Can I say it now? Vollmer is our new LT!

If you don't think Vollmer will have a nightmare with trying to stop Freeney from Mauling Brady if Light is still out by then, you have more confidence than I do - Vollmer will need help and have his hands full in a few weeks in keeping Freeney's spin move from dominating the left side.

Ouch great point... I hadn't even though of that! If Big V aces the Freeney test, then we can start thinking about whether Light should start when he is healthy.

I thought Vollmer's performance against Tampa was definitely worse than his game against Tenn. I'm not sure why the hype would build on him after he had 2 holding calls and let up a sack as well. He's solid right now, and with experience hopefully will become starter and pro bowler.

It's premature. Light was having a pretty darn good year until he went down. Vollmer is an outstanding prospect, but he has not surpassed Light - yet.

Vollmer was a bit shaky yesteday.

but at worst he is the starting RT so will play when light come's back if it's RT or LT we will see

Why do you say that. What has Kascur done that would lose him HIS job. Since the Pats chose to extend him, clearly the Pats think a lot higher of him than you do....and that might be a good thing.

Just an FYI, Vollmer went up against Kyle Vanden Bosch who is having a miserable year (18 tackles, no sacks) and Stylez White who is a JAG (21 tackles and 1.5 sacks and the half sack was on Brady). It isn't like he went up against Dwight Freeney, Jason Taylor, or Aaron Schobel who are guys who give Light trouble.

This. :snob:

It could certainly be the reason. Doesn't change the fact that he was abused by a mediocre d-lineman. It does give him an excuse though.

No, it means that him getting beat by a mediocre lineman probably doesn't mean anything. It means he shouldn't have been on the field. I don't understand why you put Levoir on the 45 and then don't play him when Vollmer gets hurt.

In a word YES...Though what you said about Volmer's POTENTIAL is true, the VERY brief snapshot of his career thus far, gives us too little.info to make an informed judgment. Using your criteria of 2 games, I might say that Volmer is injury prone and gets too many penalties. Sounds stupid doesn't it. Well to a certain extent so does your overreaction to the fact Volmer didn't suck in his NFL action.

Ok some of you are not convinced yet. I can see that. I'd like to see what he can do against the upcoming gauntlet of the Dolphins/Colts/Jets. If he passes with flying colors, I'd say there's really not much of an argument left against Vollmer.

The Pats rookie draft has looked fantastic thus far though. Butler looks like a potential starter. Vollmer is starting at LT and looks like he has the potential to keep that spot if he can keep playing well.

Chung has shown some flashes. Edelman looked good until he got hurt. Pryor has seen snaps. Chung has seen snaps and has contributed. Even Tate got involved with that end around play in the Bucs game and snagged a few kicks. The only guy I really haven't seen much of is Brace.

This is probably the best draft the Pats have ever had in a year without a 1st round pick.

i dont think he has done anything to lose he's job but its will known that the best tackel play's LT

and if they put a rookie to take light's place and not kascur maybe they think less of him then i do

Actually, those guys dont give Light trouble, or at least less than they give everyone else.
Light has stoned Freeney for years now, and the sack numbers of these 3 vs Light are clearly inferior to their numbers vs the league.
If I can find it I'll dig up the post it was in when I looked it up.

I agree it probably doesn't mean anything although it depends on the injury and if it is the type of injury he should be able to play through. My point is though that his play hasn't shown he is ready to take the starting LT job even if Light is healthy.

I don't think Kaczur has been bad but he has not been dominant either,Kaczur has had a few huccups along the way and I don't see any problem with mixing Vollmer and Kaczur at RT if Kaczur has problems down the road and Light is back at LT again.

Or, they figured that weakening two positions by putting Kazcur at Left and Vollmer at right is worse than just weakening Left. Its easier to give Vollmer TE help than it is to give both tackles help.

Or, they figure Light will be back in a couple weeks and theres no reason to screw up Kazcur's mechanics and footwork.

Well if your conclusion is he hasn't sucked against weak competition so if he has 3 good games the first time he faces good competition, then everyones opinion should change, I would agree.
I dont know how that puts us any further than we were the play after Light was injured though.

Very encouraged that Chung is seeing more time...

Because despite the fact that the Titans and Bucs suck, they still have NFL quality defensive ends, and Vollmer has shown he can handle them. He hasn't proven he can deal with the elite, but he has proven he can deal with the bulk of the league. Vanden Bosh is good.

He could have come out and looked like the tackle Philly put against the Giants last year when Runyan (?) got hurt.

You may be right about Freeney. Schobel is Light's biggest nightmare (and Brady for that matter) since he has sacked Brady more than any player. Light and Taylor have a Jeckyl and Hyde relationship. Some games, Taylor absolutely owns Light and is all over Brady and others he is invisible.

While I think it is way too early to consider Vollmer our starting LT, I do think that it should be pointed out that Vollmer is a rookie second round draft pick (that most experts panned us for overdrafting by 3 rounds or more) that has stepped in and out performed most expectations thus far.

I think this speaks volumes to BB's philosophy of drafting players that fit your system regardless of how others see them.

In college Vollmer played in a zone blocking scheme and excelled.

Maybe after an offseason in Woicik and Dante will get Vollmer should be stronger, quicker and ready for major playing time at LOT.

Having seasoned vets in front of you in back to back weeks in Jason Taylor and Dwight Freeney will either transform Vollmer into aman at the position or a boy getting his ass beat

Major SeaBass fan here. Love the pick. Love the results so far. However, you need to look not at physical tools (Bethel Johnson, Chad Jackson, etc. say Hi!) but at results. Albeit slightly injured, SeBass struggled against a JAG Sunday. He's played nobody. Light has protected Brady from the best.

The reason I keep harping on the injury is that he was absolutely dominant until he came up hobbling. He quickly got beat right after that.

That, and he was absolutely great on the screen plays they were running.
