re: The 2011 season: The Jets Suck(merged)
I guess you need it spelled out: The Miners weren't suddenly looking UP at the Vikings in 1988, because of one freakish victory: Everybody ~ including Vikings fans ~ knew that they'd just gotten lucky on a Given Sunday.
Same with the Jets, last year: Very few would be foolish enough to suggest that the Jets suddenly eclipsed us because of one lucky win.
Had they beaten US, 45-3, then your point would hold water.

Nobody's saying that the Pats don't have anything to prove.
And nobody's saying that the Jets didn't have a better year.

The only umbrage you've aroused has ~ clearly ~ been because of your ill advised decision to CROWN them as "The Team To Beat."
If you're retracting that term, then there's no longer any disagreement, though you seem to want to cover your tracks by making statements that nobody disagrees with.
A simple retraction will do.
Honestly, that's just LUDICROUSLY foolish, my friend.
* Were the 1987 Vikings, who went 8-7, "The Team To Beat" because the chips fell for them and they beat the 13-2 Miners??
* Were the 1994 Nuggets, who went 42-40, "The Team To Beat" because the Top Seed Sonics CHOKED???
You see where I'm going with this??

Unlike virtually every other soul in New England, I respect and admire Coach Ryan.
The guy is an utterly brilliant Coach, he's got the heart of a @#$%ing LION, and, despite the frothing, fuming efforts of the Mass Media to paint him as a BlowHard ~ a notion that 99% of the denizens of New England have ALL too happily embraced, I'm afraid ~ I have YET to read a word from him that is anything but thoughtfull ~ yes!! thoughtfull!! ~ and respectfull ~ yes!! respectfull!! ~ of his rivals and of this Great Game.
But..."The Team to BEAT????"
Give me a BREAK!!
Get back to me when they win a Championship...of any kind!!

The Patriots are THE Alpha Team.
Not just in the AFC East.
In all the WORLD.
And this has been true for a LONG...LONG...time.
THANK you.
That's all well and good. But the alpha team lost to the Jet's in the playoffs last year. In my mind that makes their season more successful. They got to keep playing football. The Patriots went home. I think winning the division is great (and important) don't get me wrong.
But I'm dealing in the present day. Not 1987, and certainly not the 1994 NBA season.
