I saw another thread on FA targets and Crowder was on that list. This is from today Any interest?

Young player who has a good combo of size @ 6-2 250, strength and athleticism. He is a good coverage player. He displays good hand use, can shed and also take on blockers, although that's not what he prefers. He would rather stay clean and make the play. He is a solid tackler. Two concerns on him are durability and it seems like he would rather slip and make plays rather than have to take on.

Report: Crowder, Fins headed toward Splitsville

Palm Beach Post beat writer Edgar Thompson casts significant doubt on the prospect inside linebacker Channing Crowder will re-sign with the Miami Dolphins.

Thompson, citing an unnamed league source, reports Crowder and the club are far apart in negotiations and don't appear to be making progress.

Yep. Him and Light would have a blast in practice, but Channing ought to avoid invitations to go clay pigeon shooting...

I sincerely hope you are kidding. For one, as JSn mentioned, there would be a bloodbath in practice everyday between the two. Secondly, Crowder is probably the most overrated linebacker in the NFL. There one game, then a ghost in the next two games. No way.

Well, if the Dolphins aren't willing to pay his demands, he may be pricing himself out of the Pats' range they will be willing to pay him.

An ILB I would really want to take a hard look at is Andra Davis. His first few years with Crennel, he was a stud inside. The last few he has been average, but I think it could be the players around him. He will come fairly cheap and could be one of those players who have a career resurrection with the Pats. I'm sure Belichick will get the inside skinny on the guy from Crennel and will find out if he has anything left.

Obviously, Bart Scott and James Farrior are high on my list, but they will be expensive too.

I'd like to have Crowder, but he may get top dollar. I don't know if he is worth it. Besides, he and Light are not exactly friends and supposably Crowder went way over the line with Light. Not the biggest factor in deciding on whether or not to sign him, but team chemistry is important to this team.

I never said I was interested. All I did was start a thread to gauge interest out there and to see what everyone was thinking. The player has some positives and some negatives, just like any player and chemistry must always be considered.

Guy with knee problems who just had his best year in a contract year? No thanks.

I rather pick another LB through the draft, especially an OLB pass rusher.

FA Priority #1: Resign Crowder - KFFL Community

From Third post down.

I would argue finding a pass rusher opposite Joey Porter who can come in for Matt Roth on passing downs is your biggest priority.

I'm not sure Crowder is going to be back next year. You've got to be concerned about his knee. The guy has had like what, three major knee surgeries? And he suddenly wakes up one morning last week and his knee was too stiff to play? That's kinda a huge read flag.
I think odds are, they're going to look to start an ILB rotation. In Dallas, for example, they had Bradie James, Akin Ayodele, and Kevin Burnett(Whom they subbed in for Ayodele in passing situations, a role filled by Yeremiah Bell).

I think moving Matt Roth to ILB is a possibility. The coaching staff seems to love him, but don't think much of his pass rushing skills, and alot of times in running situations they adjust by moving Roth off the line between the tackles like a 4-3 strongside linebacker often is.

Crowder is a solid LB that would bring youth and speed to the ILB position. I like guyton and think he did a solid job but Crowder is definitely an upgrade..

Just an FYI, B. Scott will probably head to NYJ.. He's an average lb tha plays well in a scheme. Plus I was listening to NFLN radio and there were rumblings he's a headcase

James Farrior is not a free agent. Pitt signed him up earlier this season..

You are right about Farrior. I didn't realize it. Sorry.

As for Scott, I wouldn't count on him going to the Jets. There might be a mutual interest between him and Rex Ryan, but the Jets have cap issues and need to spend money on a veteran QB and to upgrade their secondary. Scott may be a luxary that they can't afford.

no biggie about Farrior.. But i noticed a lot of people saying we should target him.. Sorry if I came across as pompus..

Contrary to belief, the Jets will have a good amt of money to spend. They have their own salary cap guru.. New York Jets Salary Cap

He states with Favre they have 16 million to spend. Without King Favre they might have close to 30 million..

THis is why I expect the Jets to make a play for 1 or two of the Ravens players..

crowder would be ok.......I think the thing with light is overblown.......especially if they become teammates

his knee is the biggest concern tho

See below...

I would rather take Bart Scott or grab one through the draft.

That man knows how to throw his helmet in a temper tantrum and keep crying as his team loses after giving the 2007 Pats all they could handle.

Sign me up. Young LB, experienced in the 3-4. We wouldn't want him as a starter, as depth I think he'd be solid. Who knows if BB was turned on/off by his attitude during their time together. Hopefully he likes him, it'd be exciting to get even younger and faster,

Actually, he states they are $16 million over the cap, not under. He estimates them to have a cap # of $139 million and the cap limit is $123 million. Even if they cut Favre, they will be $3 million over. They can make some moves to get under, but they won't have much money to make a splash in free agency.

Don't forget teams are going to have to carry extra cap room into the season because all NLTBE bonuses will hit the cap when they are earned in the season, not pushed into next season. The Jets will also need about $4 million for rookies. They will most likely have to pay a seasoned veteran QB at least $2-3 million also.

I don't see them being able to make a play for either of the two Raven LBs who aren't franchised. Whichever two of the three that aren't franchised will be two of the more sought after free agents on the market assuming they don't sign contract extensions before free agency. The Jets just don't have the cap room to be players.

NE has youth and speed, what they don't need is the collective IQ at the position dragged down by a head case who is out of position more often than not and needs all that speed to make up for being clueless.
