate what we have.

Well I had just had my first look at that list and I seen that Deion Saunders, and Barry Sanders of my top 5 in my lifetime are already out and not in the top ten.

Lawrence Taylor, Jerry Rice and Joe Montana are my other top 5 players.

I'm disgusted that Peyton Manning has made that top ten list. He doesn't belong there, he is a great but not that great.
The other guy who is in it and always gets rated higher than Sanders for some reason is Walter Payton. Now I'm not saying he is not top ten but he is behind Barry Sanders for sure imo.
When all is said and done in about 10-15 years time Brady will be in that top ten and Manning will not.

I just noticed now too that Curtis Martin is not on that list. Its a steaming pile of crap if he is ahead of Barry Sanders too. FFS.

Favre was extremely dominant in the late 90s, and hes been able to have a lengthy career. Undoubtedly a good quarterback worthy of top 20.

That said I hate him and hes a douchebag.

Not sure who is left for defense but Ray Lewis is a worth top 20 IMO.

Is Peyton Manning one of the 10 best players in NFL history? Deion Sanders? - The Huddle: Football News from the NFL - USATODAY.com

The funny thing about all the Favre haters is their clear disregard for his accomplishments. The guy has been in the league for 20 years and has had 1 losing season! He holds most major records for QBs. He has won a Super Bowl. He has won 3 MVPs. This guy isn't some journeyman quarterback who hung around for 20 years and was named 20th best for no reason.

I guess a Super Bowl win against the Rex Grossman Bears is what separates Manning from being among the top 35, rather than the top ten.

I agree with others. It will take 15-20 years, but people will realize Brady's true greatness eventually. While it's too bad we can't enjoy that now, we can enjoy watching one of the two best QBs of all time (Joe Montana is the other, obviously).

And heres the problem with this list. Butkus, Hutson and Brown and Johnny U all played in an era where they were clearly the most dominant players. This isn't their fault i know, but everyone knows you put Butkus in the modern NFL and he couldn't play.

The title is "100 greatest players" well Ray Lewis could do everything Butkus can do and more. He can cover. He can run. He could hit and put fear into the other team just like Butkus.

Hutson, while his stats are amazing has just simply been passed by some of the athletic freaks of today, like Randy Moss, for example.

They should rename the list "100 greatest legends of the NFL" cos its not a list of the best based on ability.

I see Bronko Nagurski is ahead of Tom Brady and Dan Marino. Urgh.

I'm the lone voice in the crowd that begs to differ. I'd also add that it's not a given that Ray Lewis would be a certain HoF if he played back in 1966. I mean, what if Butkus was given every advantage players have now (HGH/Steroids, training methods, better pain killers, advancements in rehab, surgery techniques, modern coaching, film study, etc.) that Ray Lewis has today? Same argument can be applied in reverse. What if Lewis didn't get the surgeries, the HGH, the coaching, the nutrition that he has now? If he played in the 50s or 60s, would his career have lasted 15 years? I don't think so but that's my opinion.

I don't want to get into a whole genomics or human evolution discussion but I do think that if a guy with the heart, fierceness, talent and determination of Butkus was provided the same advantages as Lewis, he's still be pretty good. He may very well be only a 1st or 2nd down guy (speed of the game, etc) but I think he'd still play in the NFL in some capacity.

My .02$

ray lewis at 18? the guy hasn't even sniffed a super bowl appearance since 2000. so he makes tackles- who cares. the problem with this list is that the people voting are always going to be biased towards players who are currently doing well. ray lewis being 18 has a lot to do with baltimore having a top defense in the early part of this year. manning is in the top 10 because of his recent MVPs and super bowl appearance. brady hasn't really done anything since 2007 in the voters' view so he gets knocked down.

I don't get Farve - Sure he's been durable, holds records, and Won a Super Bowl. But he's the same guy who's ruined 3 teams seasons over the last 4 years, GB in 2007 with that 2nd Half meltdown in the NFC Championship game, 2008 Jets with the late season destruction due to injury and of course the Vikings last year, again with the poor decision making and INT's and then the horrid play this year.

This is the SAME guy they are praising, It seems that if you stay in the league long enough, that you get a pass on the destruction you cause at the end of your career.

Stupid. Really.

Yep. If Brady had a four year spread like that, they would have relegated him to the 50s.

Would you rather have Brett Favre's career or Tom Brady's career?

I know I'd choose Brady's, and I'd like to think that most people who value winning, consistency, efficiency, and leadership would do the same.

Tom Brady has the greater career, all things taken into account. He deserves the higher ranking. With that said, it doesn't matter, and I'm quite sure Tom Brady could care less about things like this.

Farver used and abused painkillers illegally to get an edge during the 90's...he's the Sammy Sosa of the NFL...shouldn't even be in the top 500
