Summary:
-Do you think this is a deeper draft?
BelichicK: I'm not going to argue with Mayock on this one--> (not a lot of talent up high, etc.)
-Lots of rumors that you're tryting to trade into top 10.
Belichick: The chances of us being in the top 10 this year are less than zero. Who would I be trading up for? You don't like anyone up there either.
-What are the odds of trading down?
Belichick: The odds are good. We've had lots of inquiries on 23, 34, 47- preliminary talks, but we're very interested. We've moved those picks in the past, and we're not opposed to doing that.
-You were just down in Florida with Gruden, which one of you guys gave up fewer secrets?
Belichick: Gruden gave the best clinic speech I've ever heard. I'd like a copy of it, really.
-he last 5 years, you've traded around 11 times. What's your philosophy on draft day? Need, highest player available, etc.
Belichick: Highest-rated player available. We have needs everywhere every year, so we always take the best player available in positions where multiple guys can play. We always take the best player that we can get for our system. We understand that some players are better for our system than others and vice versa.
-With Brady coming back and the vets you've added, you must be really excited
Belichick: We acquired a lot of players with a lot of energy and experience. We're excited to get started with practices, I don't know exactly how it will go and what the roles will be, but I'm excited and have a lot of respect for our new acquisitions.
-Were you surprised by the tug of war over Matt Cassel over the past few weeks w/ Pioli/McDaniels?
Belichick: In the end, I think that KC got a very good football player, and everyone's trying to move on, get their player, and make their teams better. When you trade a player and get a draft pick, and vice versa, that's an opportunity to build your team and make it better.
Mariucci, Gruden, and Mayock are now tripping over themselves to see who can compliment Belichick the most. I'm sure Patriots-haters are loving this. Mariucci and Gruden both stated that the Pats are going to win more SBs under Belichick.
