Do you WANT Cassel to remain the starting QB?

With this poll we can get a clear board consensus on where we all stand with Cassel right now. I expect a few of the usuals to avoid voting in this poll, due to not wanting to look foolish when the inevitable happens.

We've played over a quarter of the season, take your side.

I'd rather not throw O'Connell in a Monday Night game against a good team that can score points. I'd give Cassel the game. If he plays like tonight, then O'Connell can play against the Rams.

I supported Matt Cassel after Week 2 and even made a thread supporting him.

I predicted the Pats to win tonight.

Unfortunately, benching Cassel isn't going to do much. There's no point trading for a different QB who isn't going to be here next year. Cassel is doing what he can, and will only go through growing pains. That said, he's a fourth year QB. There are some things he should be able to do at this point, including completing passes that have less than 10 yards window room. That 4th and 1 fiasco was a black mark on any QB's career.

Brady's had his share of cr*ptacular plays, too. (The fourth INT in the Miami meltdown in '04 strikes me as the kind of play that would get a lot of QBs benched.)

I've never seen Brady completley miss 3 wide open TD passes in a single game.

I've never seen Rex Grossman do such a thing either.

My issue isn't that "Cassel sucks." My issue is I just don't see a team run by Cassel beating a legitimate contender (like SD, or Denver next week). O'Connell will CERTAINLY make his fair share of errors...but I think he gives the offense a chance to put up some points and stick with these superior teams.

I'll point out I voted "yes," because I think that having Cassel as the Pats starter gives them the best chance to win in the long run.

At the moment, the way this team has played so far, I don't see them winning the SB, no matter who they have at QB. And I sure as heck don't want to see them (A) trade a future pick for a QB, and then still miss the playoffs, or (B) screw up O'Connell's development by rushing him into the game.

[And, as someone else noted--if BB is that displeased, why didn't O'Connell get even a garbage time snap?]

Cassel couldn't even score in garbage time, which was sad.

BB even took a final timeout, to see if Cassel could get a final 7 on the board. Cassel thanks him by missing a wide open Ben Watson in the endzone.

Though I know it will just end in another loss, I guess the fair thing to do is give Cassel one more week starting - against the Broncos. Risk? You go 3-3, .500. At this point Cassel will have played 3 home/road games and have a chance to prove he can beat a playoff contender at home on Monday Night. He is playing a horrible Broncos defense at home so everything will be in his favor.

If he can't once again, you set up O'Connell/Vet QB for a easy first start of the season against the Rams at home and hope to get to 4-3 from there.

I want him benched NOW, but see him lasting one more week.

Give the man another week. Let's at least see how he responds after this loss before making a final decision. We'll be back home next Monday night against another good AFC team, and we know how soft that Broncos defense is. This will be a great opportunity for Cassel to show he can bounce back after a bad loss. Next week is a VERY pivotal game of the season not only for the Pats, but for Cassel as well. Let's just see how this plays out for one more week.

In Brady's first year playing, we were 5-5 after Brady played in 9 games......A few of them were ugly losses.....Brady needed time to develop......I don't think Cassel was the reason for yesterday's loss. This loss, like the Miami loss is on the defense......First they get run through by the Phins, and yesterday they got passed.....

Cassel will play until BB decides we are out of the playoffs anyway and gives the kid some experience. I say 2-3 more weeks, another 8 sacks or so.

be kinda unfair to throw O'Connell to the wolves just yet. Cassel has to know the system, he's just not capable of making all the throws yet (he may never). Brady had time to learn the system when Bledsoe got hit. We've got to get healthy at RB and the right side of the OL. Until then, O'Connel will be learning a hell of a lot more on the bench IMO.
