Jets are in great cap shape from not doing Revis type deals. So, what do they do? Resign Revis and give him what he wanted 3 years ago. Revis won again and he has laid the blueprint for getting every nickel out of the Jets.
Richardson will be needing a new contract soon. The Pats are about team and the Jets about greed.
That's the best part. When Revis was 25/26 years old in the absolute prime of his career, with the Jets a playoff contender, the team couldn't fathom paying him his asking price of $16M per year. Now that he is turning 30 with a repaired ACL, the team in full-on rebuilding mode, suddenly he is worth that contract again. I'll say it again: this move was made so that Woody Johnson would get his "victory dance" and moment bathing in the tabloid bliss of New York adulation. His way of "beating" Belichick is sad and pathetic.
