They were commenting about it on ESPN. Some announcers thought that Wilfork should be suspended for it. But it's obvious that the guy on the receiving end didn't actually get hurt, although he was annoyed. So will Wilfork get fined or suspended?

I don't think that he should miss a playoff game because of that incident. I will say that I think he DID go over the line, but the other guy wasn't even hurt. At most he should get a significant monetary fine, what do you think?

I don't think he should be suspended. I mean c'mon it took 3 horse collar tackles for Roy to be suspended. Give 'em his fine and warning... escalate the punishment from there.

I don't think the fact that the guy didn't get hurt should make a difference.

I really don't know. I hope the Commissioner will use discretion and take into account the magnitude of the next game.

But ultimately, I think the issue is one of precedent. What has happened for similar incidents in the past?

I don't think he would get suspended for a game in the playoffs that happened in the regular season... He will probably see a nice fine though... There were quite a bit of scuffles in this game, so I can only assume there was alot of "talking" going on by the teams...

Mort said that because there was no injury he was hearing it was very likely to be a fine not a suspension. I didn't think he tried to poke him in the eye, but the end result was closer to that that was planned. Regardless, Vince needs to be careful and with this commissioner we need to not be putting ourselves in the position of giving him the chance to screw us over.

I disagree, I think whether a player gets hurt or not should affect the severity of the punishment. For example remember the referee who blinded the offensive lineman for life by throwing a flag into his eye? I think the ref had a legitimate case against him because he caused an actual physical injury.

I think Wilfork just got caught up in the heat of the moment when he jammed his finger into the other guy's helmet. Yes he should be punished, but not as severely because the other player suffered no actual phsyical damage.

That's exactly what I'm worried about with Goodell. He seems to want to establish himself as a "hardass" commissioner. i hope he doesn't go overboard in his punishment, and takes the lack of actual harm into account with his sentencing.

He should get a $4500 fine and a golden Eff The Giants trophy signed by BB.

He should be fined alot imo. That was stupid and malicious on his part and embarrassing to the franchise. I'd be suprised to see a suspension but then again, Goodel is the commissioner.

The intent, to me, also was less than it appeared. I don't think he was trying to poke him in the eye but to point his finger like a parent saying "cut it out".

IMO he was doing it to annoy Jacobs, certainly not to poke (or "gouge" as I read on a San Diego forum).

In my mind he was saying "not touching you, not touching you", but that's probably not true.

He should get a hefty fine, no suspension though. I think it was a dumb move by Wilfork, he'll catch hell from BB for sure.

I would agree with you, but I might be speaking out of bias. Would an "unbiased" person view that action in the same way, just looking at the tape objectively? It's hard to say. And don't forget Goodell's NY roots. I'm not saying that will influence him, but it certainly doesn't help us! I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that Wilfork doesn't miss a playoff game over this stupid incident.

I thought Vince's move was immature, stupid and lame. You've gotta keep your head better than that. I expect more from him. Embarrassing. That said, I don't think there was intent to injure.

i find it funny how everything the Pats do is so over blown and magnified by the media. People get poked in the eye and kicked and punched in the balls etc all the time every game by every team...you just dont hear about it until the Pats do it.

Why should he?? That was Wilforks job.

I love Vince as much as the next pats homer... but that was a STUPID thing to do.

I too hope that we have Wilfork playing in the first playing game, but he doesn't deserve to play.

We are all crossing our fingers and hoping that the Commissioner doesn't do what he would OBVIOUSLY do at any other time in the season. We are begging for mercy from the Commissioner because we need the player. If the player were Spann or another player at the bottom of the roster, we would likely not care as much. Should the NFL, really be run this way? Should they give Wilfork a fine, and wish the patriots good luck in the playoffs? Should the Commissioner condone such behavior from a pro-bowler, or should he set an example.

Even if there wasn't intent to injure as a lot of people seem to think, I don't think that mitigates his actions that much. It's still a dangerous thing to do. You just should never get near someone's eyes like that.

Hefty fine for sure, and well-deserved.

A little while later he and Jacobs were patting each other on the back. Big Vince will get fined for it but he didn't cause injury and he didn't get flagged and I don't think his intent was to poke Jacobs in the eye.
