What did you like about him that made you think he's a good fit in the NE offense? I honestly see no reason why he (or any other UDFA WR that can contribute on ST) couldn't beat out Aiken.

Figure to start the season the WR corps could stack up as:

Moss
Holt
Edelman
Tate
Price
UDFA WR/Aiken/Stanbeck

I definitely think they keep six to start the year, and by the time Welker is ready to come off PUP someone will have washed out or been IR'd.

See the ball, be the ball...he's not especially fast in a straight line, but his change of direction is good and against defenses knowing Lefevour was looking for him, he still got open. Now imagine him after Randy Moss and Tommy Brady gives him some pointers, and he gives Tommy those windows he gave Lefevour? Especially with Moss, Welker/Edleman, and/or Hernandez stressing the defense.

Anderson is my binky too but I will let BOR list his reasons. However, Anderson will not be competing with Aiken for a roster spot, because Aiken is in ST and a captain there as well. He would have to displace someone in the upper end of the WR roster.

I don't get that thinking. Everyone here agrees ST was horrible last year. Yet from reading this board the roster seems to be stacked top-to-bottom with special teams "studs" and "demons." How can that be if our coverage was so bad?

I have no beef with Aiken, he's a decent player, but if someone can come in and can vastly outperform him at WR and play some ST to boot, IMO that player will be on the roster over Aiken.

A member of the All-MAC team for the fourth consecutive season...WR Bryan Anderson enters the MAC title game with an NCAA record 52 consecutive games with a reception. He extended that streak to 54 games in the MAC title game victory over and Central Michigan's bowl victory over Troy. Twice Academic All-MAC, carried a 3.24 GPA.

I give this kid as good chance at making the roster as 3rd round picks Taylor Price and Brandon Tate. Second to Mardy Gilyard, this was my preferred WR for the NE offense.

That is a highly impressive 3-cone relative to his size and 40. Vert makes a lot of sense as well. Being totally uneducated about this guy, I iniatially drew the simple association of and end zone go git it type. That three cone is very impressive to me and speaks volumes about his ability.

You see a body like that in college and immediately you think he's a body positioning type. I thought that explained most of the production. Give a big guy the arrow/slant option and hit him every time on the off shoulder as dedicated by coverage. I think I missed a major part of his game.

As always, thanks for the insight, and add another player to an already exceptional draft.

Great size, great speed, and he can jump. He's definitely got a chance as a special teamer.

I wouldn't exactly call a 4.58 40 "great speed". But he does seem to possess some intangibles that would certainly make him a viable option to eventually become part of the starting offense.

In general terms, no it isn't. But to run a 4.58 at 6'5", to me that's great. Tall guys are supposed to be slower relative to shorter guys. That's what makes Usain Bolt such an impressive sprinter.

I felt the same. I thought the Pats should have Drafted him. I saw him play and he was terrific. He played through some injuries his senior year and still was productive.

Colson was a 4.53 and Boldin a 4.71. They are usually not caught from behind. Look at this kids 3 cone and that is not bad.

Nyan Boateng's web page is reporting he signed a UDFA contract with NE, there has been no confirmation I've been able to find, but NEPatriotsDraft.com now lists him under New England.

Boateng started out at Florida, but ran into some off-field issues which brought on the wrath of Meyer, he transferred to California where he finished a snake bitten college career, including a broken foot which curtailed his senior season. He's listed as one of the prospects who failed a drug test at the Combine. He had a poor Combine, but did much better at his Pro-Day.

Interesting that New England, which has worked hard to avoid the top athletic outside linebackers in the draft, also opted not to sign some of the more-regarded prospects that went undrafted - even with such a small group on the roster for training camp.

For example:
Lindsey Witten - 6-4.4 250, 4.71, 11.5 sacks - Pittsburgh udfa
Kevin Basped - 6-4.4 258, 4.72, 9.5 sacks - Jets udfa
Brandon Lang - 6-3.6, 266, 4.96, 7.5 sacks - San Diego udfa

All those teams run similar defenses, but have OLB's.
Funny that New England decided not to bring in competition to Crable and Woods - or that their agents couldn't convince New England to give them a shot, where they should have the best chance of making the roster.

Or even that New England didn't use that OT Welch pick on one of the remaining OLB's, just for depth or camp competition.

I made an effort to check them out before the draft and wouldn't have made a very strong effort to sign any of them to contracts. Witten was very stiff in space. Basped came out a year too early, he was consistent in the game I watched - assuming you wanted a player who disappeared for most of the game. Lang was also very stiff in space.

Athletically and physically Mr. Anderson is gifted. But does he have the head to assimilate this offense? That's always the factor. I mean look at what Edelman was able to do his rookie year because he was such a smart offensive player and could pick up on what the offense was trying to accomplish.

I am really glad that they signed Terrence Johnson...CB from California (PA). This guy seems to have the Troy Brown attitude of doing anything it takes to win...Besides being a top notch STer he's a solid CB...He's got a great attitude...when practicing on defense...when taken out of the D, instead of resting on the sideline he's been known to play some offense..always willing to play and do what is needed....
Who knows if he's got a shot at making it...BUT an attitude like that really helps.......
I DO think they may have a few possible diamonds in the rough....Fletcher, Anderson, who knows who else....It may take longer via the PSquad..BUT......it's always interesting to see who will make it past May..June...and who falls by the wayside...

3.24 GPA 2 time MAC all Academic suggests he's book smart.
Getting open against defenses trained to stop him and getting open at least once a game (54 consecutive games w/ reception) also suggest football smarts in his ability to get open.

Your point about Edleman is a good one. Edlemen serves as a superb case study for the Pats. Draft a WR that is smart as heck and who can learn and function in this offense.

Love this move....can't recall who brought this kids YouTube to our attention.....but he seems to have a lot of potential

His combine numbers were OUTSTANDING, and he rushed for nearly 7 yards a carry. Worth a look for sure.
