How do you rate McDaniels as a head coach so far?

Seems like some of the bloom is off the rose given what appears to be a mishandling of the Cutler situation.... might be an indication that he's just too young to be in such a position.

Still, as much as I felt his inexperience could hurt him in just this sort of way, I have a tough time heaping all the blame on him given the Cutler situation. It's a two way street and I don't think Cutler's done such a hot job handling himself either.

We shall see.

The latest mis-handling of Jay Cutler is another example of the immaturity and lack of situational awareness that McDaniels displayed multiple seasons as an offensive coordinator. He has a certain arrogance and complete lack of qualitative sense that is a major flaw he needs to overcome as he gets more experience.

Cutler is definitely a whiny crybaby, but none of the current fiasco would have ever happened had McDaniels not considered a trade and told his GM to at least consider a move for Cassel. The GM did not act alone on this one.

If Cutler ends up on another team's roster

I would rate him pretty well at this point, it's still early in the pre-season and he quickly outed Cutler as an egotistical drama queen, if Cutler doesn't show up to the voluntary work out on Monday he'll likely be gone. You cut out the cancer as soon as possible, why wait until later to deal with Cutler if it's likely that he'll be a problem?

McDaniels is familiar with Cassell and can probably utilize him more effectively than he can Cutler, making that trade would be good for the Broncos.

Play hasn't even started yet so I have no opinion. The fact he's ruffled the feathers a bit doesn't bother me at all, infact I quite like it. Thats his job and a message has been sent out to the rest of the players.

The way it gets painted as a mistake to think about trading Cutler is wrong. Cutler thinks he owns the place and Josh has to get rid of that right away. So far it looks like he's doing just that. McDaniels has put the spotlight on Cutler, Cutler will either leave or accept who the boss is, grow some balls and get to work.

It may work out that Denver may end up with an average QB for this season but I'd rather manage players who can be worked with rather than cancers who can't.

I'd rate him as someone who got caught with his pants down at his ankles. I've never seen a situation handled so poorly by a coach and qb ever. Volumes of immaturity on both sides here.
I am starting to believe the rumors about Cutler wanting out of Denver from the get go. Personally I hope he stays. I want to watch and enjoy this young relationship grow lol.

I wonder how people would rate Pioli if he turns around and trades Cassel a few weeks after trading for him?

It would be amusing but where is the Chiefs biggest need? I can't answer that question, I don't follow them, but they could very well be more effective by using that trade to address some higher priority areas and sign a serviceable QB than by keeping a stud QB like Cassell with significant weak areas elsewhere on the team.

I think Cutler's future with the Broncos will be determined by what he does, or doesn't do, this week in the Broncos voluntary training.

i wonder how the new gm is escaping any culpability. players play, coaches coach and gm's make trades.

as far as mcdaniels, i haven't seen any coaching yet so he gets an inc., though i thought he needed a little more seasoning before becoming a hc.

It's too early to rate Josh, IMO. Cutler seems like the big baby here. He's the one putting his house on the market and talking to the media about how poorly he's being treated. Has Josh said anything to the media? I don't think so, but I've been out of the loop. I don't think you can blame Josh for Cutler's actions. I wouldn't want him to lead my team either. Although, the timing on the play for Cassel (if it was real) was way off. But as someone else pointed out, that is more the GM's fault.
