That leaves the middle thin. Clark cut us up there last year I believe.

thats cuz the guy covering him didnt do very good (although i thought clack only had like 2 catches last game...)

our new guys will prob do better

I agree. But being physical is the key. People noted that Manning had a subpar game against SF, but that was because SF got in his face and rattled him. Knock Manning around and it disrupts his rhythm and timing, even when he's not directly pressured. He'll still get his yards, but it may help out in the red zone, as it did with SF (0 TDs, 86 QB rating). Add an opposing offense actually capable of putting points on the board, and the result may be different than it was in that game.

Not coincidental that was SF's game plan, as their current D coordinator (Manosky?) was Marty Schottenheimer's LB coach in San Diego, when the Chargers had great success against the Colts.

QB12

I think it will primarily be McGowan, but I wouldn't be surprised to see BB shift it around a bit to confuse Manning. I could see Chung, Merwieather, Springs, AD and Guyton all drawing the assignment at times. I do think that we will have someone assigned to specifically target Clark at all times.

Keeping Manning off balance and being physical with him are the 2 keys to keeping him under control. Beat him up, and he's not the same. Rattle him, and he's not the same. Confuse him with different coverages (as we did with Rodney and Ty Law), and he's not the same. Those aren't easy to do, obviously. Let him get into a rhythm (BBDB with no pressure on the QB), and it will be a bloody mess for us.

Agreed. Why be predictable? Nice to have a selection of young, athletic players in the D again. Don't see why Chung would be seeing the field much with the other players we have available. Nothing against him, but we have better, more experienced coverage guys.

McGowan would seem to be the obvious choice. He's done a nice job of several TEs this year. However Clark is hardly a TE. That's why my dark horse candidate is Sean Springs. I think of Clark as being more of a big WR, and that's why I think Springs was brought to the Pats to do. Be physical with the bigger, but slower WRs. So you keep the speed guys, Boddin and Butler, on the WRs. You put Springs on Clark in a lock on technique with McGowan over the top.

He'll be in bracket coverage most of the game. They should put Adalius Thomas on the line in a 4-3 / 3-4 under look just to jam him on pass releases.

does it really matter who "tries" to stop clark? because if it does, then either collie or garcon, or even addai will step up...

oddly enough in 2007 every thought thomas would play an active role in defending clark and he hardly played much in that game.

BB knows you cannot stop everyone. It's a question of "who do you take your chances with?" The Pats will take their chances with Garcon or Collie in single coverage rather than Clark. Garcon or Collie *may* kill the Pats. Clark *will*.

Regards,
Chris

I expect double coverage in many cases. It is Premature to throw a number out there w/o knowing possession time and turnovers etc...

you have to fight a much harder battle in COVERAGE...

Moss, Welker, Watson, Aiken, Tate, passes to Maroney.

I do not know what to expect in the PATS run game.

They're not going to be in single coverage. My guess is we play the entire game in the dime.

How will you react to this reality?

Why don't we just get the same guy Tonya Harding used? A good quick pipe to the knee should do the trick.
