Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher's season is over after wrist injury - ESPN Chicago

Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery to repair a dislocated right wrist -- a major blow for a team with high expectations.

Team spokesman Jim Christman confirmed a Chicago Tribune report, saying, "Brian did have surgery this morning and he is out for the remainder of the season." Urlacher had said in a text message to the newspaper that his "season is over."

Urlacher apparently was injured in the first quarter of Sunday night's 21-15 loss at Green Bay making a tackle on Packers running back Ryan Grant. He left on the Packers' first drive of the second half.

Wow, since when is dislocating a wrist a season-ender?

Yea no kidding - that just seems really unlucky. I've always liked Urlacher - especially when he's getting juked out of his jockstrap by Tom Brady :)

He must have torn or damaged some of the ligaments and nerves, maybe even the blood vessels running through the area. :(

It's too bad. I've always respected his skills as a player. He's a terror on the field, and a pretty decent fellow off of it from what I've read.

When healthy he is one of the greatest LBs in the league if not the best - Thats a darn shame.

He was a shoo-in for the HOF without the injury bug

Heard this earlier in the day, too bad.. but injuries are part of the game.

What are the symptoms of a dislocated wrist?

* Extreme pain at the time of the injury that continues
* Loss of wrist and hand mobility
* The wrist bones may actually be contorted or otherwise deformed upon inspection.
* Tenderness around the wrist and hand area.
* Swelling is usually immediate
* When the hand is used numbness is experienced.

How do you treat a dislocated wrist? If the injury isn't that severe the wrist bones may align themselves properly with time to heal. You should also incorporate rest, ice, compression and elevation to increase the chances of healing.

In extreme cases surgery is called for. The surgeon opens the hand and wrist area to align the bones properly. If there is major damage other devices such as surgical screws may be used.

How you recover from a dislocated wrist? Physical therapy is usually called for, including exercises designed to build up the muscles in the wrist and hand.

Too bad really....hate to see anybody get hurt like that and miss significant time, but really.....not any sympathy for the Bears.....I don't think any team ever took a single player injury hit like the Pats last year with Brady...both in the timing and the significance.

The Bears just have to suck it up and play on....and I'm sure they will. It will hurt their chances though....for sure in tough division with the Packers and Vikings.

May be 'part of the game' but injuries especially to top echelon players are the part I hate. I like to watch the very best out there competing and puting on a show. Ironically, shorty before the injury Collinsworth mentioned that this was a great season for Da Bayuz because for the 1st time in years, Ur was free of injury and ready to go.

Too bad indeed. I love Urlacher, and my brother is pissed (He's a Bears fan). It was nice to see him flatten Rodgers though... That guy can HIT.. just can't manage to track the slowest QB in the league hah

Tough break for Urlacher (pun intended), he is really going to leave a hole in that Bears defense. Gee and Cutler looked so good yesterday. I sure that McDanils is in tears over this (Denver has the Bears 1st rd pick next year).

They did a segment on him before the game, and he indicated he felt pain free and stronger than he had felt in a long time after participating in the complete offseason conditioning program.

All I could think at the time was way to jinx the guy by asking him about his present state of good health.

lol i was thinking the same thing they are going to jinx him lol

He's a warrior and a throwback to the days of Chuck Bednarik. That's sad, even moreso since he was coming off a series of injuries the last year or so. I hope he recovers fully and comes back next year. Respect.

Figured I'd say it before somebody else did.
