Re: Austin Collie signed

I'm not as surprised as you are about not signing another receiver, at least with Harrison and Sims that are familiar with the system anyway. I did not feel that the odds were too good of bringing in an outsider at this point in time.

Note that Harrison did not take part in training camp, and Sims is at best on the shadow roster (if he's on some other team's PS, I can't find word on it).

Who the hell knows?

Sims is on our practice squad, isn't he? I don't remember hearing differently.

I understand what you're saying, but the point was that at least those 2 would have some (albeit limited) knowledge of the system.

Seems like a perfect opportunity for someone who's photoshop savvy...

Re: Austin Collie signed

Do not like.

The only good thing to be said for this is that Brady, unlike Manning, does not make a habit of hanging his receivers out to dry.

That's the first thing I thought when I heard about the Collie signing and it's very true. Manning kills receivers.

Re: Austin Collie signed

The reason I would have kept a veteran on the 53 is because of days like this.

If you were going to keep a veteran that wouldn't see the field until there were three WR injuries, then you would have had to give up a player who would need fewer than three injuries to see the field.

Yeah, Bequette would have been a huge loss.

That doesn't change that he'd be pressed into playing time with one DE injury, where it takes 3 WR injuries to get the #6 WR on the field.

He's not getting in during the game. He's inactive so often that he's essentially a glorified practice player. They've got those players on the practice squad. You can't hide veterans there.

Re: Austin Collie signed

So what are they bringing him in for....to sell popcorn?....or sausages with onions and PEPPAHS?

I seriously wish the guy hadn't taken so many vicious head shots in such a short amount of time. Kid was a talented receiver...maybe he can help out REALLY short term....and then retire..

Welcome, Austin. Hope he doesn't ever see the field for the Patriots.

Re: Austin Collie signed

Wow, you have your perspective in order.

Our military people are not playing a freakin' game.

No, our military people are doing a job. They weren't drafted, they decided to join to serve, but also for the benefits that go along with that job. What, free college and $35k a year along with a place to stay?

These football players are getting paid more in a year than many of these people who serve us will get paid in their lifetimes. They do it at a risk to their long term health, but unlike soldiers, policemen, firemen, not life and death. They weigh the risks and rewards, love of the game, huge paydays, vs long term health and decide to play.

It isn't for me to sit here and worry about them, they have made their own decision, and I am not their father to worry about them. I will worry about my own sons in the Air Force.

Sciz is 100% correct with this one.
