Of course, it can't be official until midnight. Of course, teams can't have substantial trade talks until midnight.

2 things:

1) I thought they couldn't trade for someone they they'd be unable to bring in as a FA?

2) Even if this goes through, I'm genuinely not that scared. In fact, I'm kind of relieved. The rumors of Asomugha worried me. But I've never been as sold on Cromartie as everybody else seems to be. Strikes me as a Denver-Bailey-Bly scenario (only taller).

I don't care what the Jets do. We just need to make sure our team is badass, balanced, full of character and disciplined.

It would be stupid if the Chargers traded a stud CB for a conditional 2011 pick, but they only traded Cromartie. They guy has 15 career INTs in four seasons and 10 of them were in one year and that was three seasons ago.

Jets are gambling on his talent. If he plays to his talent, they get a big payoff. If not, they lose a pick.

I wonder what Cromartie will do about a contract, he is supposed to want a new one. That is one of the reasons SD was looking to deal him, along with his off-field issues. The guy already has a bunch of child-support payments to make (something like 6 kids with 5 women), so he needs the money. Maybe the Jets are going to give him a 1-year with a big 2nd year option, prove-it contract like they did Sheppard.

Given his reputation as a partier, it should be interesting to see him unleashed in NY.

Anyway, a conditional second isn't a mid-round pick. It's a high pick.

Jets should have just kept Lito Shepard.

Cromartie is an upgrade over Lito and is a great value even if they give up a 2nd round pick.

This is a tremendous move by the Jets. It will probably go down as the best signing of 2010. New York is losing population, and Cromartie will be able to help reverse this trend.

Look, he's been hurt and mentally not himself (8 children with 7 different women might do that to people), but you can bank on the old Antonio Cromartie re-finding himself in Rex's defense. I guarantee he will be back to his old, ball-hawking ways and this bad news with Revis on the other side.

I tend to agree with many of your anti-homer posts, but this one is just plain ridiculous. Are you serious. Cromartie is far from elite and comes with a boatload of question marks.

My response to this move is BFD. I don't want Cromartie. For the 1000th time, the Pats need to re-sign Bodden. Then we are fine with Springs Butler Wilhite Wheatley and whoever else competing for the other CB position.
