Re: DAM ... Belichick must be a HUGE Riaders fan ?

Regret .... Actually, None.

Lets say there is a WEE bit of animosty over the TuckRule/SnowJob game.
please take note of the frames at .58 & .59 seconds.

Go away troll, it's a good day for Patriot fans.

re: Pats acquire DE/OLB Derrick Burgess for draft pick

How many years are left on his contract?

This is obviiously a fine pickup for very little. We have FOUR day one picks in 2010!

We cut Redd because he wasn't good enough to complete the OLB group of Thomas-Woods-BantaCain-Crable.
We signed Burgess.

This is clearly a major upgrade at OLB.

Now Crable's development will be much less critical in 2009.
This is the last year of his contract; he's a free agent in 2010.

He'll make $3.5 million this year.

So then how do you feel about '76?

re: Pats acquire DE/OLB Derrick Burgess for draft pick

I'd like to hear Burgess' reaction to the trade.

"You've just been dealt from a perennial bottom feeding team to a team that contends for the superbowl every year and looks particularly stacked this year, how do you feel bout that Derrick?"

re: Pats acquire DE/OLB Derrick Burgess for draft pick

i like this deal a lot. Whether it's a 3rd, 4th, or whatever, it does'nt matter much to me.
The time is now, our window of oppotunity may not last forever.
I think this settles the pass rush issue, and that was our biggest hole IMO.

re: Pats acquire DE/OLB Derrick Burgess for draft pick

I figured it was a 4th and a new jump suit.

Naw, Belichick has to change his diaper in 2011.

re: Pats acquire DE/OLB Derrick Burgess for draft pick

Great move. Makes this upcoming season even more exciting. Just covered the only real discernible hole in the roster.

re: Pats acquire DE/OLB Derrick Burgess for draft pick

Can he play OLB? For what it's worth...

As for concerns about Burgess's ability to function as a 3-4 outside linebacker, they were dismissed by former Oakland defensive line coach Keith Millard.

Millard, who coached Burgess the past four seasons in Oakland, said the Raiders had a package under former defensive coordinator (and one-time Patriots linebackers coach) Rob Ryan that used Burgess as a 3-4 outside linebacker.

"I think he could make the transformation to outside linebacker because he did that in our 3-4 package," said Millard. "We called it 'Joker.' We used it a lot, especially in the red zone. I really believe he can do it."

Me too.

Burgess: "I'm excited to get a chance to play for the best football mind in the game and possibly win a SB. I'm coming to a team with a lot of veteran leadership, and I hope to be part of a winning culture at this stage in my career. Money doesn't matter as much as winning."

Is this realistic, no. However, I can hope that's his attitude.

"I wanna get paid."

re: Pats acquire DE/OLB Derrick Burgess for draft pick

Big diffrence between playing it in a package in the red zone for the worst team in the league (and not in a 2gap) and starting for the SB favorites.

And coming in relatively late in the game. I'm guardedly hopeful.

re: Pats acquire DE/OLB Derrick Burgess for draft pick

under lane kiffin?

I didnt know pride depended on other people around you.
If Burgess didnt care because it was the Raiders and didnt have any pride in his own performance becuase Lane Kiffin was the coach, send him back.
I know thats not the case, but you are trying to make excuses for his production and implying much worse things about his character.

I don't think anyone here is saying Burgess is a starter. (At least I'm not.)

Seems like most expect him to be a situational pass rusher, either as a 3-4 OLB or a 4-3 DE depending on the formation. Was the price high for a situational player?

If you're the Lions or the Browns, with no real 2009 SB aspirations, probably; but if you're the 2009 SB favorites and your only perceived weakness is the pass rush, it's a no brainer.

I'm thrilled, but my expectations are only that he plays DE in sub packages, does a good job rushing the passer, and any snaps he gets in the base are extra.

That's why I said for what it's worth. I don't think he needs to start at olb to make a significant impact. We'll see what happens.

He's certainly no Monty Beisel when it comes to tackling.

I am Patsylicious, and I approve of this deal
