1st round vs. trade down

I dont understand how anybody can say trade down when you dont know who's going to be on the board at 22 lol. Value Value Value, thats all I hear but we are not a terrible team, if we can get a playmaker at 22 and we will be able to, why trade down to pick up a third rounder? You dont even know whos going to be availbale in the third round. Trading a first for some third rounders is just a stupid idea, especially when we have three goddamn seconds.

All trades are based on risk, you can talk about "playmakers" but you don't know with 100% certainty that they'll be playmakers on the Patriots much less in the NFL. Trading up, down, or simply picking where you're slotted is based on what your team needs and what's available, and all 3 can make sense depending on the circumstances.

IMO trading our first for multiple 3rd rounders doesn't make sense, we have 3 second round picks. Do we really need a fourth second rounder plus a third or two thirds and another 4th? A team like the lions or Rams doesnt need that many 2nd and third rounders. Take a look at the 2007 Giants, they were a team with just as many "holes" as we have this year and they had one of the best drafts in recent memory. Aaron Ross in the first, Steve smith in the second, Jay Alford, Zach Deossi, Kevin Boss, and Ahmad Bradshaw. Were all had in the 3-7th rounds. 6 solid players and a couple of possible future stars in 8 picks. We have 12 picks this year, do we really need more? This is a deep draft and with 3 second rounders and a value spot in the 1st, those saying "trade down! trade down!" need to remember picks like Vollmer, the Pats arent afraid to "reach" on a guy that they feel is their guy. Blindly trading back into the third is really just not a good idea, if you do trade back, you do it like the Pats did last year, 1st to later first, late first to early second and so on.

I'd like to see several small trades back, picking up several extra picks in the 3-6th rounds.
