Again, you are just avoiding the obvious. First it was the defense at fault, and now it's because they were dominated up front. What's next? Brady threw the ball 48 times, but only got 266 yards and 1 touchdown. He missed a wide open receiver on 4th down when the team opted not to go for a field goal.

I don't blame Brady for the loss, and I've been one who's blamed it on the offensive line from the very beginning. But let's not pretend that Brady had some great game and came up huge, because he didn't.

i said its the d's fualt because the final drive and the o lines fualt we only scored 14 pts. They were dominated up front. Brady had no time and the recievers were doubled most of the time because the giants 4 man pass rushes worked so they didnt have to blitz.

Yes, Brady was perfect and everyone else failed to show up. I'm surprised they even bothered getting off the plane.

Re: Report: Cassel has accepted the franchise tender (merged)

The Patriots have to move Brady or Cassel. How could they have almost 30 million on 2 players? Brady is due a 3 million dollar signing bonus Feb 27th and 5 million for the year.If they traded Brady they would save 8 million on the cap. They can not trade Brady because he wouldnt pass a physical. So there defensive help will come from the draft or not at all unless Cassel is traded.
I hope this doesnt back fire on them. The patriots need defense more then they need Cassel.

Maybe they can trade him.

im not saying he was perfact but i am saying hes the only reason we had a chance of winning. Any other qb and i quarentee you we would not have had the lead with 2:42 left. Maybe peyton, maybe.

This thread has gone in an awful direction. Let's get back to Cassel and move away from previous heartbreaks.

But that's just not accurate, and Brady has admitted it.

I'm sorry.... I was actually trying to set SWheeler's mind at ease, and people took it entirely the wrong way.....

hes a good teamate so he took the blame, doesnt mean its true

It is true. Watch the tape.

And on that note, I'm done with the Super Bowl stuff.

Why does it always have to be a trainwreck?

Stop it!! It's about Cassel and trades.

Sorry, I didn't see your sorry.

Let's all sing Kumbaya!

We've got a young quarterback that's played his way into the perfect storm of free agent trades, let's celebrate. I know there's a market out there and this move confirms it.

he threw 48 times agianst that amazing D and threw no picks. If asanti picks that ball on the final drive, brady wins mvp.

Man that took me 20 min to catch up on this thread and It was just anounced. BB sees this as leverage I believe. He is going to drive the price for Cassell up as high as he can and by doing this I am sure 7-8 teams are going to be looking for a QB let alone a Franchise QB and he is the only one out there.

As far as Brady and Superbowl 42, the kid in Denver I believe had a lot to do with the score of that game. He did not call his best game as OC and I am sure BB let him know about that after but after the great job he did with MC this year I bet he redeemed himself. Also if you think about it Samuel had a for sure pick on that final drive which he muffed. Another DB BM I think had a pick aswell he dropped so blaming Brady is not the answer....but I am not sure Deus Irae was getting at that when he started.

Football is a funny thing, a bounce here or a stupid helmut catch there wins a SuperBowl.

ESPN.com's Chris Mortensen reports Matt Cassel has accepted the Patriots' franchise tender.

Cassel is guaranteed $14.65 million for 2009, but there are several options. The Pats can keep him at that price for one year, work out a sign-and-trade with another team, or sign Cassel to a reasonable multi-year contract as Tom Brady's backup.
Source: ESPN.com

Congratulations to Matt Cassel! By all accounts a very good guy who, with little playing experience since high school, made the most of the opportunity that arose. Selfishly, I wish the timing of a rising Patriot QB not named Brady would have happened near the end of Brady's career.
That said, Cassel signing the tender is about as surprising as Jerry Jones hiring a low character knucklehead player. Cassel, whether traded or not, just guaranteed himself 14+ million dollars whether he ever steps on the field or not (assuming he doesn't just quit or have too many strip joint run ins). Why would he not sign it right away? This action signals nothing (other than Cassel has smart representation) and changes very little. The Patriots must have known he would sign right away. It's barely is a newsworthy event (other than a few words on the ticker of F_ _ _ ESPN)

The only reasonable way for Cassel to leave town was through a trade and Cassel would need to sign the tender to make that happen.

Cassel knows this. The Pats know this. The other 31 teams know this. Not sure why so many people (even in the media) are struggling to grasp the concept. Now the game begins. Cassel has removed all risk for him from the equation. The Pats have all the risk now and will have to eat $15M on the cap if they can't work out a trade. .

Can't understand why people are saying this is a good development and will stoke more of a bidding war. I think the opposite is true: teams know the Pats now potentially have a 15 million dollar albatross if no deals have been worked out already and will lowball us accordingly.

yeah but the lowball idea assums that all the teams looking for a qb ar all going to work together to drive down the price. if you lowball for cassel then you run the risk of another team getting him and u being in the same quarterbackless situation. think about it from chicago and minni's point of view if chicago lowballs and minni doesn't then minni gets cassel and chicago has to face the consequences and vise versa. i am not saying its not possible i am just saying its dangerous for other teams to take that approach.

I'm sure the pats expected this and I'm sure they had a plan in place for when it happens. Bb refused to pay Asante 7 mil a year he's not going to pay 14 million for a backup who isn't near bradys level, cassel will be traded a couple days into free agency IMO.

I get exactly where you were going, it just went to that dark place that I like to pretend never happened. Oy. LOL.

Amen to all of that!
