Answer to the title question- NO! BB does not give up on a practice.

I think we should all wait to see how this whole thing plays out. There is speculation that this move plus possible Makins trade to SB clears the way for a trade with SD for Vincent Jackson.Moss and Mankins $ willbe used to sign Jackson to a long term deal.

The Mad Scientist

Belichick has morphed into this little mad scientist who is running around in control of absolutely everything in this organization. There are absolutely no figures of authority in this organization other than Belichick. Our owner is whipped and will do anything that Belichick tells him to do for fear of losing him. We have no offensive or defensive coordinators. We have nobody other than Belichick lackeys on our coaching staff and have won no titles since Crennell and Weiss left town. We have no real player personnel guy in place and Belichick makes all of the decisions on that front. Does anyone really think that all of the mad scientist wheeling and dealing on draft day comes from anyone other than Belichick? He is calling every shot on draft day and they ought to put up a tent over that circus each year. If he got up this morning and said that "I really like this Hoyer kid and I am going to trade Brady to Tampa for a 2nd round pick in 2013", does anyone believe that he wouldn't have this done in a heartbeat? There is nobody to stand up to him. He is completely unchecked.

Every year he gets more and more power and is sitting there like a wizard stirring the pot. I have always been part of the "In Belichick we trust" mindset, but the NFL is what have you done for me lately and we have exactly 0 playoff wins since we won the AFC Championship Game in 2007 and our last playoff appearance was an absolute debacle. Without a reciever to stretch the field this year, we have fallen further behind the Jets and will not be winning the Super Bowl this year either and this is a darn shame in light of the fact that our once in a lifetime quarterback is going to be yet another year older.

I see Pat Chung, but that is only because he charitably slows down so the human eye can interpret his movements.

Seriously folks: IF Moss is traded, especially to Minn., it signals to me what such moves always signal - the right move at the time.

Moss may have a lot left, but it may be a lot he's unwilling to give the PATS. Or it may be that he's right at what BB et al. consider the end of his long "elite" plateau. Maybe he's rolling the dice a little, given the young talent that's emerging. Maybe Mr. Grim is seeing a glass much more half-full than we long-time fans, and likes what he sees out of Woodhead and BJGE and Tate and Gronk and Hernandez. Maybe that Welker "afterthought" from that offseason impresses him more. Maybe adding Edelman - injured now or not - gives him a little more confidence. Maybe he reasons that w/Brady, he won a SB with Antowain Smith at RB, and David Givens as a #1 receiver, and he thinks better of his developing defensive talent than we do.

Maybe he sees in Minnesota a motivated buyer, a known desire on Moss' part to play with Brett Favre, and only a few months of likely Moss play on the Pats anyway.

Christ, the sky isn't falling if Moss goes, and the Messiah hasn't arrived if we ended up with some other elite talent on some other deal.

This place needs Prozac.

I have read pretty much every post on this topic and this by and far is the most reasonable well thought out response written, people need to calm down and understand the NEP did play football prior to 2007

and the pats weren't going to win an SB this year either while moss sulks every time he's not a part of something win or lose. come playoff time, there will always be a defense perfectly suited to stop the kind of offense the pats have or had with moss here.

Are you sitting on the field with Moss to make that observation? The guy cannot win with fans who see what they want to see. I have seen him smiling on the sideline this season, even in games he hasn't done much. People reading body language, self-proclaimed psychologists, should take a moment to think facial expressions often times are a response to what is happening on the sidelines in conversations, not some greater dissent. It's like the Brady body language crap of last year. Unsurprisingly, everything does not take place on television, and football is generally not reality television. It is a few hours of a team's week.

As for your observation on the offensive style, care to explain 2002 and 2005? Same offense style, no championships and one playoff game. As you may recall, receiver contact emphasis opened the game up and produced high scoring offenses, not clock control champions. The game changed since the last title. How many teams have been high powered offenses like the Pats since 2004? How many ground and pound? You might not like the present NFL, but you cannot turn back time to when that previous style tended to work.

Yes, Moss was a fantastic player, but there are other plays on the team! 52 to be exact!

Moss is a huge loss, and we might not see deep balls as much anymore, but have trust in BB and TFB, and it will all workout!

Parcells quit on the team. BB is long term planning and doing what is best for the future of the franchise. He either feels confident that the offense with Moss is good enough to continue winning or he know that the young D is another year off from being dominant and is moving assets accordingly.

He clearly did what he thought was in the best interests of the team. Only time will tell if that bears out.

I think BB already knows this team doesn't have what it takes (young players and apprenticing play callers) to win this season. Even with the best receiver in the game on the roster. So, he's willing to move Moss now for a draft pick rather than lose him to free agency after the season for nothing.

In other words Bb is treating this as a rebuilding season. Take a crappy 3rd rounder for Brady's best offensive weapon.

This reminds me of the Celtics decision, they could have traded away Ray Allen at the trade deadline. It was his final year. They kept him and ended up in the finals with a chance to win it all. Can RA be wildly inconsitent at times and throw up brick after brick? Yes. But defenses MUST account for him and when he is on, he shoots lights out. The Pats basically just gave away an all-pro WR and a shot at fielding the #1 offense in the NFL this year for a pittance. They dumped their Ray Allen for a 3rd round pick.

Take away the #1 WR from that offensive equation, the same HOF-bound receiver who powered the two greatest scoring offenses of all time - Vikings 98 and Pats 07.
What do you get? A frustrated Tom Brady and a much LESS potent offense.

What do we get in return? Some crappy future mid round picks? A 33 year old CB who can't rush the passer?
This would signal REBUILD mode. Throw away this season, wait for Brady to get a year older and PRAY you have the draft of a lifetime in 2011.
I think that a very expensive HDTV is getting trashed at the Brady household right about now.

The problem here is we would have gotten compensation for Moss leaving ANYWAY. For a player of his calibre, we likely would have got a 3rd round comp pick... so, we basically gave Moss away to move up a couple spots in the 3rd round? It doesn't make any sense. This ONLY makes sense if we A. Make another move or B. BB couldn't stand Moss's antics anymore. If it's B, I will be EXTREMELY dissappointed in BB. Face it, all elite WRs come with baggage, it's their nature.

BB is not quitting the season.

He is setting up the team for grind and pound offense. Medium to short passes and many runs. Fast touchdowns makes our defense tired and more vulnerable than it already is.
I think we'll probably get back to long offensive drives and Randy would not contribute as much as he had in previous offensive schemes.
Randy is going to leave after this season anyway, might as well get something for him. Also disgruntled #1 WR is NOT the way to long term playoff hopes.

If you want to use that logic then you could compare it to 2004 when the Red Sox traded Nomar. How did that turn out? Comparisons like this are silly at best.

Umm, just for the record, the Patriots have scored 17 touchdowns this year. About a third of those have come from the D and ST.
