Pats WR situation.

It is really cool that they're as similar as they are, but it also has to be highlighted that Beckham had a crazy 3 cone time. Almost as good as Edelman's. And while 6.94 is perfectly adequate, 6.69 is a major, very significant improvement.

Yeah, that's a big difference. That hand size though is impressive. They always make a big deal about Beckham's hand size and Mitchell's hands are a half an inch larger and just 1/4 of an inch smaller than Gronk's. Also reading about how explosive he was supposed to be when he got to Georgia has me wondering if his speed and quickness are improving as his knee is getting stronger.

I looked up how he was viewed coming out of high school and Rivals had him ranked as the #1 defensive back in the country. Yahoo Sports: Rivals.com Ranking - Rivals.com cornerbacks 2011

The OP forgets the UDFAs Wilson and Foster, even though they may not be long for the journey. And not assuming that Wilson isn't moved to TE (which is the ONLY way I think he'll survive; this position is too jammed and skilled for him to even have a marginal shot).

When I read about Mitchell's large hands and saw a video of him making a one handed catch, I thought I'd compare their measurables and they are quite similar.

Beckham
Height 5'11"
Weight 198
Arm length 32 3/4
Hand size 10
40 4.43
Vertical 38.5
Broad jump 122
3 cone 6.69

Mitchell
Height 6'
Weight 198
Arm length 32 5/8
Hand size 10.5
40 4.45
Vertical 36
Broad jump 129
3 cone 6.94

I'm not at all saying he's as good, but it's nice to see. Mitchell has not been described as being that fast, but 4.45 is certainly quite fast. I guess that means he doesn't play as fast as he tested. Then again that could also be because of his recovering knee injuries. He was a 5 star recruit and was described as having explosive speed when he first got to Georgia, but knee injuries derailed him. I'm wondering if he's still getting his speed and quickness back. I can't wait to see him play this summer and find out what we have with him.

Beckham had a 1.5 10 yard split and a sub 4.0 second short shuttle. I'm a fan of Mitchell, but Beckham is significantly quicker than Mitchell.

I like that, in Michell and Lucien, the Pats have targeted prospects with good WR skill sets rather than WRs known for their athleticism rather than their skillsets. I wonder if this is a change following the issues at drafting WRs previously. Also, there was story from last year that Arizona State were basing their offense, in part, on the Patriots offense. I don't think it's a coincidence we took two Arizona State offensive skill position players this weekend.

Arizona State’s offense will resemble the New England Patriots in 2015

Graham’s ideal offense is an up-tempo system operating a breakneck pace. The next step is fashioning its passing attack after the reigning Super Bowl champions, the New England Patriots. Graham will mold a quick-passing attack around Bercovici.

“What we want to see is – 1, 2, ball’s out on 3,” Graham said.

“Getting people off of you is what they do with their quick passing game, and we’ve got a guy who has a lightening release. I mean, this guy can throw the football. We’re obviously adapting everything to that.”

Hoping Lucien shows well in camp and takes dobsons role. Dobsons a hair taller with a slightly faster 40 (not sure it translates to game speed in his situation though) but Lucien actually shows the ability to catch the ball with his hands

Edelman
Hogan
Amendola
Washington
Martin
Mitchell

That's our WRs. If that's not the case Week 1 I pledge to clear my ignore list, vote for Hillary, delete my patsfans.com account and restart the Goodell fan club.

I have found that it is useful to ignore all UDFA's at least until the first preseason game. At that point, there are a very few of the 20 signed during months before preseason that might make the team.

UDFA's signed at this point might no even make it past their first physical.

If it were up to me, and I don't think it should be, I would have a continuing thread following UDFA's, and rarely discuss them in other threads at least until Training Camp.

Indulging in lists like this reminds me that people forget position groups are impacting by needs in other position groups. I don't ever assume someone might make it or is a lock at one position based solely on the other names in the same position group.

I disagree. I think that locks are indeed determined by the names in the same position group.

I also agree that there are 9 or so roster spots that could be at almost any position. The numbers below might be considered the lower limits at various positions, with the nine roster spots for special teamers and additional backups.

OFFENSE (22)
QB 2
RB 4
WR 4
RB 4
OL 8

DEFENSE (19)
DL 8
LB 4
CB 4
S 3

SPECIALISTS (3)

WRs Week 1 of the season

Edelman
Hogan
Mitchell
Martin
Lucien

That $4.1m this season and $6.5m next season is too enticing for Belichick to pass up and Amendola gets the axe. Lucien beats out Washington and Dobson when he catches everything thrown to him and Washington and Dobson have one too many drops for Bill's liking.

I see Martin and Washington over Mitchell at the start of the season
No need for paranoia. Mitchell, Lucien and co. can start on practice squad, no?
And if/when one of them is brought in he stays on the roster.

You have to expose them to the waiver wire to get them through to the PS don't you? No way Mitchell gets through waivers.

"Not to piss in your Cheerios", he said, while pissing in the man's Cheerios, "but Dobson came out of college with sure hands as one of his listed assets."

then again maybe they will carry one more WR if the value is there
it will be interesting how ST gets composed this year with so many new players bringing versatility and ST value. Maybe this opens up some extra positional space. Maybe Mitchell can start there (or indeed DB although competition there will be fierce as well)...

well my brains just collapsed with all the possibilities. thanks BB

Danny did answer THE CALL though ...

So because Dobson has had the drops for 3 seasons it means Lucien is going to? Definitely seems like you are implying it.

I knew taking most people off of ignore at draft time would be a waste of time, and you took only one post to show me I was right in your case. Congrats, and back to the ignore list.
