For some reason they don't finish the season, NFLDraftScout will always have something more to report - for example, that site has Barwin with 6 PD, but NFLDraftScout and other outlets report 7. Still, it's great one stop shopping.

Box, PATSNUTme: I found this picture of the two of you, but who's who?

Oh man, all these years I've gone without an avatar, but...

Congrats in finally choosing one!

Here is a little movie mad for you to celebrate.

Thanks, I've missed your cinematic extravaganzas!

Since I'm not going to find out about the draft results until the day after, it's all going to hit me at once and without social support. It's not hard to picture myself like that teary fellow, curling up in a corner bawling "they traded up for Cushing??!!!"

Funny how Larry English has fallen out of this conversation since the combine. Anyone watch David Veikune of Hawaii play this year? Good bench press, so-so speed.

Barwin, don't like Matthews

According to The Sporting News Draft Guide, Barwin had a lot of trouble againts the run as a DE. It makes you wonder how he will do setting the edge as a OLB.

They rank him #96 on their big Board, which I agree is low. I'd rank him 95th!

I had to really think about it On the real tho they're both binky-worthy, I'm just having a hard time finding a downside to B-man

I love his versatility for the Pats, I love his lack of an injury history, he's a big boy, he sounds intelligent and well-spoken, he did well at the combine...I dunno, what's not to like.

My only fear is that someone else (like Miami) will scoff him up, in which case I'll have to dig up a negative just to make myself feel better.

His hearing issue could be a positive in noisy stadiums; from his interview it sounds as though he's compensated for any difficulty with better peripheral vision, careful lip reading, etc, all stuff that could become assets in many circumstances.

Anyway he's my choice; there's just too much to like and not enough to dislike.

How can Miami scoff him up? they draft after us

I say we trade up for Maualuga

1) First of all -- define binky.

2) I don't want either one at #23.

3) I'd take Barwin over Matthews but refer to #2.

I tend to think you could throw a blanket over all these OLB guys in the lower 1st and top 2nd .. so why not look elsewhere (i.e Beatty at OT) and then pick up a S (Delmas, Moore or Chung), an OLB (Barwin, English, Sintim) and a WR in the 2nd?

Besides until its confirmed Peppers or Taylor isnt coming to NE im not convinced we'll go for any of them ...

Well, for one, I do not want the 5th best available. Just because I do not know who the best of OLB canidates does not mean that I do not expect the Front Office to. And I expect other front offices will know as well, so find the best one and take him.

That being said, I do not personally think Beatty is a stud left tackle, but I am more then happy to be wrong, and if a stud player, an impact/cornerstone type guy, at OT, CB or WR falls to 23, then take him and then try again at 34 for OLB. But don't just pass becuase their seems to be a log-jam at the spot, a run on a position can happen in a flash.

Here is something to take into consideration when evaluating Barwin. Not saying it will be a problem. Just bringing up info.

Blogs | Richmond Times-Dispatch

The switch to end wasn’t the first time Barwin had to adapt himself. He was born mostly deaf in both ears. He learned to read lips as a child and still looks at a person’s mouth during a conversation. To correct his hearing, he underwent five or six surgeries, the last one when he was in fifth or sixth grade. Despite the surgeries, he had complications, including tumors and infections, in his left ear.
Now, he can only hear a little bit out of his left ear, which has an extraordinarily deep canal. His hearing deficiency was a problem last season when he lined up on the right side of the quarterback, because he couldn’t hear the snap count and was sometimes late getting off the line.
It’s not an issue on defense, because he just moves when the tackle across from him moves. Other things, though, haven’t changed.

Already brought that up a while ago. It doesn't seem to matter too much, as he noted, especially on D.

When you draft a player you draft the whole person and that is why I brought it up for those who did not know about it. I do hope that it is not a problem for the player and the team that drafts him.

Many players have had some kind of disability such as diabetes and have had good careers.

So you are tell me he can read the lips of the play caller I thought spygate was contraversal but this would take the cake. Might be enough to push him to #23 if BB could use this talent right.

Barwin for me has done well wherever they put him so I would take him over Mathews right now. I just have never been sold on Mathews in the first two rounds and I do realize that I am going to take heat over this one. Upside his a huge factor when drafting a players as you could get a stud or dud but production is what I like to go by.

A hearing disability won't matter much: we only know that he won't have the helmet with the green dot. As explained in your excerpt, he doesn't have to listen to the snap count, just react to the OL movement. In terms of D calls, I assume he could go by hand signals.

Diabetes can be a physically debilitating illness that shortens lives. Deafness is a completely different disability, one that hasn't affected Barwin physically (as seen by his combine numbers ).

OK, will he be able to hear the call of the ILB or SS if they are changing up the D call at the last moment? Anyone watching the Patriots see that they change things just before the snap on many plays.

I hope that he can and that the coaches work out something so he knows, if we draft him.
