How many "name" free agents have they signed since Tannenbaum took over? Cro may come cheap, but he's about all they can get under the uncapped year restrictions? And if Cro is so cheap, why is SD dumping him? The skins are well known for grabbing players on a downward trend in their careers and accelerating them out of the league. How are they acting like the Redskins with that move. It's a third-round pick next year and he's only going to make less than $2 million this year.

I am being objective, the Jest may be getting him for the equivalent of a 2010 4th, but stop and think why SD would let him go for so "little?" Ryan may have loved his workout years ago, but the team that's been playing him is giving him away for a reason.I don't understand how people want to call the Cromartie deal bad for the Jets. A 3rd rounder for a guy who has been a #1 CB in the past and will be an excellent #2 across from Revis in press coverage.
Cromartie is better than any CB currently on our roster. We traded a 3rd and a 5th for an old washed up Burgess who didn't really fit in the 3-4. The Jets traded a 3rd for young 25 yeard old CB who has a ton of raw skills/athleticism/playmaking ability and was one of the best CB's in the league in 07.
I mean seriously, be objective. Just b/c it's the Jets people want to say "oh hahha they traded for a terrible guy what a bunch of morons." People here are talking about giving up a 2nd for Richard Marshall. Really? You'd rather give up a 2nd round pick for Marshall than a conditional 3rd for Cromartie? The bias is unbelievable. In no way shape or form does trading a 3rd round pick in 2011 for Cro resemble the Redskins. They didn't sign him to a huge extension, the guy is very cheap for 2010 and a FA after the season, and the likelihood that a 3rd round pick is going to be better than Cro is SLIM. Hell we used a 2nd on Wheatley, and he's not even close to Cromartie.

I think BB just doesn't value paying CBs large amounts of money. He had no problems saying goodbye to first Ty Law (30), then Asante Samuel (26), and now Bodden (28). And he said goodbye to them in their prime years too! I guess he believes he can always just draft replacement corners.
Ok, I can see him saying bye to Ty at 30, but those other guys are in their football primes. BB's message - we don't pay Corners. SORRY.

Just b/c SD traded him doesn't mean the guy sucks or is overrated. Even though Chargers fans might tell you differently, I'm pretty sure one of the driving factors in that trade was that SD felt that Jammer and Cason were a good enough duo to start so they didn't have to break the bank on an extension for Cromartie. Similar to the NHL and MLB, you might as well look into trading the guy if he's going to be an UFA and you don't plan on re-signing him. Get something rather than nothing.
1. He has one year left on his contract and with some of his off-field child-related problems and such, the Chargers don't want to have to sign him long term after the season.
Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the pick can upgrade to a second-rounder depending on Cromartie's playing time and the Jets' performance. No one is disputing Cromartie's freakish natural talent, but Chargers GM A.J. Smith did well to pick up a valuable pick. Between Cromartie's myriad off-field issues and nonchalant on-field attitude, the Jets are taking quite a gamble. Of course, if Cromartie ever gets his head on straight, Rex Ryan's secondary will rise to a new level of dominance.
2. SD feels Cason is ready to start, and is a cheaper alternative for Cro going forward, seeing that he's still on his rookie deal. Might as well get something for Cro while you can before you let him walk as an UFA after the 2010 season.
3.. His teammates supposedly called him out after the non-tackle of Greene. Smith wanted to shake up the locker room and get him out of there and show the team that kind of play is unacceptable.
4. Cromartie complained to coaches about the defensive scheme being too zone-heavy and not enough man to man press coverage with him and Jammer being two good man to man corners. Similar to Adalius *****ing about his role in NE and BB deactivating him.

I think Butler is going to be real good, so I'm not sure I buy that.
Cromartie hasn't bounced back YET, although he could in a big way in the Rex Ryan defensive system.
Will be excellent across from Revis?!? Yes, because every team going to pick on him because they want to avoid Revis is going to make him better. Seriously, when you play opposite a shutdown CB, your job is harder not easier. Playing across from Jammer was far easier because although Jammer is good, people didn't avoid throwing in his direction.
It has nothing to do with the Jets. Look at my posts last week. I thought he sucked last week when the hot rumor was Maroney for Cromartie.
I would rather have Marshall than Cromartie any day. Marshall has been a consistent player. Cromartie had one great, but overrated half of season (he had all ten of his picks in 9 a game stretch in 2007). Cromartie has knocks on him because of attitude and effort. Why would we want a soft, unmotivated, flash in the pan. I am not a huge proponent of going after Marshall, but I would rather have him over Cromartie. Cromartie is all flash over substance.
Exactly! And this is why I'm saying the Pats should explore trading Maroney. They can draft a young stud RB in this draft, then use the pick they get for Maroney for another draft need OR to tender contracts to one of those RFAs that we don't currently have the pick to tender for! OR ... to draft a CB to replace Bodden.
His problems are on the field too. Here is what Rotoworld said about the trade and they aren't biased Pats fans:
Antonio Cromartie
The Chargers couldn't get any value for the guy. They got a 3rd rounder in 2011 and there might not even be football in 2011. They dumped the guy. If Cromartie is this stud, why give him up for a conditional 3rd before free agency even starts?
People didn't want Peppers because he is a stud player most of the time, but has been know to take stretches off. But Cromartie is a stud because he took three and a half years of his four years off.
Lazy and a headcase. And it is a bad thing the Jets picked him up.
He sucks because he has been in the league for four years and he was only good for a 9 game stretch.
The point of "he will be great across from Revis" is that Cromartie is their #2 CB. He was talked about as one of the best CB's in the league two years ago and shutdown Moss completely in 07. The "experts" on NFL Live and such shows are already saying that Revis and Cromartie is the best 1-2 CB combo in the league. It's hard to argue. Cromartie would be the #1 CB on a ton of teams, and currently would be the #1 on the Pats since all we have are Butler Wilhite Spring Wheatley.[/qoute]
Cromartie would be the #1 CB on tons of teams? Are you counting the UFL? Seriously, he wasn't even a good #2 CB the last two years. And if you take Trey Wingo and the NFL Live Crew as the people to point to? Heck line me up across from Revis and we would be the best 1-2 CB combo in the league. The best CB in the league lining up across from anyone is going to make them high on the list.
I'd rather have Cromartie for a 3rd rather than Marshall for a 2nd. Everyone says what does it say about Cromartie that he was available for a conditional 3rd. What does it say about Marshall that the Panthers only placed a 2nd round tender on him? If he was so important they would've chalked up the extra cash and put a 1st on him. And according to that ProFootballFocus site everyone loves to use to proven Bodden is so great, Cromartie had a better year than Marshall. Cromartie was ranked 56th and Marshall 78th. I personally don't think that site is a great reference, but it is used by posters often to help evaluate players.
I really don't want either Marshall or Cromartie, but you aren't really making a strong argument that Cromartie is a great pick up and would start on a lot of teams when you quote a source that says he was the 56th best CB in the league last year. That means by their rankings, there were only six #2 CBs worse than Cromartie. So you are quoting a source that backs up my claim that says Cromartie sucks to prove that Marshall sucks more? Just to show that eventhough I don't want Marshall, he sucks more than Cromartie who sucked last years as a start? Ok, you win. They both suck.
There's just no way to justify a trade of a 3rd and a 5th for Burgess who was washed up and didnt fit the 3-4, and not trading a 3rd for Cromartie, who is his prime, is a cheap replacement for 2010 if Bodden if not retained, and still has a ton of upside.
So the trade for Burgess didn't work out, the Pats should have done an equally bad trade for Cromartie. Great logic. Sorry, no matter how the Burgess trade worked out, it isn't a justification to trade for Cromartie.
Albert Breer says the Patriots were negotiating with Bodden before and through the deadline. Something may still be done to keep him here. But now it looks like Dunta Robinson may soon be signing with the Falcons and that may dictate how much money the Pats will have to pony up to keep him.
Here's hoping that Dunta takes a hometown discount. Apparently, he's from the Atlanta area and just wants to be close to home.

I stated that I don't like those rankings b/c the data is skewed. I was using it as a reference b/c so many people use it to prove Bodden is so good.
Cromartie would be the #1 CB on quite a few teams, I don't even know how you can deny that.
The point of the Burgess comparison: a 3rd for Cromartie is much better value than a 3rd for Burgess.
