Weakside pass rusher?

Which of the following weakside DE/OLB pass rushers would you prefer, factoring in where they are likely to go in the draft?

I never said what BB would do. I asked what people on the board would prefer.

Sadly, I'm with you on this one. He may draft one but it won't be in

the 1st or 2nd round.

My vote would go to JPP, although Lane has to be mentioned.

The others aren't big enough or good enough against the run IMVHO.

I voted for hughes i think hes a safer pick than kindle. i get all my info from reading this board and i haven't heard sapp mentioned that often.

first Jerry Hughes did not go to texas tech,he went to Texas Christian University.he reminds me of DeMarcus Ware alot.the patriots really need to draft him .with getin him the pass rush will be great again and getin other things to fill in.

Why only list weakside?

I view the weakside and strongside positions as having very different types of players. Roosie Colvin was a good weakside OLB for us. Mike Vrabel and Willie McG were strong side guys.

Guys I would consider on the strongside include Carlos Dunlap, Greg Hardy and Greg Romeus (who just announced he's returning to Pitt). Possibly Brandon Graham and Derrick Morgan should be added, if they aren't pure 4-3 DE's. Jeremy Beal might fit in as well.

Guys I would consider on the weakside include JPP and Austen Lane (both of whom might be able to play both strongside and weakside, but seemed better suited to the weak side to me), Sergio Kindle, Jerry Hughes, Von Miller, Ricky Sapp, Jermaine Cunningham, Brandon Lang, Jason Worilds, and O'Brien Schoefield, among others. Not as big or physical, not quite as strong against the run, not quite as adept at dealing with blockers, stacking and shedding, etc. A bit better in space and in pursuit, perhaps a bit faster off the edge.

I'm sure there's crossover, and there are players I've listed who could probably play both "sides" equally well. But that's the way I've broken it up - I'd like to see ideally 2 DE/OLB pass rushers, with slightly different skill sets, an that categorization works for me. If you want to make a single list, or break all of the DE/OLB prospects up another way, feel free.

My memory has Colvin on the defensive right and Willie/Vrabel on the defensive left. But I can't remember what I had for breakfast, so what do I know.

I really don't consider them strong/weak side since that is determined by the offensive formation...they are just right/left. Traditionally the defensive left has the stronger/bigger rusher (against right-handed QBs) to push the blocker back into the QB's face and prevent the QB from leaking out of the pocket. The rusher from the defensive right is typically a speed/moves guy to make the QB's clock tick a little faster and cause turnovers on sacks. So the differentiation is still valid IMO even though the location of the TE determines the "strong" side.

I like Sapp and JPP but voted for Sapp. He's explosion off the line and great athleticism and speed really catch my eye. Hopefully he can bulk up and still maintain those traits.

Von Miller is my guy. He is really explosive off the line and can beat you with his speed on the outside, but can also turn quickly and change direction to beat you on the inside. Probably needs to add some weight to hold up against the run in the NFL.

Edit: Just saw that Von Miller will return for his senior season. Kindle would be my choice now.
