Wilfork's injury

First of all, they need to change their scheme. I'm just saying, don't be shocked when Wilfork is elsewhere in 2010.

First of all, Belichick isn't changing to a one-gap. I would like to see us go with a one-gap, personally, but it isn't happening. The two-gap is BB's defense. Second of all, I'm not going to be. I've said before that I don't think the Pats will re-sign Wilfork. But it's not going to be a statement on his ability. It will just be a poor move that will be an attempt to save the team some money so they can extend Brady and re-sign one of Mankins or Neal. If you think it will be a statement on Wilfork's ability as a player, then perhaps you would like to explain Asante Samuel (who currently leads his new team in interceptions)?

I completely agree, couldnt agree more

I think Wilfork is good but not worth whatever price tag he wants. I'd rather have that money spent on getting better at LB. Plenty of teams around the NFL are proving you don't have to have a "stud NT". I just feel that re-signing Wilfork isn't going to make this team any better.

When teams run the ball down our throats next year if he isnt resigned, you might rethink that thought.

Wilfork is the most important player on this defense. The reason he gets "driven off the ball sometimes" is that his job is to sumo two guys on the LOS, something that he does with regularity that dwarfs the amount of times those two guys back him up. In this system, he is the best that money can buy because of said ability. With the linebacker position, I would love to see an upgrade over Guyton. But you should remember that, even in this team's heyday, they didnt have stud all-world linebackers at their disposal. They had dependable, hard nosed lunch pail type of guys that came to work to do their job. Now we already have one "stud" type of linebacker in Mayo in there. What we need to do is surround him with those same types of guys in the mold of Bruschi, Johnson, Vrabel, and Colvin.

Probably not because I don't think they're very good at stopping the run right now. Their 17th in the NFL against the run. You really think signing Wilfork to a ton of money is the right thing to do? That money needs to be spread out to get more balanced on defense.

Yes I would do anything in my power to resign Wilfork. He is the most valuable guy on our defense. They're 17th in the league right now with Vince, I dont even want to know what we would be without him. If we dont resign him then that adds another need to our list, a NT

I agree with what you're saying but the Pats have been a victim of their own scheme since 2005. Their options at replacing players on defense are very limited. We see how picky the Pats are at getting LB's and how they constantly favor D-line over everything else. If you can't find guys to run the 2 gap like Wilfork or better yet Ted Washington, you should probably change your scheme. But we both agree that will probably never happen.

I blame 2005 on a stroke suffered by Bruschi in which he was never really the same player afterward. They've preferred D-Line because the D-Line is what is most important in the 3-4. However, this is probably the offseason in which the LB corps gets a significant overhaul. I sincerely hope we find those lunch pail guys that buy into the system the way Cox, Bruschi, and Vrabel did. Get a more reliable ILB next to Mayo and the run defense improves dramatically, IMO.

No way to we let Vince walk without getting something for him. We'll get something for him and spread the talent around our D. Someone is sure to bite on him.

I agree with your assessment of the value of Wilfork to us and to other 3-4 2-gap teams. However, I don't expect the patriots to win a bidding war for Wilfork. I expect that we will put an exclusive rights franchise tag on him to keep him for 2010 while the team tries to develop another NT for 2011.

Yeah I agree with that as well, I dont see the Pats winning a battle with money either. I think if he leaves this team we will see the same thoughts that some people are having now about the loss of Seymour and how valuable he is to the team. I think the loss of Wilfork would be much worse than the loss of Seymour is.

The difference for me is that Wilfork will have played out his contract and played one year beyond. This seems reasonable for a top player and for the team.

With Seymour, we unloaded him with a year left on his contract.

Well, we also got a 1st round and potential top 10 pick for Seymour.

Do you think we should have redone Wilforks deal a few years ago? He is the only first rounder in his class thats still playing with his original contract

Tha attempt was made to extend Wilfork. The team and Wilfork just couldn't make it happen.

With regard to Seymour, we can always give up top players for future top draft choices. So, why didn't we also trade Wilfork for a future choice before this season started? Why didn't we trade Samuel?

Belichick didn't like having Seymour around and got what he could. But make no mistake, the Super Bowl chances of the 2009 patriots took a huge hit when Seymour went out the door.

if wilfork and warren both miss nextweek's game its going to hard stopping jackson and lynch.

Belichick disclosed after the game that he has a sub-dermatomic contusion and will be out until 3:35 PM on Thursday.

Subsequently the Patriots issued a press release correcting Belichick's statement. He is now expected to be out until 3:34 on Thursday.

LOL, pretty literally!

I dont see how you can say that Vince is overrated. Look at what he has done for us this year. Hes played every postion on the DL, and has been forced to play in passing downs when he is normally in there just for running plays. What makes you say that hes overrated? He constantly demands double teams and makes everyone around him better.

Wilfork usually has 1 or 2 bad games per season. What's more, even his good games don't lead to stats.

Obviously, he's little more than a JAG.

The Seymour trade story, as told by BB, was that they first offered Wilfork to the Raiders.
