Are we all sure this move was made just to fill in Hernandez spot for a few weeks and not because AH is worse than what we hear from 'sources'?

I absolutely hate this Patriots tactic when it comes to injury to key players......all we get are 'sources' instead of the team.

After that injury Hernandez won't be putting Big numbers in 2012. He be gone for quite some time. A sprain of that variety takes some time to heal...hope to see by week 12 Aarron.

I don't get the hate for this move. I don't care what his knees look like. The question is whether he can help the team at this point. I would think the answer is yes. He still has good hands, and even if he couldn't move like he used to, he is still productive. The Pats don't need him to be a 75-catch guy. If, over the next 6 weeks, he's able to grab 3 balls a game and be a decent blocker, that's better than Hoomanawanui. I'd feel very comfortable with a set of Lloyd, Welker, Gronk, and Winslow out on the field. At least in the short-term.

As long as he's healthy for the playoffs....

Belichick just should have had two Rob Gronkowskis and two Aaron Hernandezes. Then we wouldn't be in this position.

KWII works fine for me, can't ask more than him as an injury replacement.

Impossible to have two of them, lucky to have one of each. That said, you always have plan C and hopefully plans D, E, and F. Having the ability to still run a two TE offense AND the capacity to either run or spread 'em out ramdonly based on matchups would be nice, and it was doable. Teams we face this season have spent all off season working on plans to stop an elite two TE offense. Hernandez going down if coupled with a persistence in running that offense come hell or high water including in the absense of two elite TE's will be easier.

I think the team knows there has to be help behind the OL with blocking since we absolutely suck ass on the right side so it looks like Gronk may be seen even less now on offensive catches to help the suckage of protection when Vollmer is out and hope that Winslow is a miracle signing.

I can't believe the total reversal of weak areas on the team.. Last year it was all defensive problems, this year offense is the worry.

"It's kind of funny, actually, to think that a team could go from having too many to not enough targets with exactly two roster moves. After all, the Seahawks acquired Owens and Winslow on the premise that they were not risking much. If anything went sideways, they could always cut them. And that's just what Seattle did, and while the departure of Owens was not all that shocking considering he dropped as many passes as he caught in his two exhibition games, the release of Winslow was an out-of-the-blue shock.

At least it was for anyone who has been watching practice. He was very involved with what Seattle was doing on offense. He was the receiving specialist in Seattle's two tight-end sets, and someone who gave Seattle's defense fits in practice. He is big enough to give defensive backs problems in coverage, and too precise a receiver to be covered by a linebacker."

Is there a catch to Seahawks' release of Kellen Winslow? | Seahawks Blog | The Seattle Times

Gronk and Hernandez are about as interchangeable as Brady and Wilfork. And replacing either with a backup is about as effective as replacing a Welker with an Edleman.

This about sums it up right here. Which means, in my estimation, unless they bring in Gaffney or Branch (legitimate receiving threats with knowledge of the system) this offense is screwed and we are going to have to hope to win low scoring drag out games.

Exactly.

It doesn't hurt having fresh legs in the playoffs after a players been injured in regular season.

Last year Spikes and Chung came back just in time for the end of the season and the playoffs, and gave the team a renewed energy.

Besides the knees, the concern has to be the attitude.

We are talking about a guy who forced a trade from Tampa Bay after refusing to show up for workouts and OTAs because the new coaching staff there was far too serious and wouldn't let the players have any fun any more (paraphrasing his own words).

I know BB places a value football being important to the player, so I hope this got well hashed-out on his visits, or else we will just have another Haynesworth situation.

Love the talent, question the attitude, question the knees, question the football IQ quite frankly, given the lack of ability that other vets have had in picking up the system. To be effective, he needs to be able to line up at multiple positions in a no huddle. Is it even realistic for him to pick up that level of familiarity with this offense in a month?

Anyone know who they released to make room on the roster?

One thing I didn't realize is that he did have 75 catches for 763 yards and 2 TDs last year. Considering how Freeman struggled last year, those aren't bad numbers.

Still not thrilled with the signing, but he looks like he could be a good stopgap if Hernandez is gone until midseason.

Can't be worse than Oompa Loompa. Hopefully Fells is back for Sunday night too then we have pretty decent depth there. Who'd have thought going into camp that we'd need to bring in a TE week 2 after injuries to AH, Fells, AND Shiancoe (Ballard was already hurt so I won't count him).

This is an absolute no-brainer, a fine in-season injury signing, with no guarantees.

Do you guys really want to see the Hooman have a major role?

Winslow hasn't missed a game since 2008, the only season in which he missed a game, and you're worried about his knees? His passing totals for the last 3 years have been 77, 66, and 75. He doesn't need to be Hernandez; he simply needs to add something to the offense.

Josh and Bill are committed to the 2 TE offense if they have the personnel. Belichick has made a long-term commitment to that offense with the contracts with Gronkowski and Hernandez.

We should be celebrating Belichick's planning in bringing in Winslow for a workout a few weeks ago.

I like the move. As far as I know, Winslow was having successful camp with the Seahawks. There were reports that he was giving defenders fits. It was a surprise when they cut him, but the word was that it was because he would not restructure his contract.

That formula won us Three SB's if my memory serves me correct.

Mike Williams, from my alma mater, and former college teammate of Chandler Jones. Pretty solid receiver. From 2010-11 he had 130 rec, 1735 yds, and 14 td. No Jerry Rice, obviously, but pretty good. Made one hell of a TD catch against the Giants on Sunday.

Who was also being bottled up by double coverage. Enter Vincent Jackson. Good for you that you could name him off the top of your head, though. And that catch was very nice.

I guess I'd better replace Hernandez on my fantasy team...

Well, to be fair, the only reason I knew of him was because he went to the 'Cuse. :)

This is a perfect fit, BB needed a hybrid TE with a Tat-sleeve on his arm;) K2 fits the mold.

Seriously, I think this move is OK. K2 won't be able to re-produce what A-Hern does, even remotely, but if he can fill in, then at least there won't need to be major changes in the offensive scheme they have been working on all summer.

Stop-gap for now. Hernandez is not on IR, OL will improve (I trust Dante to make it right). The TE position will be a strength again after the Bye week when they will need it the most.
