We all know BB surprises us on draft day but is it possible he doesn't go LB in the first 2 rounds? I really woudn't mind if we drafted two LB's.
If he took DB/DL/OL in the first 2 rounds would we be better if the players are solid picks? I assume he trades back one of the 2nd rounders.
Maybe one player falls he feels he can't pass on.
Would you be disappointed?

Certainly, and it wouldn't be much of a surprise.

I could see him taking a tight end that played defensive end his senior year.

BOR "Certainly, and it wouldn't be much of a surprise."

OK . I know I would be very surprised.
I thought you really liked and wanted us to take Connor Barwin.

Nothing BB does should surprise us. I don't think it's particularly likely, but if he doesn't like the players available and doesn't think there's value at LB then he won't hesitate to pass on the 1st day.

Fortunately, we can still pass on LB and take a nice looking former TE from Cincinnati in the 2nd round.

I wouldn't be surprised at anything at all that we did. There have been many other times and examples on this team, that BB did what he thought was best.
Bledsoe--Brady, keeping Cassel vs. getting a vet, cutting Milloy, some of the past drafts etc.

Seriously, the only way I'd be surprised at anything is if we went with a punter with #23--and even then it'd only be for a few minutes. BB may think we're fine at LB, who knows? Or he may draft a couple later on instead.

Sorry--Mayo, was typing when you posted same thing right before me

Love your name Mayoclinic
Ok I get it now. So; what makes Barwin a solid pick for us. Seems like most like him.

I wouldn't be surprised at all. How many years did we think we would take a LB 3-4yeas and we never did except in the late rnds. BB may think that a combination of Colvin Crable and Woods is enough.

It wouldnt surprise me at all! Theres alot of depth at LB. If we dont grab any in the first day. heres what LB's i would be happy with on day 2.

ILB- Frantz Joseph projected 5-6th rounder
ILB- Darry Beckwith projected 3rd rounder
ILB- Jasper Brinkley projected 3rd rounder

OLB-Cody Brown 3rd rounder
OLB-Lee Robinson 5-6 rounder
OLB-Jason Williams 3-4 rounder

I do, with the information available to us as fans, Barwin looks to be the best prospect to be an all-round OLB with a decent speed rush and added positional/STs value. None of the other projected late first round prospects appear to offer the value I think he has. You'll notice others disagree and there's nothing to say BB hasn't got another preference. There's no telling who might slide down as the top teams rush after OT and QB, so my preference or anybody else's means nothing inside the NE draft room.

Nothing BB does surprises me, waiting for the next BB WTF moment.. maybe tomorrow, maybe in June..

I am expecting that BB will suprise us. I know whatever he doesn will be better than any idea I have had...

While we are crazyfor a LB or 2 he had seen Crable, Redd, Guyton & Woods in practice and knows what their ceiling is in our system. He knows what he need to do to strengthen the team.

I agree, but I don't see it happening, since there are some pretty solid LBs in this draft and there should be a value pick in the second round.

The only thing that would surprise me is a QB in the first round. Oh, also LS, P or K would be a surprise.

The next most surprising thing would be if he picks one of my binkies. Chris Long was my guy last year, Mike Griffin in 2007, Bobby Carpenter in 2006, Corey Webster in 2005, Michael Clayton and Teddy Lehman in 2004, Jonathan Sullivan and Larry Johnson in 2003.

For the record, my guys this year are Laurinaitis and English. That makes it an almost certainty that he's going to take a RB or OT at the top.

I really want a Young Fast Skilled Smart Defense. I could see it as long as we get Butler or Jenkins.

Belichick keeps us all guessing. And no, it would not surprise me at all -- here's why:

A worthy exercise would be to list one non-LB Pats prospect for each of our first four picks. You'll then see how easy it is to not draft a LB in the first two rounds:

#23 CB - Darius Butler
#34 OG/C - Eric Wood
#47 S - Patrick Chung
#58 QB/WR - Patrick White

Not a bad first day I'd say, and perhaps NE will target a LB early on day two. The following LB prospects are all projected from round 3:

Cody Brown/Jason Williams/Lawrence Sidbury/Jasper Brinkley

Wouldn't surprise me if BB did not take a LB in the entire draft never mind first round. Last years take of (5) Lb's ( Mayo, Guyton, Redd, Ruud, and Crable ) on draft day may have him spending the picks elsewhere.

In addition to the ones you mentioned I could add:

23 - Malcolm Jenkins, CB/S
34 - William Beatty, OT (or Donald Brown, RB)
47 - Jarren Gilbert, DE
58 - James Casey, TE

Not to mention Hakeem Nicks WR, Louis Delmas S, Sean Smith CB/S, William Moore S, Alex Mack OG/C, Ziggy Hood DT/DE, and Knowshon Moreno RB. All terrific prospects.

Box,

In my ideal draft, I would have taken all the early picks. This draft has maybe 40 First round picks in it. Why wait a year for a second to become a first, when you can get the equivalent this year without waiting? My picks would be:

Willian Beatty LOT @23
James Laurainitis ILB @ 34
Connor Barwin/Larry English @ OLB 47
Ron Brace NT @ 58

And then then the best remaining Safety @ 3
From among Chung, Vaughn or Moore

And then Pat White QB/TB/S with the compensatory pick @ 3

I would hope to pick up Tidbury, Unger, a RB, and Tom Morestead P from the dregs.

My thinking is if you can draft a future LOT take him. There is an oppening for an ILB right now. And rookies can start there, take a good one.

There are several developmental DE--> OLB conversions going on, and I don't know the status of any. Barwin or any rookie will just be beginning a multi-year conversion/development. Tedy took 3-4 years, likewise TBC; Woods has taken 3 years+, Crabel and Redd are 1 year in; and the draftee would just be starting year 0. Get the talent, but don't count on it, for this year.

Ditto for the reserve NT; when you find a good one, take him. They are rare. Then take a reserve S.

Pat White willl probably never be a starting QB; but he might well be a quality backup QB, and the best of this terrible bunch; and occasional Single Wing tailback, triple threat. And if that doesn't work, a pretty good S or WR.

The others are just guesses.

No I would not be surprised to see BB load up on linemen. But I'd like to get one defensive starter this year too; and ILB is where he can come in and play.

Beside have you noticed that BB cleared up all his possible holes with vet pickups, elsewhere. He did NOT load up on vet LBs. An Indication perhaps??
