thigpen looked damn good at times last year
i'd bet it's him or croyle
I see a lot of posts talking about O'Connell being a 3rd round pick and what a shame about that.
I dont think that BB gives any concern to where a guy is drafted in regards to evaluating him. O'Connell was a 3rd round pick, so what? I think BB looks at what the guy does in practice and in the games and makes his decisions based on that.
In fact, if there were two guys that were battling for one spot, and only one could make it, BB would probably go with the lower round pick since that guy would likely have a lower salary.

It's fair to say that whichever scout thought this guy was good has been "spoken to". One of the things I remember reading at the time of his being drafted was that his accuracy wasn't great. I assumed the reports were wrong, because he had been drafted in the 3rd round.
Very surprising stuff.
Pioli is trying to get rid of Thigpen. That, combined with the reality that he's a bad quarterback, should be enough to make people understand.
That's the problem with second guessing the front office. They make decisions based heavily on how a guy responds to coaching and if he is improving or not, and all the things that go on in meetings and practices.Yes, it is. I thought he looked absolutely terrible, but I'm shocked they didn't give him another year. I wonder if there is something behind the scenes (attitude or off-field) in addition to his performance. BB was more patient with Cassel and Gutierrez, so I wonder if KOC had some specific issue that made the team lose patience and give up on him early.
Okay, if you are going to sign a better QB, why cut anyone until you sign the guy. And if you do cut a QB, why KOC and not Hoyer?.......think for a moment......this may not be about KOC.If it's Brady, then they're looking for a number ONE QB,not a back-up.
If so,I'm thinking Jay Feeley or Jeff Garcia.

That had to mean they see more fuiture in Hoyer than KOC. That is the astounding part.
Heck, for that matter, why cut ANYONE today? IIRC, the Patriots aren't even at 80 players, and they don't have to be at 75 until Tuesday.
Obviously you do not understand the rules around here.Wheatley was coming on last season before his injury and Crable is recovering from season ending injury. I wouldn't go bemoaning that draft right now.

According to Jason La Canfora, we are expressing interest in AJ Feeley.

Why would he sign with our practice squad? If some team cut me and tossed my nice salary into the toilet, you think I'd help them out by agreeing to practice with them for $5000 a week? I'd sign with anyone else BUT them.It could be they simply made a decision to go with 2 QBs only on the roster and one on the PS and Walter is the more experienced, better option right now as #2. By releasing O'Connell now, you may dupe other teams into thinking the Pats are even more down on him than they really are (as opposed to releasing him on the final cut) and perhaps you could sneak him onto the PS still.
Just a thought.
