Re: Lombardi...The Jets want Brandon Marshall

From experience I can tell you Back problems linger with people young or old. But he played through them, also he had a dislocated shoulder and played through that as well. Trust me, he will play well this year with it being a contract year.

I hope you're right.

I know its early, but based on the way he played last year, they are going to be over paying him for years to come, I'm not sure what his #'s are, but I know the 5th spot is Big Money.

right, but the bottom line is that the jets have the opportunity to make some real noise for a couple of years........and in cap hell afterwards........

Marshall's a top 4 receiver?

R. Moss, C. Johnson, A. Johnson, and L. Fitzgerald, just to list 4, all ahead of Marshall, and there are others.

Really Deus? Are you really going to try and tell me Marshall is not one of the best wr's in the NFL? I know he's a total nutcase and that he's an idiot...but, lets be serious here.

Re: Lombardi...The Jets want Brandon Marshall

Where? Show us these reports. At the combine he was 6'2.

I wonder if these "reports" have to do with you trying to cover up the fact that you didn't even know the height of the guy you were saying is to short to be an effective qb.

I wonder if all the other 6'2 guys (Montana, Young, Brees, Mcnabb) had their heights inflated? Btw, if there is so much stat inflation going on, that pertains to the linemen, also.

No there was a lot of talk in the preseason that he was shorter than his listed height. I am not going to go back and look it up. Maybe I was wrong about the 6 feet part, but the talk was real. Believe what you want.

He is a top WR but borderline top five. Moss, AJ, Fitzgerald, Wayne / Smith / Marshall / Megatron.

OK, homerville has officially elimanted the following from even thinking of coming to Foxboro:

Anquan Boldin
Antonio Bryant
Terrell Owens
Brandon Marshall

Now that we here at homerville have officially eliminated everyone on the above list and tossed aside talent like this because everyone feels like we are better off going down a different path, then let's hear it, let's hear your solution of who to put on the other side of Moss that will actually help this team win the division and compete with the likes of Indy, Pitt, Baltimore, the Jets and SD.

Are you going to tell me it's the WR we draft ? Or is there some other magical solution ? It would be one thing if we had an Antonio Gates to feature in our new offense that no longer has Wes, but I have news for everyone: "Antonio ain't walkin thru that door !"

Let's hear it, no one wants talent like Marshall or Owens, so what's your answer ?

That's easy, Riddler. David Patten and Julian Eddleman!!!!'

As you said, who would want an "injury prone" guy like Boldin. Unreal.

The only idea that makes any sense on why the PATS won't pursue Marshall is that perhaps

The PATS know it is going to cost them 15-20 million per year for 4-5 years to resign Brady.
If they make this their top priority as they probably should then maybe there simply isn't any more big dollars available to be shelled out

especially if after the new CBA comes into effect and they reimpose a cap.
If the PATRIOTS resign Brady...they could be tight up against the cap...
and maybe this is why they refuse to touch any talented free agents....

I'm on record as saying I would love to have Marshall, but as Rob pointed out I just can't see BB offering anything more than a 1 year prove it deal, and there is no way that flies BM.

I hope I'm wrong, and we all get a nice surprise of BM on a 4 year 30 mil. deal, but I'm starting to lose hope.

we need to stop signing big $$$ WR's and get back to Solid Defense.

I hope to god Patten isn't on our roster come opening day, or this team has more issues than I had initially thought.

I have a feeling Mr. Brady would take issue with this.

We need to get back to scoring 42-50 points a game, and live with the D we've grown accustomed to IMO.

As I suspected.........

Re: Lombardi...The Jets want Brandon Marshall

Sanchez is great if you limit him. He is a liabilty when you ask him to carry more of the load. The guy completed just over 53% of his passes and had 12 TDs vs. 20 INTs this year.

As for his draft position, by your logic, Sanchez is worse than Ryan Leaf, Alex Smith, David Carr, JaMarcus Russell, and Tim Couch. Draft position means nothing especially with QB who are quite frequently taken far higher than they should because teams are desperate for a franchise player at the position.

As for Jones, yes he wore down at the end of the year. The guy rushed 331 times last year in the regular season (the highest of his career). That doesn't mean that Shonn Green can reproduce that production or provide something close to it.

As for their offensive strategy, yeas after spending a top 5 pick on Sanchez and trading for both Marshall and Edwards, of course the Jets are going to limit Sanchez's passing to under passing a game. Why would spend that much capital on a QB and two WRs and actually pass the ball. Only a homer Pats fan would think the Jets would actually try to pass more than they did in the playoffs after trading for Marshall. They are only acquiring Marshall to be a decoy for the run. Are you serous?!?

You jump to conclusions based on your own ignorant logic. You try to convince yourself that players going to the Jets will make the team worse. It's ridiculous, and that's where the homerism comes in.

There is no way that you can deny that Sanchez will be a better QB than his numbers suggested. Yes he struggled MIGHTILY at times last year, as most rookie QB's do. Peyton Manning had like 28 picks in his rookie year. Just b/c Matt Ryan and Flacco had decent rookie years doesn't mean Sanchez is absolute garbage b/c he had a tough rookie year. He will be better in 2010, and he has the talent to develop into an above average starter at QB. You keep saying Sanchez is best when kept in limit. THAT WAS LAST YEAR. The reigns will be loosened a little more this year. He will most likely be better and more well prepared to read NFL defenses after a year of experience.

Marshall coming to NY would help the development of Sanchez greatly just like Plaxico helped Eli a great deal. Marshall would be a great asset to any team and would make any team better. The Jets aren't going to change their whole offense just to suit Marshall. That's not how it works. The reason they will be able to throw the ball more is because Sanchez will be a better QB than he was last year. A trio of Greene, Washington, and a FA like LT or a mid-late round draftee should suffice behind that line.

You try to spin every Jets acquisition in a negative way. There is no way an objective viewer can say that Cromartie isn't an upgrade over Lito Sheppard. There is no way that anyone can objectively say the acquisition of Marshall by the Jets wouldn't significantly help them. There's always a way to try to convince yourself of something if it's something you want to believe. Let's all keep telling ourselves Marshall to the Jets wouldn't be a big deal and Bodden is better than Asante. It's a joke.

How bout we give Carolina a call about the availability of Steve Smith?

That would work for me.

Thoughts?

Based on this year? He had 12 TDs and 20 INTs and had a record of 2-8 when he passed the ball for 20 times or more. Right now, he wouldn't get much of a contract. He has the potential to get a top 5 contract, but he has a long, long way to go.

As for the Jets not having to pay him top dollar in a new deal, it really doesn't matter if they over the next year or so dole out top contracts for Revis (which will be around $15 million a year himself), Ferguson (could be in the $10-12 million ayear range), and Mangold. Revis' contract will most assurdily be close to what the 5th highest paid QB makes. Nnamdi Asomugha is getting paid $15 million a year. Revis could get as much or more.

"One of the best" is different than "Top 4". I personally think it's safe to say that Marshall's a top 10 receiver. I just don't buy him in the top 4. My personal take on the WR position is that 4 players are above all others, and that's the 4 I listed. After that, it's a bit of a ranking quagmire for the next level.

4 elite WRs in the league, and 3 elite RBs.... those are players you can build your team around. You don't really want to build your team around the 2nd tier, save at the QB position.

Why are we even talking about the Jets acquiring Marshall when they haven't lost anyone of any significant value..
