Patriots Player Departure Rumor: Moss to Vikings?

This gif, along with others, is the only thing keeping me going tonight.

This is what I believe you guys will get.

2nd and a 3rd round pick and that's it. Vikings won't make a trade that includes a starter unless it's Bernard berrian. As a vikings fan we have the advantage because your head office wants him gone and a 2nd and 3rd will do. If they keep him they get a headache all season and nothing when he leaves.

let me say this again you will not get Jared allen or chad greenway under any circumstance.

MinVikeGuy, you might be right about who the Vikes will give up but are wrong about the Vikes having the advantage. The Patriots could probably trade Moss to 5 different teams in a heart beat. The Vikes have almost no where to turn to get a big threat WR of Moss' stature. Plus add to it that the Vikes have Farve in his last year and are in need (or perceived to be in need) of getting Farve a big threat WR. Moss is the best and maybe the only very big threat WR you are going to get. And I am sure the owner of the Vikes is currently salivating at getting Farve to Moss headlines and TV highlights.

This picture indicates the Vikings are in a position of weakness and the Patriots in a position of strength. I would say the only wild card is if Randy is demanding a trade to the Vikes.... and will be a malcontent if he isn't traded to the Vikes.

I live in Hawaii. I'm so far behind and confused, didn't we just whup the fins?

I was under the impression moss had a no trade clause I might be completely incorrect about that, but I thought I read that somewhere. Either way like you said above Moss can be a huge pain in the butt if he doesn't get what he wants and I think we can all agree "IF" he doesn't want to be a pat, he would like to be a viking.

I think you are 100% correct in saying he WILL be a malcontent if he doesn't go to the vikes and I think that is a huge wild card people are missing.

Re: Moss for a 3rd is illogical

It also doesn't make sense because they would receive a comp 3 pick when he departs in FA.

As I said in another post, if it isn't a 1st or 2nd, it's another dumb-irrational move.

edit: someone said the best the Pats get is a comp 5th pick for Moss when he departs.

Compensation is based on the contract that the free agent signs. As a free agent Moss would command one of the top salaries on the market, so the top free agent compensation is a 3rd round pick in the year AFTER you lose him. Comp picks are sandwiched at the very end of rounds so are less valuable than regular picks. You also can't trade them.

What makes Moss think he's going to win at Minnesota when they are currently almost as bad as the Lions at this point?

just posted in the local paper here.

Moss to Vikings will be done Wednesday

Randy Moss' return to Minnesota appears to be just hours away from being made official.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported the Vikings and New England plan to complete the trade that will send the wide receiver back to the Vikings on Wednesday, according to multiple sources. Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reported Tuesday evening that the Vikings and Patriots had been engaged in serious trade talks.

One source told ESPN, "I'd be shocked if it doesn't happen."

The Vikings apparently were so confident they were going to land Moss on Tuesday that they dealt defensive end Jayme Mitchell to the Cleveland Browns in the afternoon to clear roster space.

For whatever reason, however, the Moss deal slowed down shortly thereafter and was not completed.

What remains unclear is if Moss is going to be given a contract extension by the Vikings or if he will join the team playing in the final year of his deal. That's what he has been doing in New England and he hasn't been happy about it.

As Chip wrote on an earlier blog, the Vikings have made it clear they are all in for this season and thus going after Moss is only mildly surprising. Remember, Brad Childress' culture of accountability once focused on getting players who were the opposite of Moss. The realization Childress probably came to long ago is that while many of those players might be good people they can't make up your entire roster.

Moss will give Brett Favre the type of target he has wanted so badly this season and Favre has made it clear before he would love to play with Moss. Here is a very interesting article in the National Football Post writtten by former Packers executive Andrew Brandt that discussed Favre's disappointment with Green Bay's two failures to land Moss.

If Moss does receive an extension from the Vikings, it will be interesting to see the line of players outside the door of Vikings vice president of football operations Rob Brzezinski. The Vikings have several players who will be free agents after this season and many have been told that extensions simply weren't going to be discussed.

Obviously, this was in large part because of the uncertainty over the collective bargaining agreement.

The problem is that since players were told that, Favre has been given $3 million more to return and now Moss might find himself with a multiyear contract. Linebackers Chad Greenway and Ben Leber aren't the type to complain but privately they can't be blamed if they wonder what's going on here. And that's only naming two of a group that includes Ray Edwards and Sidney Rice.

Then there is running back Adrian Peterson whose deal will void after the 2011 season. Peterson would like a new deal as soon as possible according to people in the know and telling him to be patient is only going to work for so long.

In the short term, this potential trade stands to be an excellent move for the Vikings. In the long term, it's likely just another sign that even without a new stadium this team is willing to spend money that rivals the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins.

Not that he will win perhaps as much as he won't be a decoy like he is here.

Obviously Moss doesn't care about winning. He cares about getting that last contract and I can't blame him. Players windows to make cash in this game is smaller than people are lead to believe.

Moss should be worrying about getting a Ring if he wants to be better than Rice... I believe he is but a ring will help big time. plus he needs a Brady for him to get the touchdowns

Correct on all accounts.

And here's a wild card that I'm surprised no one has mentioned, because it's staring us all in the face:

Might not the Vikings ~ especially as they campaign for a new Stadium ~ pay a premium to reverse The Greatest Public Relations Disaster of their history??

lol @ Favre's interception total as he forces the ball to Moss for the next 12 weeks

The only player I'd want back from the Vikings is Jared Allen or Kevin Williams. DE is the one big hole that the Pats have. Otherwise the compensation better START with a 1st round pick.
Don't want Peterson or Winfield or any other Viking on that roster. Peterson wouldn't fix this D. Neither would a CB who can't rush the passer.

I go to bed and wake up to these rumors! Be a shame to see him go, but at least we can get something before he leaves for nothing!

And LFC has been bought by the Red Sox owner, what is going on!

But dont forget its been Moss's dream to team up with Favre. And vice versa. Even though Favre's old you cant honestly say he can't play with the best. Favre could beat up all of our dads! If this deal goes through Moss will be motivated once again with the Vikes (Best Moss fanbase), and if Rice returns back to form thats just a deadly combination that Minny has. Then Harvin just runs rampit all over the place. Moss/Rice eats up Ocho/Owens! BB should should make his cat scans public information so maybe the public can have a little better insight onto how he thinks.

We've had Moss/Stallworth/Welker and now Moss/rookie tight end phenoms/Welker with TOM FREAKIN' BRADY throwing the ball!!! If that isn't going to bring the best out of Moss's potential to dominate the game -- which you assume it should -- Favre and whomever certainly will do no better. As one poster here said earlier, for $9 million you'd expect a wide receiver to not only draw double coverage but consistently beat it, and Randy doesn't do that at this stage of his career with any regularity.

Anyways it late here in Minnesota so I am going to head to bed. You guys seem like good peeps so I wish you the best of luck on your season and your personal life's.

week 8 Oct 31 we will both see moss play then, question is what team will he be on.
