Re: OT (Jets) : this is what an idiot sounds like

"This is my team," Sanchez said. "This is my offense. You need to own it. . . . When you walk in a room, people should know: That's the quarterback. That's our guy."

Mark Sanchez takes ownership of Jets as "my team" | ProFootballTalk.com
I don't find this a big deal, it sounds like hes trying to be a leader. When the bullets start flying i guess we'll find out.

Jabba the Gut is another matter entirely, hes off the hook, off the wall, and over the top. He must have forgotten about all the Kleenex he went trough last November and December when his team was losing all those games. He wasn't running his mouth on the side lines when the Jests were losing all those games.

Wrong. He said the Jets would have a top defense and running game before the '09 season. That wasn't backed up? Try again.

Sanchez is obviously the unquestioned leader of the team now, and I'm happy to see that. Everyone in the locker room respects him.

Maybe but then why did he feel he had to announce himself so?

You mean, unlike Brady?

When he was a rookie, Brady introduced himself to Kraft in a hallway at the old Foxboro Stadium and when Kraft replied that he knew who he was, Brady replied, “I’m the best decision this organization has ever made.”

This is a non-issue.

Re: OT (Jets) : this is what an idiot sounds like

It's amazing how insecure most of you are. This should be a complete non-story.

Re: OT (Jets) : this is what an idiot sounds like

When talking about the Jets, it's important to realize the level of stupidity you're dealing with, especially in terms of their fans. Just yesterday someone on Jets Insider said (talking about a trip to the Super Bowl):

"To prove to all the doubters that season's playoff was no fluke, Mark Sanchez would be validated, Rex Ryan would be validated as one of the great coaches this league has ever seen, it would validate Woody Johnson as a truly great owner (I think he is)."

It's more like a feeding frenzy. It's not as if the Jets haven't chummed the media waters, after all.

Re: OT (Jets) : this is what an idiot sounds like

I think its a small issue. Brady didn't claim he was the team leader, only eluded to his confidence that great things were coming. Obviously if he did try and claim that at that time then he would have been criticized for it. Sanchez is starting quarterback and shouldn't have to tell everyone he's the leader. Maybe by tooting that horn he shows that he's not sure everyone thinks that yet or maybe he's trying to convince himself....then again Maybe that's what Brady was doing

Re: OT (Jets) : this is what an idiot sounds like

I'm starting to think the Jets are going to better than the Patriots based on the recent obsession on this board. This is exactly what Jets' fans have done for the last ten years whenever Tom Brady has yawned.

The Jets are just another team. We play them twice. None of the trash talk or hype means anything on the field.

The Patriots were Super Bowl favorites in the off season in 2007, 2008, and 2009, and during that time averaged over 12 wins per year, despite losing Brady for all of '08. All of a sudden they are garbage because they "only" won 10 games last year (despite being in position to win 15 of those). All of the distractions regarding "aging veterans" and the need to rebuild an old defense are done. I see a great young defense that is one or two pieces away from being back at dynasty standards. I see an offense that is still one of the best in the NFL, beginning the season with a relatively healthy group. I think people are underestimating this team. As far as the Jets go, they are a team that hasn't won 11 or more games since 1998. They don't deserve the recognition that they're getting.

Re: OT (Jets) : this is what an idiot sounds like

It is kinda funny that Bledsoe got killed on this board for claiming not to be a leader on offense and now Sanchez is getting killed for saying he is taking the entire responsibility of the offense on his shoulders. I think the QB has to be "The Guy" on offense good or bad. That is basically what Sanchez is saying. Hopefully it will be for the bad.

Re: OT (Jets) : this is what an idiot sounds like

No, but I follow the Jets very closely. Everyone stood behind him during his slump last year. He was the guy. This year, he's respected even more. The guy put in a lot of work to better himself in the offseason, and the team respects that.

A full season of sucking is now considered a "slump" ?

Re: OT (Jets) : this is what an idiot sounds like

It's this kind of arrogance (er...leadership?) that Rex encourages. Rex 'aint dumb. The NY fanbase consists of rabid dogs thirsty for a championship - combine that with that "NY attitude" and you have a NY Yankee fan waiting to bust out in Green. This shoot-from-the-hip, bravado, arrogant, loud and sometime abnoxious tenor is perfect for the Jets fanbase. They eat it up. It's who they are. Give it up to Rex and Woody. They know what they are doing.

And speaking of doing.....a slight part of me think this Revis hold out has something to do with Hardknocks. If I recall, there was a rookie holdout last year. The Cincy owners looked like they were working 'round the clock to appease the rooks desires, without looking like they were caving too much. Me thinks, sometimes, this is a way for Woody to get out there and look like a good guy after the PSL fiasco.

I agree. When I mentioned in the "Jets suck" thread the other day that I'd never seen a Patriots board so enamored by the Jets, their coach and their off season, a MOD moved the thread into a forum no one ever visits (as stated by Tunescribe). I smell fear. Now I know that comment will bring out the typical mantra flying around here, but no matter what they say, you and I both know Im right. You don't see anyone on here talking about the Bills. Why? Because they're not considered a threat. The fans on here are worried about the Jets. Some of them have the balls to stand up to the stupid comments while others resort to the Rex Ryan bashing. So be it. I'll be on here Sept 20th to congratulate either winner. I say the 20th because I'm certain I'll be busy celebrating in Manhattan until the midnight hours of the 19th.

Thats better

Re: OT (Jets) : this is what an idiot sounds like

I've never seen a coach like this, at any level. I can only conclude that a big part of his bluster is calculated and orchestrated by Woody as the carnival-barker role aimed at calling attention to the team for PSL sales. They definitely found the right guy for that part of the job. Pretty soon Cromartie will be demanding $15.1 million too.
his persona is similar to Jerry Glanville back in the day but he's a better defensive mind

...and this is still the difference between Patriots fans and Jets fans. Your SB is when you play the Pats. Ours is an actual SB in February.

what it boils down to is, rex is a blowhard and that's a perfect fit for their blowhard fanbase.

Wow. Really?!?! Did it ever occur to you that maybe there's a lot of Jets talk on here because they give us a lot to talk about?!?! We have heard more s**t from the players and the head coach then EVER before. Remember Rex Ryans "kiss the rings" comment? Remember the Super Bowl you won in week 2 last year?! Never mind all the stuff that's been spewed by them this off season. If you're team just stayed humble and did their talking on the field, there would barely be a mention of them here.

By the way, let's not forget that the last time these teams met you got crushed, so I'd be careful about making any week 2 predictions.

Let me make this perfectly clear. While some people here may be "worried about the Jets", most of us hold them in disdain. I, personally, find it comical that the Jets are being touted at the level they are, given that the team's path to the playoffs included two lay downs, and that the only reason they beat the Chargers is because the S.D. kicker had a gas-pipe game for the ages.

To each his own, I guess, but worry is not what I feel about the Jets. I'd classify it more as 'patronizing condescension', much as Dolphins fans used to feel towards Patriots fans.

Heh, if the Pats beat the Jets, most Pats fans will probably have a congratulatory beer, eat some dinner, go to bed, and get a good night's sleep so they can get up and work the next day. If the Jets beat the Pats, the Jets fans will be partying in Manhattan like it's New Years? Which fans really view the other team as the king?
