Tom Curran: BJGE could be 2010 starter

Sweet Jesus. Batten down the hatches, here I come declaring war. Anyway, I just wanted to throw it out there that the launch point for this thread is wrong. What I said was, in my opinion, starting BJGE was an indication that he and Maroney are in a virtual dead heat at this point or BJGE is ahead. Taylor is their best back. Healthy until proven otherwise.

I love the passion you guys show. What's jaw-dropping, though, is the number of times one guy misconstrues what we say, sprints with it and touches off a &*$$ storm.

The fact that people believe I said anything from "Brady will miss 2009" up to "Brady's career is over" is proof of that.

Enjoy the season.

Tom (If you really are Tom Curran),

I appreciate you responding to us.

Just a quick point. I pointed out multiple players who started the first game of the preseason to not even make the final 53 man roster because they were cut. Chad Jackson, Fernando Bryant, David Boston, and others fall in this category. Making assumptions that BJGE is now either on par or ahead of Maroney on the depth chart based on one preseason game is a dangerous proposition. History has shown that starting the first preseason game doesn't even guarantee you a roster spot nevermind a starting role.

I seriously doubt that's actually Curran.

Well then it's someone who went to a lot of trouble pretending to be Curran because there's been only one post since his/her joindate in Nov. 2009.

Prentice McCray for those of you who don't know is a former Patriots safety whose best year was in '76. The only player in Pats history to return 2 INTs for two TD's in one game, I believe.

TC probably has just been reading the blog since last November and couldn't contain himself any longer.....

Curran used to post here.
I can understand why he would be scarce.

So this entire discussion has been based upon what you personally think that the meaning of BJGE playing first on Thursday is an indication of?
I believe it was portrayed here as you passing on inside infrmation from the organization.

In a word, Andy...yes. Basically, you sit down in the chair on these shows and don't know what you're going to be asked. When you are, there's not a lot of time to formulate all permutations. The question was to the effect of, "What does BJGE getting the start mean for Maroney?" Given the fact Maroney was basically abandoned after he fumbled against the Jags and that he's behind Taylor on the depth chart, I put those guys neck and neck.

That's all.

The "getting everybody carries" notion is plausible and so are a lot of other explanations. Sometimes I know exactly what's going on, sometimes I have a good idea, sometimes I'm making an educated guess and sometimes I have no clue and try to admit it.

In this case, it's an educated guess.

That makes an awful lot of sense, and I'm definitely fine with that. I assume most of us are, and whatever frustration there is mainly stems from columnists presenting their opinions as something more than opinion. Now, how much of that is the writer's fault, as opposed to a conclusion that we leap to (and then hold you accountable for it)... that's a great question. I catch myself doing that from time to time, and I bet there are times that I do it where I don't catch myself.

As long as everyone understands that this is all opinions and educated guesses, and nothing more, then I think that opens the door for more discussion and less debating of credibility, sources, etc. etc. I would still take some issue with the conclusions that you reached (for the reasons that Rob gave a couple of posts ago), but I can also see where you're coming from.

And thanks for posting, btw. It's always interesting to get to interact with the people whose work we spend so much time talking about.

Thanks for posting, but that seems like you think Law firm has an equal chance to start based on that game.

Still pretty surprising. Yeah, Maroney fumbled a few times last year and sat, but he ran better in that "breakthrough" game at NO than BJGE did, and even if he didn't exist, BJGE starting for an NFL team seems preposterous to me.

I agree Fred Taylor is our best running back, he's one of the best running backs of the last 20 years (a notch below Dillon IMO). He's also about 80 years old in running back years.

Tom,

Thanks for sharing. Admitting that you have no clue is the first step towards redemption. Unfortunately for you it’s a painful 25 step process. Good luck - and perhaps rely less on opinions and stick to fact based reporting until you complete the process.

Best,

Winston

Yes - He’s not doing too well of late. He suffers from an obsessive compulsive cleaning disorder and has become a bit of a germaphobe. He is in a 3 step program – don’t rinse, don’t wash, don’t repeat.

Best,

Winston

"Check out the big brain on Psycho! You're a smart mf'er. That's right....Winston Smith is from the novel "1984" by George Orwell.."

Uh oh, I think I have a new favorite poster.

If I'm curt with you, it's because time is a factor. I think fast, I talk fast, and I need you two guys to act fast if you want to get out of this. So pretty please, with sugar on top, clean the f.....g car.

Actually I think it is Prentice McCray, the Patriots safety from the 70s, pretending to be Curran.

Actually, I am curious why Tom would select a rather obscure Patriots player to use as a screenname. It definitely shows whoever it is has a good sense of history of the team.
