Re: Shula :"What's (Bill) Belichick got?" About a hundred ?"

Maybe it was a good spirited joke. Or maybe Shula's an old senile douche-bag. Or a little of both.

indeed, could be just a joke

Its a competitive joke/jibe, a bit of both. Thats what it is to be competitive, its great to see that he is still like that even at his great age. The man wasn't having a go at BB, the fact that he is the only coach he mentions shows that he rates him very highly.

Respect goes both way alright, and any fool berating a man with his longevity in coaching, and life is not worthy of any respect.

What did he do, cure cancer? Of all the people in the world, miserable old man Shula is the one off limits? Maybe you need to expand your horizons a little bit.

Hear, hear.

After what he said about Bill & the Pats during CameraGate & the perfect (regular) season, Don Shula can eff himself until he dies.

Expand my horizons? Really? Like say visit other countries such as Austrailia, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, Israel, Egypt, South Africa, Ethiopia, Tunisia, pretty much all of Europe, Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Chile, Venezuela, Mexico, Canada. Or do you mean compete in and/or know about other sports outside the big four such as rugby union, rugby league, soccer, tennis, golf, aussie rules, speedway, moto gp, formula one, nascar. Or do we have to go further and know all about war and history, politics, music, flim, art, medicine?

What exactly is your point?

My point is that a 79 year old man who just visited the troops out in Afghanistan and Iraq, a man who played football and went on to coach two superbowl winning teams deserves respect. The man is a living legend, I despise the Dolphins but you have to respect the greats like Shula, Marino, Griese et al. I just don't see why people have to attack a great man in football like Don Shula. Surely being fans of the most successful team this decade and possibly the most successful team ever, when its all said and done for BB, we should never lower ourselves to disrespecting other greats. We shoud understand better than others just how much respect a successful coach deserves, we waited long enough to get here. Leave that rubbish to the fans of teams like the Jets, Bills etc.

This guy gets it.

His point is that you apparently you have a blind spot for Shula, and for some reason think very highly of the comments he made concerning the Pats videotaping the Jets and his derogatory comments about BB.

If your horizons were expanded just a bit, you might realize that all you can do is take him at his word. The words were insulting. Unnecessarily insulting to a man in the same profession who has shown himself to be a decent coach. It is only when you are blinded by Shula-love that you believe you know what he was thinking and what his intent was.

I met Shula in his prime...he's arrogant...nothing wrong with that

Hey Armchair didnt think you were posting in a Don Shula message board did you. Don shula has crapped on the Pats more than any one ever, he is not a great or even a good man he is a douche. Hes a slimeball who has done no good in this world, to hell with him.

nah...let me expand my point....I FED his whole team before the Patriots game back in the day...BY FAR the Dolphins were the smallest team I ever saw...I always hated the Phins with a vengeance...BUT...he actually took the time to show me THE RING...yeah...he's arrogant...the Phins won that week too, decidely...but the Rams, who I also took care of, were TWICE the Phins size and THEY LOST. Shula never suspected a BB would come along and flip the dynamics, but try to understand, Shula has ALWAYS known how passionate we as fans are, he just never thought NE would ever get a managemaent team capapble of turning our small market presence around. So enjoy the bitter old man act...he was asked how to deal with a BB team and the fact is...HE CAN'T

shula is an a-hole. just because someone won a lot of games or has had a lot of success in a line of work does not mean you should show them respect when they are being an a-hole.

We are not talking about his comments back then, we are talking about a man who says something pretty innocent about his wins and the best coach in the league today. He didn't mention anything about videotaping in that interview. Spygate is over, lets forget about it, a lot of people said things then but its old hat now.

I'm not blinded by anything, I am not a fan of Shula but I do respect what he has done in the game, and I have great respect for a man of his age going out to visit the troops.
Why do you guys have to hate on him is what I want to know?

I just don't get it. We are successful, we all know who the best coach is. We don't need to be pathetic haters. Lets just bask in the glow of being the best team in the NFL with the best coach in the NFL and the greatest QB in the NFL.

You ain't from NE are you...THIS is what we do...jeezus, I pathologically hate Francona but the need to complain is inbred.

Shoes was a great NFL coach...he left the game because it changed. His teams were NEVER physically overwhelming, but his players had ice in their veins.I lived through it...the killer B's, the damned Bounoconti defection, the seamless backup QB taking them to the Bowl. Those teams KNEW they were smarter than everybody else.
Sound familiar???

I've hated the Tuna since he left us, I've hated every current coach that has beaten us. As soon as they retire though I'll re-evaluate it. Like for instance Tony Dungy. I despised the man up until his retirement, now I gotta say he was a great coach and I respect him for what he has done in the game. Sometimes it takes a couple of years and with one or two like the tuna it would be hard to ever get over it. But at the end of the day the only thing that matters is that the Patriots remain the top team in he NFL.

Its the same with other sports too, I still can't bear the sight of Joe Torre.

I agree with you that New Zealand is a wonderful place.

You are a very funny Pat. You say so much without saying too much at all.
