Since Moss last caught that catch from Brady for his record breaking 23rd TD in a season and Brady also notching his 50th TD pass at that time in January of 2007, Defenses have nearly shut down the pair from any major damage in games dating back 8 games ago when the two have been out there together.

After all those TDs between the two that in the past 8 games, Brady To Moss has only resulted in just 2 TDs and only 461 yards between the pair.

Averaging that out is nearly 0 TDs and only 57.5 yards per game - Thats not even in the same neighborhood as it was for 16 games in 07

I think defenses are taking Moss out of the game and CBs are playing as close up as they can and going the right routes to keep Moss from getting open and teams refuse to make Moss be the reason they get beat.

Of course Brady has missed some good opportunities to improve this average but he has been off target.

I wonder after looking at this if Brady to Moss being lethal is not as worrysome to defenses as it was before although I am sure we could see some TDs bring it back up but those last 8 games shows you it does not take DCs long to figure out and lasso this QB/WR combo and force Brady to look elsewhere and unfortunately for Welker it looks like he is going to have to be the guy to carry the load as the main target this year.

I'm a little bit worried Moss has lost a step, to be honest. He's being pretty solidly covered by cornerbacks who aren't even the team's #1 these days. He was pretty much bullied by Revis and Bailey.

On the other hand, they've had plenty of opportunities this year to score on the long ball and Brady has simply overthrown him. Those incompletions didn't have much to do with opposing defenses. If those passes connect, are we still talking about this?

Make teams worry about the TE more...which may loosen up some safety pressure...and I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night.

Disagree. Yes, the Giants shut him down in the playoffs, but the other playoff games were played in conditions where passing wasn't exactly easy. Short passes and the running game were much more prevalent.
This year, Moss has been open and beating coverage, but Brady has missed him. It's that simple. It's nothing the defense is doing. Despite that, Moss is still a top 10 WR in the NFL.

Moss is fine. Without the option of a down-the field threat, Brady's timing on routes and the running game not scaring anyone, teams are rolling coverage to Randy.

Once those things are recified, Moss will be putting up the numbers.....

If Galloway was producing, it would be taking some of the heat

    off Moss.

When I realized that they only have 2 TDs together in 8 games,I said to myself WOW what a change to what we saw 2 years ago

If Brady could hit the broadside of a barn on a downfield pass and if whoever is calling the plays for the Pats called more downfield passes to Moss, I doubt this would be an issue.

Nobody but Bernard Pollard and Brady himself has shut down Brady to Moss.

Moss gets open as much as ever- Brady just can't hit him deep right now. Moss could lose 2 steps and he'd still be an elite WR, and he hasn't lost one, so I'm really not worried about that.

    No Jersey Selected

Moss has about five TDs this season if Brady doesn't miss him, including one this past week on a long bomb. Defenses haven't shut down Brady to Moss, Brady has.

Practice squadder comments aside, they have been shutting Brady to Moss down one way or another since December 2007. It got tough to break that record down the stretch as I recall. Felger can be a moron but he had a decent theory on why this week. He said teams didn't believe Moss could still run coming into 2007. When it could they started to scramble and look for ways to cover him tighter and pressure Brady to further disable the connection. We've seen both approaches at work in 2008 and again in 2009. Welker picked up most of the slack early on but better defenses have found ways to limit him as well. The inability to field a consistent #3 or utilize the TE's as consistent pass catchers coupled with the inability or unwillingness to find home run openings in the ground game have left this offense somewhat limited and predictable.

It's easy to blame a limited number of miscues or missed throws. But all teams have those in the course of a game and still manage to get guys open more consistently and make plays, including exceptional catches. We simply haven't seen that happen here consistently for a while now. I think BB is starting to accept that, and looking for ways to mitigate it. I think he believed the tail end of 2007 and the playoffs was an anomoly and few teams would be able to replicate what some defenses were able to do to this offense during that stretch. I think he's realizing that more teams have become determined to give it a shot than anticipated.

This is precisely where Galloway was supposed to earn his game check!
He stretches the field with his speed and teams were supposed to have to respect both him and Moss. Moss would have benefited enormously from an even semi productive Joey Galloway. Without another legit deep threat Moss is dealing with a corner and safety.
Another bi product of this is that Welker is going to keep getting hammered as Brady's check down receiver with Moss not open. That spear by Dawkins last week could have easily ended Wes's season. That no penalty was called only confirms by belief that NFL refereeing is arbitrary at best.

Easy for you to say. You're watching the games and youk apparently understand what you are watching! Show some pity on us analysis solely by stats guys. Moss has 1 TD. THerefore he is not getting open.

    Yes, indeed

I've been thinking about this - and the major thing missing from this offense is the long-ball, 20+ yards. I think if we hit one or two more 20+ yard plays a game, were at 4-1 or 5-0 and thinking we're on top of the world.

its a razor thin line between a regular team, and an elite one.

Perhaps because something happened to Brady's knee? He has not had a +40 play this year yet, and you know well that is so uncharacteristic of him.
