The refs called sacks on both these QBs (Donovan Mcnabb and Matt Ryan)when they acually made plays, sighting "forward progress" being stopped. If these were sacks, then Eli Manning was SACKED BIG TIME during last years Super Bowl.

I haven't seen that game again from last year but when I saw it live, Eli should have been called as being "sacked" and would have been 4th and VERY LONG and 19-0 for us...

Well, not to be but still I think the refs should have blown the whistle last year. Eli was sacked.

We lost last year. It's dead and buried. Leave it as is.

I understand what you guys are saying, but I did think that exact same thing when I saw the "sack called". I'm almost over it .... I swear

There's a difference between throwing the ball while in the grasp, and running free while in the grasp. Atleast from what I can tell, there is.

They seem to blow the QB dead if he's in the grasp and throws the ball away or to a receiver. But, they will let you get away if you break the tackle yourself.

I dunno, just an observation.

Yeah. Except for in the first Miami game when they called Cassel as sacked even when he broke the tackle and ran downfield.

We're almost a full year removed from that. It's done. Nothing we can do.

There is some inconsistency in the calls, just like there is with PI, holding, in/out of bounds receptions, and any other judgement call. The solution is to simplify it. QB is either down or he isn't. No grey area. If you want your QB to be "protected", don't let him get sacked. We've weenified the QB position to the point they can't even be tackled anymore.

I remember that very clearly. Cassel broke out of it and ran for the TD but was called a "sack" and was called back. Eli did the same as the very least and was never "sacked" and made that invalid throw and the miracle catch....

I know its over and done with but still hurts a bit....

The McNabb one was iffy, but I def thought they shouldn't have stopped the Ryan one.
