Trumaine Johnson, CB, Rams free agent possibility?

I can see him getting paid at least $6-7m

Ryan's replacement is already on the roster
I love Roberts but he's just so unproven at this point and you can never have too much real CB depth. Realistically Johnson might be too expensive though.

IMO Butler needs to get paid before they go shell out money on another CB..

Plus I think i'm fine with

Butler
Brown (if he returns, he said he'd like to come back )
Coleman
Johnson
Roberts
Ryan

If Roberts picks up where he left off he is probably the #2. Coleman with a full off-season program with the team should be better, he could likely ascend to #2 and if not, could cement himself as the #3 which could put Ryan at #4 or #5 on the depth chart depending on if Brown is back and if Johnson with a full off-season gets comfortable in the defense. Hell Ryan could get cut or dealt by the end of training camp.

I don't think we're badly in need of a Ryan upgrade. Ryan was not great but he had some good performances. We didn't lose at the end because our corners weren't good enough.

What am I reading here? We are talking about Logan Ryan right?

Ryan is fine as a CB2. He has always been inconsistent but his peak performances were very good (shut down DT twice...), and people want Roberts and Coleman over Ryan? Roberts was IRed and has shown almost nothing at the NFL level. Yeah, he had a good training camp but that doesn't translate into anything at all. Coleman was our CB4 before Brown went down and was average all season long, Ryan was easily better. Why do people want a Ryan upgrade? Our CBs weren't the reason why we couldn't beat Denver in the Playoffs.

Well take that up with Belichick because Roberts was ahead of Ryan before he got injured.. Started with the other starters week 1 in the preseason. That was pretty much the indication that the #2 CB spot was Roberts to lose.

Coleman was low on the depth chart early because he signed with the team the day before the 1st game so he needed some time to learn the system. But he was better than average and he only had one bad game which was the week after he broke his hand and tried to play through it.

But props to Ryan to holding Thomas to 2 of his 3 worst games of the year... Problem with Ryan is he shuts down Thomas but then gets torched by rookies DaVante Parker and Dorial Green-Beckham..

A 6'2 corner with NFL experience and upside. Yes please!

Like Johnson a lot, and did when he was coming out of Montana, but agree with other posters he'll probably get paid more than the Pats are willing to spend. Butler should be getting money before anyone else in the secondary.

I wouldn't mind bringing in somebody like a Greg Toler, Morris Claiborne or Nolan Carroll as low cost, higher upside guys that could fight it out in training camp.

I don't understand what's going on. This author starts with "hidden gem" and "overlooked," but ends with "so expect Johnson ... to cash in," specifically citing a "Maxwell-like deal," which is $10.5 million a year. The article would have been more accurate (but a lot less interesting) if it had just been about a good player who is about to get paid a lot of money.

Which means he either stays with the Rams (they have a decision both he and Janoris Jenkins are FAs, have to think they'll keep one) or some team that desperately needs a CB (Ravens, Bears, Jags, Lions) overpays..

Logan Ryan isn't the best but I certainly don't think he's a problem that we need to get rid of. He clearly excels in some situations (such as against DT) so I don't see why he wouldn't be retained at least until he hits FA for rotation against certain players.

I don't think anyone wants to get rid of L.Ryan, simply to move him down a spot on the depth chart where a better CB2 starts over him.
