RUMOR: Revis "to hit the market?"

I don't get what the Jets are trying to do this offseason. They didn't spend last..so they have to make stupid moves this offseason?

Other than the fact that they are the jets, I don't see anything wrong with the jets moves so far.

It is very disappointing to read that talks between Revis and Patriots have not yet begun. Here I was thinking that the deal news should hit the wires imminently. I wonder what the Patriots strategy is or for that matter what Revis's strategy is?

Whether he signs with the Jest or not, it's tampering...man, it's so clearly, wretchedly tampering. It is flagrantly violating the rules and causing damage to another team which is exactly why they have those rules in the first place.

You do realize that Revis would have exactly the same information he has now even if Woody had kept his mouth shut, right? Do you for a second honestly believe that Revis's agent (a) wouldn't have been calling the Jets among a whole host of other teams and that (b) any team, if called by Revis's agent, would say "Sorry - we won't talk to you because we're not supposed to".

So sure, absolutely punish Woody because he clearly broke a clear rule. But don't pretend that his statement (and anything they've leaked to Manish) has caused damage to NE because everything said/leaked (and then some) has already been said behind the scenes to Revis's agent and would have been said behind the scenes to Revis's agent even if Woody never said a thing in public or to the press.

If you believe that talks have not begun between the patriots and Revis, I have some leases on Florida land to sell you.

Harris deal for 30+ years old was a head scratcher

15 is guaranteed through the first 2 years..we know that much..and if a LB his age can get that? Suh will get a small country

Just not a smart move

I get it. However, we are scheduled to pay Mayo $13.5M over the next two years which would have been fine had he been healthy.

The jets moves are as stupid as ever.. I like eric decker.. I like brandon marshall.. I even think percy harvin is a good player.. If and only if you have a qb. Its like the delusion seahawks fan who think they are a 1 receiver away from being unbeatable. Expensive flashy Receivers dont mean a thing when you have a qb like geno smith or a qb like wilson that has 12 completions a game. Randy moss was thought to be washed up before he came here. The problem with the jets is they have no idea who they are. Lets spend 27 mil dollars on receivers with a 2 dollar qb. Even if they draft mm he isnt going to be able to step in and utilize those weapon. Typical jets

Interesting to read Patraglia's analysis, along with Jason Cole. According to them, the team isn't even allowed to negotiate with Revis this weekend:

"Revis and his representatives are not technically allowed to negotiate with the Patriots during the three-day so-called “legal tampering” period that begins Saturday at noon since Revis is technically under contract for 2015.

If the Patriots were to decline the option beforehand, making him a free agent, that could change. Players eligible to negotiate with the Patriots during the “legal tampering” window including Devin McCourty, Shane Vereen, Akeem Ayers and Dan Connolly, since they are not under contract for next season."

Why would they not be allowed to negotiate an extension with a player that has a valid contract and is not necessarily hitting FA this year ? Unfortunately, the article doesn't explain the logic behind it. It makes no sense at all to me.

I think Jones could be a great candidate. He's been injured in two of his three seasons so far, so I think his value might be a bit artificially depressed at the moment. If the Pats could lock him up long-term now, they might be able to get a huge discount versus what he'd get if he stays mostly healthy over the next two years.
He is going to want to earn at least what his brother got from the Colts. Similar to McCourry where his brother received a big contract before him.

No other team is a allowed to negotiate with him during that period either.

I think everyone is assuming that the placeholding 2nd year option won't be picked up on a 25m dollar cap hit, which is certainly understandable.

Other reports state that the Jets will give Revis as much money as he wants. No other teams are being mentioned.

The Jets cant control the media, but these reports along with Woody Johnsons comments make it impossible to get a contract done to me. Surely Revis wants to see the Jets numbers if he hasnt seen them already.

Well, yes--that makes total sense. I fully understand that, since he's currently under contract, but was a bit surprised to see the report that the Pats cannot negotiate with Revis in the "legal tampering" period. That would be news to me.

I agree, unless there's some kind of rule that prevents teams from negotiating during the 72 hr "legal tampering" period, which I was not previously aware of.

Let's see if @Miguel can weigh in on his opinion of the Petraglia/Cole article stating that the Pats are not allowed to negotiate with Revis starting tomorrow at noon. It certainly seems odd to me as well, especially since the legal tampering period would not officially be over for 72 hrs, which wouldn't be until 4 hrs prior to the start of free agency. That seems very strange to me, and is either incorrect, or something that I was not previously aware of.

I think that he meant to say that other teams can not negotiate with Revis' agents during the legal tampering period since he is signed with Pats

@MMehtaNYDN: Sources: If Darrelle Revis receives comparable offers on open market ($ about same),he plans to re-sign with Patriots http://t.co/sGZfFxpYrG

On the surface that could be seen as, "obviously/who cares." But atleast we are hos first choice with all else being equal compared to NY. Remember we were option #2 last year to NY.

there's no way this can be true.

If it is, how do the Pats work out a deal with Solder before having to decide whether or not to pick up that option? How do they restructure other players to get under the cap?

How would the Saints do it? If they can't negotiate with their own players over the weekend, they'd have to jettison two-thirds of their team!
