FA Target: Miami's LB Crowder??

Actually, he states they are $16 million over the cap, not under. He estimates them to have a cap # of $139 million and the cap limit is $123 million. Even if they cut Favre, they will be $3 million over. They can make some moves to get under, but they won't have much money to make a splash in free agency.

Don't forget teams are going to have to carry extra cap room into the season because all NLTBE bonuses will hit the cap when they are earned in the season, not pushed into next season. The Jets will also need about $4 million for rookies. They will most likely have to pay a seasoned veteran QB at least $2-3 million also.

I don't see them being able to make a play for either of the two Raven LBs who aren't franchised. Whichever two of the three that aren't franchised will be two of the more sought after free agents on the market assuming they don't sign contract extensions before free agency. The Jets just don't have the cap room to be players.

I stand corrected.. I didn't noticed the parentheses.. Can I take back my incorrect comment

NE has youth and speed, what they don't need is the collective IQ at the position dragged down by a head case who is out of position more often than not and needs all that speed to make up for being clueless.

Couldn't agree with you anymore about the Headcase.. But I disagree with you about Youth and Speed. The lb positions are there quite yet.. And Sanders and O'Neal need to be replaced by better talent.

A LB low on IQ and play making ability and then a contract makes no sense.
this guy has been useless for a while now. also with bru,guyton,rudd/rookie/alxender and mayo even if you add seau we will a nice ILB core with varing skillset of experienced ,fast, big and young.

Hey Mike, what do you think the odds are that the Pats make a run at free agent LB Channing Crowder? I like this guy a lot. He is young and productive. Knows how to play the 3-4 and would be a good combo with Mayo. It doesn't look like the Dolphins are going to re-sign him. What do you think?
Mike, Pflugerville, Texas

Mike, I know there are some members of the Patriots' coaching staff who think very highly of Crowder, with one coach giving Crowder his 2008 Pro Bowl vote at the position. I'm not sure that means they'll go after him, though. Cost would be a consideration. Also, when Crowder was coming out of Florida, some teams had concerns with a knee issue. So the question has to be asked: "Has he proven, with four pretty durable NFL years, that the medical concerns are in the past?" Overall, because my hunch is that the Patriots won't be overly aggressive in free agency until the Cassel situation is resolved one way or the other, I'd put the percentage quite low that they would land Crowder.

I get what Mike is saying, but if he hits FA, I think he'll see an offer from the Pats, though maybe not what he'd be looking for.

And I still think he should avoid going clay pigeon shooting with Matt L.

Yeh, Dante Scarnecchia voted for him for the Pro-Bowl at the request of Matt Light who was hoping for "closure."

Only if he passes the BB diner Sitdown meet. He's pretty good. Not sure how Light and him will get along after that ugly skirmish last year.

it will make them practice harder

Probably make an awesome clip to how on the big screen on opening day, hehe.

Well, if the Dolphins aren't willing to pay his demands, he may be pricing himself out of the Pats' range they will be willing to pay him.

An ILB I would really want to take a hard look at is Andra Davis. His first few years with Crennel, he was a stud inside. The last few he has been average, but I think it could be the players around him. He will come fairly cheap and could be one of those players who have a career resurrection with the Pats. I'm sure Belichick will get the inside skinny on the guy from Crennel and will find out if he has anything left.

Obviously, Bart Scott and James Farrior are high on my list, but they will be expensive too.

I'd like to have Crowder, but he may get top dollar. I don't know if he is worth it. Besides, he and Light are not exactly friends and supposably Crowder went way over the line with Light. Not the biggest factor in deciding on whether or not to sign him, but team chemistry is important to this team.

I second Andra Davis, he is a veteran who will come cheap and will not hurt the chemistry like Crowder would. Also knows our defense and he is very hungry to be on a winning team. He may be just average at times but he also can make some nice plays other times. He'll be a good stop gap for another year or until Guyton develops.
