The new people in charge know their fans will be over scrutinizing of any move made with the Patriots after we screwed them a few times already.
I saw this a few weeks ago (when it was just speculation) and thought it would be a solid fit, but I think that the Bucs would want at least a third for Glennon. He performed well last season as a starter for a rookie, honestly, I do not understand why Smith is trying to move in a different direction.QB Mike Glennon (Bucs) is on the trading blocks, according to most media outlets.
I wouldn't be surprised to see the Pats ship another late rounder to Bucs for him.
What say you?
Glennon is an option that gives up a backup through 2016. He should definitely be on the block. It would make sense to trade for him, and to trade Mallett. There's a whole bunch of QBs I prefer over Glennon. Unless they're getting a major return on Mallett, I'd rather they just keep Mallett and pick up someone on day 3 to blood for next year.

I would ask why a) Mallett would bring back more than it would cost to get Glennon and b) why Glennon would be better than a draft pick as a backup QB?Glennon is an option that gives up a backup through 2016. I didn't want to start yet another debate on how much Mallett is worth in trade. I agree that Glennon might cost more.I would ask why a) Mallett would bring back more than it would cost to get Glennon and b) why Glennon would be better than a draft pick as a backup QB?
I could see the Patriots getting Glennon, and trading Mallett to, say, the Bucs or Falcons, maybe. Ravens, Texans and Lions, could have interest, as well.Glennon is an option that gives up a backup through 2016. He should definitely be on the block. It is very possible that Glennon has more trade value than Ryan Mallett does. Mallet was the #74 overall pick in 2011, Glennon was the #73 overall pick in 2013, Mallett has never started a regular season game, Glennon has started 13 games, and he performed solid for a rookie in them with an 83.9 QB rating on the season.
In my opinion, there is only one team that could be interested in Mallett and that is Houston, and only if Bill O’Brien sees something in Mallett that he wants badly. Other teams with no background on Mallett I think would be more interested in Glennon or Cousins because at least they have some game experience/tape to look at.Not meaning to re-open the "how much is Mallett worth" debate, but I think you certainly make a fair point by bringing up the fact that Mike Glennon's name bring thrown in the trade ring (along with the possibility of Kirk Cousins) may make Mallett's worth a bit less. It's just more competition from other QBs with upside who were taken in the middle rounds and have proven to be NFL starters at times.
I personally don't see any reason whatsoever to believe that Mallett would bring back more in compensation than Glennon, as you point out. The only difference could be if Bill O'Brien was nearly as interested as some have suggested. That could make the familiarity a fit. We'll know for sure when this weekend is over, so we can finally put it to rest one way or another. As a Ryan Mallett fan, I loved the selection, and I like him as our backup. I just don't think he's shown anyone enough to warrant anything more than a 3rd/4th round pick right now, and that leaves us with a big hole at an important position.
With Glennon, there's sufficient tape on him, and he looked fairly decent at times for a pure rookie on a terrible team.It would seem that he has some decent upside, especially with the right coach and vet QB in front of him.
As far as us trading for Glennon, I have to agree with you that Tampa Bay just isn't going to give him away, as the OP suggests a bit. If he could be had for a late rounder, it'd be a no-brainer for sure.

I would not trade Mallett for less than #65 from Houston otherwise I would just have him play out the remainder of his contract and see what his value looks like on the UFA market, hoping for a compensatory draft pick in 2016.
