re: The 2011 season: The Jets Suck(merged)

Honestly, that's just LUDICROUSLY foolish, my friend.

* Were the 1987 Vikings, who went 8-7, "The Team To Beat" because the chips fell for them and they beat the 13-2 Miners??

* Were the 1994 Nuggets, who went 42-40, "The Team To Beat" because the Top Seed Sonics CHOKED???

You see where I'm going with this?? ;)

***

Unlike virtually every other soul in New England, I respect and admire Coach Ryan.

The guy is an utterly brilliant Coach, he's got the heart of a @#$%ing LION, and, despite the frothing, fuming efforts of the Mass Media to paint him as a BlowHard ~ a notion that 99% of the denizens of New England have ALL too happily embraced, I'm afraid ~ I have YET to read a word from him that is anything but thoughtfull ~ yes!! thoughtfull!! ~ and respectfull ~ yes!! respectfull!! ~ of his rivals and of this Great Game.

But..."The Team to BEAT????"

Give me a BREAK!!

Get back to me when they win a Championship...of any kind!!

The Patriots are THE Alpha Team.

Not just in the AFC East.

In all the WORLD.

And this has been true for a LONG...LONG...time.

THANK you.

That's all well and good. But the alpha team lost to the Jet's in the playoffs last year. In my mind that makes their season more successful. They got to keep playing football. The Patriots went home. I think winning the division is great (and important) don't get me wrong.

But I'm dealing in the present day. Not 1987, and certainly not the 1994 NBA season.

I guess you need it spelled out: The Miners weren't suddenly looking UP at the Vikings in 1988, because of one freakish victory: Everybody ~ including Vikings fans ~ knew that they'd just gotten lucky on a Given Sunday.

Same with the Jets, last year: Very few would be foolish enough to suggest that the Jets suddenly eclipsed us because of one lucky win.

Had they beaten US, 45-3, then your point would hold water.

***

Nobody's saying that the Pats don't have anything to prove.

And nobody's saying that the Jets didn't have a better year.

***

The only umbrage you've aroused has ~ clearly ~ been because of your ill advised decision to CROWN them as "The Team To Beat."

If you're retracting that term, then there's no longer any disagreement, though you seem to want to cover your tracks by making statements that nobody disagrees with.

A simple retraction will do. ;)

re: The 2011 season: The Jets Suck(merged)

I don't believe anything unless I hear it on espn, an S.C.Johnson Corporation.

re: The 2011 season: The Jets Suck(merged)

lol this thread is great. I'll spice it up a bit. Who do you guys see as the 6 playoff teams this year. I'll start it up

(no particular order)
E-Pats
W-Chargers
N-Steelers
S-Colts
WC-Jets
WC-Texans

I think this is the year the Texans finally get in

I agree that this is the year for the Texans. (or else Kubiak is done) I like your picks.

This is why I tried to dismiss the notion that there is a single 'team to beat" however it somehow keeps getting brought up. It's a made up term that we can debate the meaning over for ages. I think there are people that are more happy with a division title then a playoff victory. That's fine. I'm just not one of them.

The Jets have won four of the last seven meetings. Certainly not total domination, but it is a record that favors them. Coupled with the fact that we haven't won a postseason game since 2007, I can't dub the Patriots an Alpha team anymore. Not until they perform in the post season.

Jets suck.

re: The 2011 season: The Jets Suck(merged)

So we are in agreement that there is no technical term for "team to beat" and it's all a matter of preference. The Jets beat us in the most important game of our season last year. In my opinion, that makes them the team to beat, we have to prove that we can beat them when it counts.

I'm sorry you can't see the obvious. I'll leave it at that.

Well, that and the Jets suck.

And I am sorry for having the audacity of not seeing it your way.

My apologies again. Jets Suck. You're right that is pretty obvious.

Re: The 2011 season:The Jets Suck

It's posts like these first two that make it hard to be a Pats' fan some days. I hate the Jests as much as the next guy, but to scoff off getting beaten at home, and then toss in a few unfunny fart jokes for good measure, is lower than I want to crawl.

But carry on if you get your jollies by looking like a couple of junior high schoolers.
It must be hell being so much better than everyone else.

Jets suck.
Winning the division is important. First win the division. Secure a bye. Those give you a slight advantage.

Why do you pick the last 7 games? Because the Jets won 4? How about the last 11 games?

Same as we haven't won a playoff game in since 2007. Cherry pick stats and you can make any team look good or bad.

Fact is, the Pats lost their last game last year, and so did the Jets, Colts, Ravens, Steelers and Chargers.

There might or might not be one team to beat, but if there is, it isn't the jets.

re: The 2011 season: The Jets Suck(merged)

a motley gaggle of terminally immature, boorish, delusional lost souls who know very, very little about football.

And way, way too much about sexual harassment.

[Ironically, I knew a JEST fan who was fired for harassment. . . .]

I'd be a real heel if I didn't put my foot down and say the Jest suck. I'm not going to toe the line of political correctness, for the sole reason that the Jest suckage is undeniable.

re: The 2011 season: The Jets Suck(merged)

For sexual harassment?

...Or for being a Jets fan?

I'd like to think the latter, but I know it's the former. :) :(

[My boss at the time was a Giants fan, so we didn't see eye-to-eye very much . . . except about the JEST sucking.]

I picked the last 7 simply because I was going back to 2008, trying to deal in recent history. If we go to far back we are dealing with entirely different rosters. We haven't won in the post season since 2007. That's not cherry picking. That's a fact. I'm as excited as the rest of the Pat's fans out there are about the season getting under way. But we have to remain objective too.

Sanchez compares Jets defense to '85 Bears - NYPOST.com

Sanchez got more than a little carried away yesterday morning, comparing this year's Jets defense to the famed 1985 Bears unit that rampaged its way to a 15-1 regular season and a Super Bowl crown.

Mark was born in November 1986, so I'm sure he remembers that team well.

Sanchez probably learned all he knows about 80s football from playing Madden....I suspect like some on this board

Here are some things we KNOW that Sanchez knows, for sure:

* High school girls.

* Justin Bieber live in concert.

* Harry Potter movies.

* Goddamn snacks.

re: The 2011 season: The Jets Suck(merged)

I'm looking forward to watching the interior line play when the Jets play run between the tackles versus us. I think we win that hands down.

How'd you like to be Shonn Greene going into the teeth of our beefier than Mt. Rushmore defense*? I think he gets walloped.

And the Jets safeties, including the unheralded but smart Eric Smith, have got to be very worried facing our passing game. So many weapons. Hall of Fame QB.

And now apparently a rejuvenated running game.

*I'm the first to use this expression. But I give permission for others to use.
